NEWS FLASH

Arlo JUST ATE FOOD!!!!

he had a stalk of broccoli! he chomped the lot! Grin

(i'll be back to talk about the odd lady later....)

JodeyBogeyPicker · 16/02/2011 19:41

Marking my spot and about to have a little whinge!!!

Harlyn is doing so well with his evening sleeping and his 9am nap but I'm having a mare at the mo with his afternoon nap combined with teething!!! He will only sleep for half an hour meaning he spends most of the afternoon being tired and grumpy and I spend it trying to either get him to sleep or feeding him. And as a result of being tired, he won't take his evening veg only his milk. It seems like he had his colic forever then that just dissapeared at 14 weeks and now we have teething pain and tears. It was lovely when his colic disappeared as it gave us a chance to see his little personality which was so happy and smiley. Now its back to smiling one minute and screaming the next! Sad. I feel so sorry for him. I think if he slept longer of an afternoon it would help him cope with the teething discomfort. Tried everything but i suppose I can't force him to sleep!! So far I've tried the cot, the pushchair, the car seat, out for a walk/drive, not going up to him straight away when he wakes to see if he'll drop back off & putting him in my bed with me. When he wakes, he's wide awake and then half hour later he is yawning his head off!!! I'm thinking maybe I should not try and force anything and should just let this phase pass and hope he'll start sleeping better when he's more active and rolling/crawling around. Any advice???

newmum001 · 16/02/2011 19:53

Jodey have you tried a bouny hair or swing? Grace has both and the swing lost it's appeal a long time ago but the bouncy chair usually works, when grace is over tired i just sit the bouncy chair in front of the settee and bounce with my feet till she goes to sleep, it usally involves her crying for a bit but eventually she falls asleep. Sorry you're having a rough time!

saoirse86 · 16/02/2011 20:02

Sorry you're struggling a bit at the moment Jodey I don't know what to advise. It sounds like you've tried everything that works for Orlaith. She had started sleeping for shorter periods so I started putting her in her cot and shutting the curtains and that helped her sleep a little bit longer. Sorry, I'm no help at all! Confused

frigg are you getting our advice on how to dump someone and then you're going to use it on us after you meet us next week?! Wink

The rolling is already difficult to cope with. This morning I left her on a blanket on the floor while I spent 2 whole minutes putting the washing on. When I came back she'd moved about 6 feet from where I left her and was lying next to the fire (luckily it wasn't on) and was playing with the tv aerial! Shock She's destroyed a paper and moved loads of things around the room and it's only day 5 of rolling back to front!

cinnamongreyhound · 16/02/2011 20:27

Luke has been like that today JodeyBogeyPicker, only little naps instead of his normal 2 longer naps and he's been whingy and clingy. Not sure if he's not slept well because of whatever is making him whingy or if he's whingy because he's not slept well. He sleeps much better in his snowsuit or if he has something next to his face but it worries me and I don't do it often(although dh takes the piss constantly about it!). Ds1 was a cat mapper and it just improved with time, his naps got longer naturally. Not sure of that was just him or of that's what generally happens with babies as Luke has slept well in the day from very early on.

Thank you for all your well wishes, am snuggled under the duvet on the sofa but off to bed soon. Definitely one minded child is off tomorrow and another is going to gp I'm the morning so it might just be me and my boys from 9 until 3. Let's hope ds1 sleeps all night now he's got his antibiotics and Luke is up less too!

FriggFRIGG · 16/02/2011 20:38

Grin i do not envy you saoirse you are going to have a determined toddler on your hands!!!Wink

i promise not do use the dumping tecnique's on you promise ...

okay i feel she's a little odd because...

before we met up today she has cancelled 6 times because something utterly tragic has happened,im really trying to belive she didnt lie about these things because if she did,its beyond awful!

the very first thing she said to me (before hello) was "how old are you?"

everything is someone else's fault/problem,ie: she elected a c-section and then told the doctors "if you want me to have a c-section then you're going to have to knock me out"

she gives out way to much infomation for a first impression,im talking a torrent of information i didnt need to know.

she had 14 cats!!

