hello, how is everyone? There's been a few 2y birthdays already havent there?? Saw your pics on facebook queenfee of alfies!
Its Bills tomorrow, we've got him a tory story chunky scooter and a ukulele as he keeps stealing and playing DHs (still cant get used to it being DH and not DP!). I was going to make a cake but im rubbish so ive got my mums partners daughter, who did the cake buffet at our wedding, to make him one of a cows head! She's doing a cooking course and wants to open her own cake shop so she needs the experience of random cakes!
Also not doing a birthday party but a birthday tea for family!
Preschool, funding round here is from 3 years however pre-schools will take them from 2. phoenixOur two are in a private nursery and for Esmes funding you can either take the funding as though child is at pre-school, so only funding during term time, or the other option that we do so our nursery fees are consistant, is that the funding is totaled for the year then divided by 52 so we dont get as much per week but at least the fees doesnt vary from month to month!
ali good luck with the job interview!
2yearcheck has everyones dcs had one? Bill hasnt had anything through?! Not sure if its because they dont do them here, or because as far as i know i havent had a replacement HV since she left when Bill was 6m!
pottytraining is anyone else trying? Bills been using potty at home and is now dry at home (not at night!) and today is the first day of attempting nursery! He managed to stay dry for the 1/2 hour walk and used potty as soon as he got there so fingers crossed for a dry day!
missp i think ive missed whats happened...have you had a fire? i hope you're all ok x x
The world of wool is a somewhat slow at the moment but my mum is going to join my shop selling traditional handmade childrens clothing, which will hopefully see us through the slow periods!
anyway ive waffled on for ages take care and hello to everyone i missed!

Don't talk to me about 2 year checks lol. We got a letter ages ago saying they were coming out to the house on 30th June (last Thursday) between 1.30 and 3pm. It was my day off work so wasn't a problem. Ds1 was off school too cos of the strikes so we went out in the morning and came home to wait for the HV. By 3.30 there was still no sign so I rang them up and they said 'sorry we've sent out a letter with a re scheduled date on.' Grrrrrrrr, I still haven't got that letter. Noah's will now be on July 28th.

I've just got off the phone to our nearest primary school that has a nursery in it to find out what time there sessions are because it isn't in ds1's school and is a bit further away so I knew that if the morning ones are 9am start then there was no way we could be in 2 places at once. The morning ones are 8.45-11.45 so I think i'm going to look at getting him a place there to save me getting more confused about the private nurseries :o. Then once it's time for him to start school he will hopefully get a place in ds1's school. This whole school/nursery thing really does confuse me Confused :o

We don't have 2 yr checks anymore. Its 2 yrs 4 months. Pita if you ask me.

Feeling really sick this time round never really had it this bad and already popping out of my clothes wondering if I will continue this threads liking for twins??!

Told the dcs at the weekend so they have now told just about everyone. Must tell my mother but for some reason i'm dreading it :( 7 +4 now.

lydiathetattooedlady · 05/07/2011 12:43

2 years 4 months seems like a rather random age! Id ring up to inquire but then they might hound me for not seeing one for so long!
phoenix i wasnt even notified that i didnt have a health visitor anymore. I kept trying to ring mine and just got voicemail, it was only at a toddler group someone piped up that she'd left!
Awwwww queenfee are you feeling quite poorly? when i was pregnant with bill i was only about 9 weeks when someone asked how longi had left. i could have cried, we ended up having an early scan just to make sure there was only one and everythign was ok! Can i knit you something!? I love doing teeny baby things! 2 friends have just announced they are also expecting and for some reason its making me go all goooey despite the fact im almost 100% sure i dont want anymore!?

QueenFee · 05/07/2011 19:07

They used to do it at 2 but found that the range in speech etc was still quite big so changed it.
Yes feel pants however this too shall pass!

