Yeah I think it is total overkill too, she's a show off. My brother lives in a council flat and they have nothing. My mum said she was going on and on about this bloody party and it was not nice at all. I will just have to try and do my best at home. FT - any suggestions for a rainbow party? You seem to be the expert!

Dalrymps · 26/09/2010 22:30

Choc - I'm sure the show will go great, try not to stress!

Aw at Dareh wanting a rainbow party, great idea! Hmm how about pin the pot of gold on the rainbow? Pot of 'gold' (chocolate coins). Children to dress multicoloured? You could get a multicoloured disco light thingy? Skittles sweets? That's all I can think of for now..,

Qol - Envy at you going to Florias party, bet it was fantastic!

No luck on the pig, I found it on the American mattel web site but it only ships to USA or Canada Sad, also found it on the kmart site but same shipping situation there too.. There are a few in USA on eBay but they're asking extortionate priced for them.

On a better note we got lotso huggin bear and barbie and ken from the film today Grin

LisaLessLumpy · 26/09/2010 22:33

starting last post first :)

Chocolatestar, why don't you get different colours of crepe paper, cut into strips and put together like a rainbow for streamers, hang on doors, off picture frames?

Plus if you are having a few people round just get multicoloured plates/cups and straws.

fairy cakes with hundreds and thousands on...

Just a couple of ideas to be getting on with :)

Floria Happy Birthday Alex - glad to hear (off facebook) that the party went very well. Not doing much for Ben, just having family round next Sunday lunchtime, with a Fireman Sam cake and red plates and napkins. Toy story theme for toys here too. I have bought Ben the remote control RC, granny has bought him Jesse and he will be getting various other figures from other people :)

Mine Sounds like a horrid week for you and you are not being selfish at all wanting the fella to stay in hospital. Glad your sleep technique worked too :)

QoL Congrats on passing your audition

Dal Hope you find your pig :D

We took the boys to Gullivers kingdom yesterday, Ben loved it, Sam was a little more blase about it all :) Peppa pig was there and Ben got really excited will post pics on facebook tomorrow but when the woman who was there to oversee PP asked him what he thought about PP Ben replied 'it's just him's dressed up' wasn't fooled at all that she wasn't the real thing, don't think the woman was too happy, she went on with a whole story about why PP looked so big etc, but he wasn't buying it :D that's my boy.

Hello to everyone else, better go DH keeps calling down to me asking when I'm going up, hope he doesn't think he's on a promise ;)

Night all :)

Dalrymps · 26/09/2010 22:35

Meant to say chic, don't take any notice of your sil, her party will be no 'better' than yours just cause she's thrown a load of money at it. You're a lovely genuine person and she's, well, not very nice at all and really quite irritating!

OP posts:
Dalrymps · 26/09/2010 22:44

That was meant to say choc, not chic.

Also forgot to say Happy Birthday Alex!

My memory is shocking at the moment, think it's the sleep deprivation Hmm

Hi LLL! toy story theme for you too eh! We got a lot of things in the Argos 3 for 2 deal and went to the new toy store 'Smyths' today, really good and lots of stock!

I hope we get the pig too, it's become a bit of an obsession!

Hello all Grin

Been a long and tiring week for me. Hopefully this one is a little more relaxed.

I worked the first 3 days, then had the last four off (2 of them vacation days). It was tiring. Still trying to adjust to working 10 hour days again. Anyway... Wednesday I had my job interview and I think it went really well. Some of the things I had memorized would not come to me when asked... total brain cramp Confused. Other than that, I think I talked a good game. Turns out I have a pretty good chance this time, since only 3 applied for the 2 positions. Problem is, bothe the other 2 have more seniority than me, so hope that doesnt come into play. Should find out one way or the other today or tomorrow!