she kept leaning in to whisper to me,because her neighbour " knows everybody "

she was reported to SS by her foster mother and called her a "fucking bitch" in front of my DD(2.6) and her DS (2.2)

she asked me how much money we had in savings

and,do you ever just get a feeling about someone?

like im normally really trusting,(a bit to much some may sayGrin) but i didnt leave my DC/purse with her alone for a millisecond Confused and when i couldnt find my money (i always loose stuff, you'll see on thursday Grin ) the first thing i thought was that she'd hidden it...i think i might be going mental Confused

im never suspicious, ever,of anyone i get along with most people,if not it's usually because ive said something stupid and offended them!Blush

blimey thats really long ,sorry! Blush

mapletrees · 16/02/2011 20:46

Sorry you're having a tough time jodey. Have you tried having three naps instead of two? Louis rarely sleeps more than 45mins in the day if we're at home, no matter what I do, so I often just try to get him to have a third nap a bit later (out in the pram usually works for us). Maybe you could try putting him down when he starts to get tired, even if it is only half an hour after he gets up..

cinnamon the snowsuit thing works for us too, but I always worry that he'll get too hot.

OOOh away from my computer for a few days and I miss heaps and we have a new thread, I just can't keep up with you guys!!

I am here frigg !!!! I missed you too xxxxx

frigg you need to get one of these, I bought one when Kaesha was about 6 months old, best £25 I spent, is so fabulous:

www.kiddymania.co.uk/rabbits-safety-harness-changing-rabbitts-p-726.html?osCsid=d5d66c5e7f3a0

I also just got Flynn weighed for first time in about 2 months 17lb 7 at 20 weeks!
Boy crying gotta run xxxx

FriggFRIGG · 16/02/2011 21:04

NOW THAT IS CLEVER... Grin

jodey have you tryed a sling? or a swing?

[useless emoticon]

lumpybananapuree · 16/02/2011 21:14

Jodey I second the 3 naps advice. Olly has 3, his last one being around 4-4.30pm he needs it and wakes up himself but as soon as he wakes up he's awful. crying, won't be left, just wants to be held. I've got the sling that always settles in but its a bit different cooking tea with a newborn strapped to you than a 6 month old. He's like it until bedtime!

Friggshe sounds interesting! How have you met her?? If she's not an established friend can't you just let it go???

FriggFRIGG · 16/02/2011 21:24

through TheSiteThatMustNotBeNamed ...can i just not reply to her emails?

MammyG · 16/02/2011 21:28

OOOH shiny new thread!
Frigg Run!Very fast... In the opposite direction!! Shes batty and will only drive you nuts. 14 cats - scary!! That said you could probably have some wicked fun winding her up! (Bold Mammyg..Bold!!) Just keep picturing her trying to be all secret agent spy and whispering while being followed by an army of feline friends!
Jodey ITs in the air! Phoebe napped in short spurts to day too. It didnt affect her going to bed this evening so not going to worry about it yet. Last week I gave her a bit of calpol before her nap to ease the pain and then swaddled her for comfort and that worked. Also these days she prefers her bottles quite warm - verging on hot even?

Phoebe also getting slow on her 11am and 3pm bottles. She was taking some formula at 5pm and then supper but now she puckers her lips firmly until food is offered. ITs so cute! Determined little miss - but the 'ya really its not happening mam' face is just priceless! 'you must be kidding... bring on the sweet stuff now lady' and a big grin once she has her food - then gives out while the spoon is being reloaded!
I have a feeling I have another cute but terribly stubborn one on my hands! More grays and wrinkles so then!

saoirse86 · 16/02/2011 21:31

frigg Serves you right for meeting weirdos off the internet! Grin

Wait a minute, is that us too...? Hmm

She's a nutter, I'd ignore her emails. She hasn't got your number or address has she?

FriggFRIGG · 16/02/2011 21:38

no,no address,no phone number, she knows roughly where i live though....she might stalk me AAHHHHH.