Phoenix · 05/07/2011 19:54

Scrap my last post, I rang the private nursery and they also do an 8.45-11.45 session and it is a lot nearer to ds1's school so I've put his name down for there. I need to go up tomorrow to fill out an enrolment form and have a look round :o

QF I was much more ill with Becca than with Beth. @They@ say that more times you're PG the more sick you'll be though I' not sure if there's any truth in it. I showed way earlier 2nd time. Think my stomach muscles had given up :s Becca was a much bigger baby at the end but I guess that's for later.

2yr check I wouldn't hold your breath. Round here they sometimes manage it by the time your kid is 2.5 but sometimes not! There's a massive shortage of HV round here.

Right better go, DCs are on the front and becca was eying up the puddles.

alibobble · 07/07/2011 08:22

Misspaella · 13/07/2011 07:10

Congrats Ali!!! What is the role for?

Tantrums Tristan turned 2 on the 4th and he has upped his tantrum factor. He starts a preschool in Oct and hate to admit, I am looking forward to the 2 mornings a week I will get (can't afford anymore mornings) on my own. Is that bad? In fairness, I have had all my children 22-25 months part and craving a break before I think about working part time permanently. The insurance saga isn't helping either.

Holiday where is everyone going this summer? We may take a cheap last min 5 days later in the summer somewhere in the UK (pray for sun!).

Lillabet · 13/07/2011 11:09

Missp I am so glad I am not the only one who has a tantrumming 2 yrd old (although Sam isn't quite there yet - 2 weeks to go!). Everything sets him off: no, get down, you can't drive the car, no you may not eat all the chocolate, no you can't use the computer and so on and so on!! He doesn't speak yet, so I am waiting for the broken food tantrums - apparently quite usual according to several MN threads!Hmm
Sam won't be going to pre-school for another year yet, so I don't get the break, but will do once he's hit threenager-dom! I do however go to our local children's centre twice a week which is great because he tends to behave better around other people, it makes it difficult explaining how naughty he can be - according to everyone else butter wouldn't melt! Hmm It also gets me fit as it is a five mile round trip and I walk it Grin.

Holiday we're looking at going for a week after the schools go back, but we're not sure if we're going to stay in the UK or go abroad. It actually can turn out cheaper going abroad Shock and I would really like a holiday with sun Grin . Mind you last time we went abroad (pre-Sam) we went to Gibralter for a week and it was more like a reasonable summer week in Britain than Gib! I wouldn't mind, but we were told that they had had a heatwave the week before!! Angry Envy.

Misspaella · 14/07/2011 17:29

Lillabet I long for a mid Sept hols. BC (before children) we used to holiday then and BS (before school). Now we are stuck in high season. It is literally half price the week after the children go back to school. Shock

I need some Wine. I have felt really frazzled this week. The children are tired and so am I.

Lillabet · 15/07/2011 10:17

Missp It is a little early but here, have a Wine Wink, you can save it for a little later when the sun is over the yard arm Grin.
To be honest I am dreading having to pay full whack for holidays, and although tempting, I don't think that is justification enough for home edding! Grin

Phoenix · 15/07/2011 18:16

Holidays - there is no way we could ever afford to go on holiday in the school holidays. This year we took ds out of school the week before the May school holidays. Next year we're planning our first abroad holiday with the boys and are looking for mid June, early July.

OP posts:
Misspaella · 16/07/2011 07:29

Phoenix I am with you on that. We would never ever be able to afford to visit family in the States over a summer. The flights for the 5 of us would be about £3-4k!!!!

Lillabet I had my Wine last night. It was needed! This manic weather isn't helping the spirits either. Where is the sun?

alibobble · 17/07/2011 08:37

hi all. Role is a librarian in a private school! :)

hols: We are going in this country. First hols in school hols: Got a cottage in sedberg (or however you spell it) on a working farm in August. We wanted Windermere but it was £1000 for a few days. This farm is in the middle of no-where so is half the price. Self catering so it's easier with the kids and our allergies too. No way I'd pay to go abroad yet wither. Friends at work been to Greece last week and it was 40c+ That's suicide in my opinion! I'm afraid if it's hotter than 25 I start to melt! Hopefully if it rains all week we can see the animals every day and it's only half hour in the car to windermere.