So yesterday was my marathon. DH and I were up at 5am to drive into Toronto, find a parking spot and get ourselves to the race venue by 7:30am. It was a nightmare with all the road closures. We were extremely lucky to find parking in this tiny lot, really close to the venue, for a reasonable amount of money. We managed to snag the last spot, but boy was it tight to get into! LOL. The race itself was quite nice, as we were running along the water for a good portion. Not sure whose idea it was to make the finish line at the top of a hill though! Hmm. I have to say it was a tough run for me this time. Not sure why, but I struggled. Anyway... the outcome was good though. We shaved 3 and a half minutes off the time of our last half-marathon, which is huge! I was only 12 seconds over my target goal, so I am quite pleased! Best part, I can hang up my running shoes til the new year as I am officially in retirement!! LOL.

Woke up feeling like a pretzel this morning. I am quite sore. The older DCs have only a half day at school today, so hopefully they are well behaved and I can rest a bit.

So Marco managed to surprise me twice yesterday! Not sure if I had mentioned that a couple times last month I was convinced he was teething because of all the drool and the severe bum rash he had?? Well no teeth appeared and I was left bewildered. He has 3 teeth on top and 3 teeth on the bottom, so I was convinced the others were on their way out to 'balance' his smile! Grin For some reason, DD1 put her fingers in his mouth yesterday, no doubt to try and retrieve something that shouldnt have been in there in the first place, and she discovered he has 3 MOLARS!! Can you imagine??? Sofia didnt get those til after her second birthday!! And she got the worst bum rash when those were coming in too! No wonder he has been able to chomp away happily at anything I give him to eat!! Grin

Second surprise came when we got home from the race. My sister had slept over so that she could stay with the kids til we got back. She slept in the boys' room so she coule keep an eye on Marco. When he woke up, he stood up in his cot and started yelling 'out' at her! Thats his first realy word!! I have never heard him say this! DS1 says he has said it before, but he 'forgot' to tell me about it! Finally!! Words have started!

Anyway... thats quite the long ME post. Will try and catch up a bit later today.

Hope everyone is doing well. xxx

babyblue4 · 27/09/2010 15:15

Dal FOUND THE PIG!!! Message me if you want me to pick it up. ($15 CAN) Cant see it costing too much to send it to you either.

QueenOfLists · 27/09/2010 15:15

Choc - just been browsing old mn threads for ideas for party games and came across this post about a rainbow party - might help:

we went to a party for a 3 year old today which seemed to work really well it started off with craft things (which you could print off the internet really easily .. colouring and sticking/glitter on masks/hats ... then when everyone had arrived they did games around a rainbow theme ... a treasure hunt (really really simple) around the room for different colour semi circles that they had to make up in the correct order to make a rainbow which they then glued together to win a chocolate coin, stick the pot of gold on the rainbow picture (like pin the tail on a donkey), dancing in the middle of the room and running to the coloured picture in each corner of the room when called out (the last one there is out), pass the crock of gold!

babyblue4 · 27/09/2010 15:16

Check toysrus.ca to make sure its the right one.

babyblue4 · 27/09/2010 15:19

here I will pop into the store today to see if there are any there (since the link if for their on-line shop). Let me know!

Dalrymps · 27/09/2010 19:13

WOW BB4! Yes that is the pig!!! I won 2 old ones on eBay (toy story 1) but they're smaller than I want and i just got them in case I couldn't find the proper one... Will just eBay them I think.

If you see it I would really appreciate it if you got it. Thank you so much for checking for me! If you manage to get it let me know and I'll paypal you the money straight away!

OP posts:
Dalrymps · 27/09/2010 19:21

By the way Bb4, well done on your marathon! You're such a busy lady and with 4 lo's too I don't know how to manage everything!

Great that the interview went so well, fingers firmly crossed it's good news for you!

Wow at Marcos surprise teeth and lol at him shouting out! Grin

Hey Qol! [smiles]

Just been browsing the Canadian toys r us website, very exciting! They even had a 'big baby and 'buzz'' double pack (not in stock at the mo), I didn't even know they'd made any toys of big baby!