FriggFRIGG · 16/02/2011 21:41

NEVER meet weirdos of 'tinternet...oh damn.

but i know you guys thought,so thats okay..right?! Grin

JessemyParkson · 16/02/2011 22:08

Oh yes, we're all perfectly normal! :o

FriggFRIGG · 16/02/2011 22:11
JodeyBogeyPicker · 16/02/2011 22:31

Thanks for all your advice ladies. I don't have any problems with him falling to sleep, in fact, he doesn't take long to drop off when I initially put him down. The problem is he doesn't sleep for long. We do have a bouncy chair that he'll happily sleep in but it doesn't make him sleep for any longer I'm afraid. Think I'll start scheduling in another nap after his 2:30 bottle and see if that helps.

FriggFRIGG, she sounds like a right freak!!! As for Thursday, safety in numbers! LOL x Wink

FriggFRIGG · 16/02/2011 22:50

go to sleep Arlo...c'mon now!!!

Dixiebell · 17/02/2011 04:47

Jodey, Arlo's naps always seem to last dead on 30mins. It is annoying -I'd love a couple of hours to myself -but he just has more. The other day he had 4 naps throughout day, and sometimes it is a case of putting him down less than an hour after the last nap. He would never make it through the afternoon happily without one either - usually needs a nap until 4.30, and by 5.30 he is tired again. So I would definitely try putting him down more frequently if I were you.

cinnamongreyhound · 17/02/2011 08:24

I had a book when I had ds1 that said that babies have a shorter sleep cycle than adults. They initially have a 30 minute deep sleep, followed by very light sleep which is why when they are small they often wake after 30 minutes as they are not able to settle themselves once they get into that light sleep part of the cycle. This stretches out as they get older to 40 minutes and then an hour but they also learn to re-settle themselves if disturbed during the light sleep part of the cycle. This is often why babies sleep longer on mummies than alone as they aren't as easily disturbed in the light sleep period when snuggled up toasty warm on mummy!

Luke slept 11.30 until 7, yay!!! Feeling much better today but my throat is still soooo painful :(

lumpybananapuree · 17/02/2011 08:51

cinnamon that sound logical. Olly almost always wakes after 30mins but will settle back off. (most of the time)

I'm attepting heels again! I haven't regularly worn heels since i got pregnant with toby. I'm sick of the odd night I do get to go out being spent in agony cos my feet hurt! Wish me luck!

JodeyBogeyPicker · 17/02/2011 13:56

Well so far Harlyn has had 3 naps (2 half hours and 1 ten minute). Fingers crossed the extra little naps will make a difference x

cinnamon that totally makes sense about sleep patterns. Hopefully Harlyn will start sleeping better as he gets older. I'm just thankful that he sleeps 7 till 7 through the night as that's when I get to catch up with jobs/tv and have some me time.

Harlyn 20 wks tomorrow x

patito · 17/02/2011 16:01

Just found new thread, had lost you guys for a while there.

jodey Maia has always slept lightly through the day, until yesterday when I put her down to sleep ontop of sheepskin rug, she had two really long naps and stayed asleep when I put her down at 9 pm. (She usually wakes a couple of times before I eventually join her). Think it could be the warmth, which would fit in with theory from book cinnamon mentions.

frigg no advice on how to do end friendship other than sooner rather than later. Doesnt sound like the type who takes a hint neither.

lumpy good luck with the heels, I cant remember the last time I put on heels.

Im preparing my suitcase for tommorrow. Smile Smile Cant wait!!! Made myself appointment with hairdresser Ive had since I was 16, coffee with friends arranged, tea at aunties sorted, and christams dinner at mi big sisters on Sunday with xmas pud and the lot.

Am off for a Brew with Sams old CM, its nice cause she´s quite a bit older than us but we get on really well and Sam loves to meet up with her again.

JodeyBogeyPicker · 17/02/2011 17:27

Well I have had a lovely day do far! Only one ten minute bout of crying at 4:30 so far. Off for a bath now before bottle & bed (harlyn that is). Thank u all for your advice. He seems souch mire content with the extra naps. He's had four in total and it seems to have done the trick. He's even been puckering his lips together to make a kissing sound! His new trick. Grin