Anyone with under 4's def early sept is a great time to go on hols. We went just after becca was born to a hoseasons place in wales. Was fab and the caravan cost us £300 all in. I looked at he same place for August this year and the same size and facilities of caravan was over a grand! It was worth £300 but def not a grand. Next year I think I'll be tempted to go camping.

I can't believe that Beth has nearly finished her first year at school or that as Becca was born she was just going to start nursery! Seems insane!

miss how's the insurance thing coming? Sounds like you are not having a good time of it. There was a massive fire in our town the other day. Apparently a local tyre place went up and has taken out local cafe and greggs too. Not good. Sign of the times tho, after an hour or so footage was on Youtube dubbed to "Ring of fire!"

Tantrums anyone else trying sticer charts? Becca has seen Beth with one for her whole if so was well pleased with the idea of one. We've got 2 things on it and it's "eating my food" (without a tantrum or throwing it everywhere) and "Sitting nicely in the buggy to school" (without tantruming and Houdini-ing my way out) aided by breadstick bribary. It has made a massive difference. She really likes having a stamper or sticker. I just have to remember to do it straight away like when we get in from school r straight after a meal rather than at the end of the day like beth as it means nothing to her by then obviously. It has certainly helped the meal times. I started with putting her on the step every time she threw anything. She was on there 3x a meal for a while but then when she was good she gt a sticker and now it's pretty much back to how I want meal times to go which is a relief. Just need to remind her how to sleep... molars hurry up!

EEeks what a mammoth post! :)

Hi to all lurkers and the like.

Btw are the wizzard smileys for Harry potter? Not seen any of them though Pete has watched all of them (except the last one so far) - the "henvy" made me laugh as that's how people talk round here anyway! (well my grandma in particular! - it's an 'ospital but you boil a hegg for breakfast!)

JetLi · 18/07/2011 11:01

Sounds a fab job Ali - will it just be term time then - if so it sounds absolutely perfect Envy Grin

Had a wet weekend in Scarborough. Thinking to be honest of having a holiday at home over the summer - purely because we seem to be sinking in jobs here and nothing ever gets done. It will either be that, or back to Scarborough again which I love anyway so no hardship there.

Have to put Hetty in nursery 3 days from September or I will lose my place for February. Am gutted to be honest & finding the money is going to be hard. Stuck between a rock & a hard place, and if I wasn't so happy with the care side of it all, I'd find somewhere new. Gah its a bloody pain. The lead teacher is going on Mat Leave & I can't help feeling this is more to do with her getting everything boxed off & ship-shape before she leaves next month, than there being problems with spaces in Feb. Maybe I'm being harsh. I don't really want her in 3 days whilst I'm off - she is my little buddy - but I can't really justify forking out the cash to have her stay at home, you know? Bugger. Its keeping me awake nights but such is life I suppose.

Hope things are moving MissP with the insurance. Keep buggering on.

Hi Lillabet, Phoenix & the lurkers Smile

alibobble · 18/07/2011 12:54

jetli are there no other places that would be suitable in Feb? Seems sad to worry abouth the money esp if you want her at home.

QueenFee · 18/07/2011 18:32

Jetli hope you can sort something.

Well thats mine broken up for the summer. My mother is supposed to be coming tomorrow but ive fallen out with her recently so not looking forward to it. Hope the weather is ok so we can go to the zoo then I dont have to talk that much!
Holiday club at church next week which will keep them amused then on the sat after were off to keswick camping so thats half the hols gone!

Cerys has a whole new uniform to get as shes off to juniors in september!

Feeling a little less sick. I have my 1st scan next week :)