Honestly, I'm like a big kid lately Grin

OP posts:
QueenOfLists · 27/09/2010 19:38

Lisa - lol at Ben setting the Peppa Pig woman straight - clever boy!

BB4 - glad your interview went well, I hope you get it. Well done with your marathon - very impressive, what a great way to end the season. Not surprised Marco was suffering with molars - ouch! Brilliant that he's got 3 through in one go. And well done at him talking - you won't be able to shut him up now Grin.

babyblue4 · 27/09/2010 20:04

Ok... So Dal I went to the actual Toys R Us store near here and they did not have the pig. A lot of the shelves were empty since I guess they had a sale over the weekend. I was thinking... if you wanted to buy the item online, I will give you my Canadian address to have it shipped to and then I could post it out to you? Would not be a problem.

LisaLessLumpy · 27/09/2010 20:39

babyblue - Well done on your marathon and good luck on the job, my fingers are crossed for you. Regarding Marco's teeth Ben was the same, the molars came through really early I also didn't realise at the time. I only realised whilst playing with him one day when he was laughing. Let's hope he has an easier time with the rest of them :)

Dal- are you sure the toy story toys are for Dylan? ;-)

My sister in law has just rang and she is getting this for Ben, hope he likes it :-)

herjazz · 27/09/2010 21:06

Hello ladies. Ooh haven't shown me face round these parts for a while. But how can I not come back for a natter and the thank you again for my lovely presents. It was such a wonderful surprise. Thanks again so much. Dh can't believe how you can be so kind yet you've never met us.

Congrats on marathon bb4. The thought of makes me wince (after my v ill prepared half marathon effort last year)

Rainbow games - something like a treasure hunt looking for pot of gold and finding end of the rainbow

I want to get dd that rainbow in my room thing. She has the moon thing. That could make nice presie / prop. Sorry can't do links on phone

herjazz · 27/09/2010 21:16

Had to post then cos I couldn't see what I was typing on my phone. It goes over the text box and becomes a blinking cursor.

We are having a shrek and Winnie the pooh themed party for ds. Er music from shrek, various shrek and Winnie the pooh party tat off eBay and a PA from Winnie the pooh - well a local lass who charges 30 odd quid to don a Winnie the pooh suit and come and sing! Oh and sil is making a shrek/ Winnie hybrid cake. Hey it's what the lil man asked for! Tbh am making more effort than normally would to try and counter his feelings of left out guttedness at having a new baby bro. Oh he's been quite unsettled er quite dreadful with it all really. That's a whole other post!

Running out of space again and typing blind so going to go for now. Big love to you all

herjazz · 27/09/2010 21:29

Oh dal we are doing same as you with finding shrek figures on eBay. Does get quite obsessive!

I can't open yr link lll to have a nosey.. Tis rubbish Internet connection on phone

Night all

babyblue4 · 30/09/2010 19:08

Most of you already know from FB, but I GOT THE JOB!!!!! Am so happy and relieved. I can now look forward to working normal hours, and seeing my kids every day, and having weekends and holidays home with them. DH is thrilled. We went out for a nice breakfast yesterday morning to celebrate. Can't be happier. One of the best parts, is that the family of schools I have been assigned to, includes the one my older DCs attend!! DS1 thinks its very cool, so I am happy. Was worried about the whole 'embarrassment factor' since they are at that age where parents aren't really cool! LOL Grin. My only hurdle now, is to get through my 7 night shifts which begin tomorrow night. I am hoping to take the last 2 off so I can give myself a bit of a break between jobs.

Enough about me!

Dal How is the pig-hunt going??? Grin

Birthdays Wow FT! Alex's party sounds incredible! Maybe you should get into party planning!! Havent decided what to do for Sofia yet. At one time she really liked Backyardigans, but she is back to loving Elmo again (that was last years' theme). We are actually combining Sofia and Matteo's birthday (He's on Oct 10 and she on the 25th) with our Thanksgiving Holiday (which falls on the 11th). I usually do a huge turkey dinner with family (we are up to 21 people), so it only makes sense to celebrate the birthdays then. Then I dont have to have another house full of people for each birthday! Anyway... I think I will just take Sofia and a few 'friends' to a softplay on her birthday. October is sooooo busy for us.

Halloween We bought Sofia her costume this week. Its a cute little pink and brown dress with a tiara and a wand. The dress, the tiara and the wand all have cupcakes on them (which is what I call her... my little cupcake). She wanted to be a princess this year - so she is a cupcake princess! She was SOOOO excited when we let her try on the costume and play with the wand (she calls it a buggety-boo after the scene in Cinderella where the fairy god-mother sings "bippity boppety boo" Grin). Marco is going to be a Monkey, and the older DCs have their costumes from last year. We are set! We will be decorating the house for fall this weekend (will post pics on FB).

Anyway... got to run... literally. I volunteered to help coach Matteo's running team at school. How I thought this would be a good idea after running a marathon just 4 days ago, I will never know. My legs were not happy whilst running laps around the school yesterday either!! LOL. Maybe today I will just watch and coach from the sidelines! Grin

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Dalrymps · 30/09/2010 23:39

Fantastic news Bb4!!! Grin so so happy for you! Well done!

Pig hunting going ok lol, the latest development is that a friend of dh's has gone to Disney world on holiday today so he's gonna try and bring one back! This has really reached an obsessive level now HmmGrin

chocolatestar · 01/10/2010 06:25

Lovely ideas for the party thank you! My sil has got me worried about because we just can't afford to do the sort of things she does and she has a wonderful ability to look down on you. Our house is too small for lots of people so just family coming. I am off the week before so think I will try and make a project out of it and get Dareh to make things for it during the week.

Bb4 congratulatons! Great news :)

I am posting on my phone and it is really annoying so will be back once Incan get on a computer!

chocolatestar · 01/10/2010 07:05

Back!

Dalry - I am starting to get obsessed with this pig hunt now! Hope you find it. I am going out to try and get a train for Dareh this weekend. I saw one ages ago at a museum shop that looped up in the sky so hoping to pick that one up as it is roller coasterish!

Not thought about costumes for the 31st yet. He was a bat last year. I think I will just ask him, that's what I did for his party and I would never have come up with his rainbow idea.

Not sure what you mean by the rainbow thing herjazz? Is is a light or something?

Right got to get ready for wor. DH has uni today so that means I have to get DS ready as well as obviously DH can't cope with getting himself ready and DS Hmm

NeedCoffee · 01/10/2010 19:57

Hi everyone, just posting to find you. Life been hectic lately, will try to read through when I get chance :)

QueenOfLists · 03/10/2010 20:22

Herjazz - your party sounds very inventive - you must post a photo of the Shrek/Winnie cake!

BB4 - congrats on the job, you must be so thrilled, that's wonderful Grin! Hope the last few nights aren't too bad for you and that you've managed to arrange the last ones off. Halloween sounds like fun - we've never really celebrated it - usually do bonfire night instead. I did get out the dress Anya wore last year for a Halloween fancy dress party though, just on the offchance that it still fits - she refused to go near it today because it's got a spider on it.

Dal - hope you get your pig!

Choc - did you manage to get the train?

NC - hi, hope all ok with you.

I've had a lovely weekend. I went to a charity lunch for St Ann's Hospice on Friday - my work had booked a table - which went on all afternoon with a fashion show. Then yesterday (my birthday) I went out for two meals - lunch with some girlfriends while ex-h had Anya, then my parents took Anya and me out in the evening to a local pub that does very nice food. Anya sang 'happy birthday' to me lots of times, and announced in the evening "I've had a lovely time" Grin. Nice presents too - including a cordless power drill/screwdriver from my dad Hmm (bless him!), as ex-h has got our old one and I'm now doing my own diy. Plus, on Friday evening my plumber came round, fixed a radiator and a leak in the loft and didn't charge me at all Grin. Happy days!
