Good work IC!

bearcrumble · 05/08/2010 18:26

Hello, hello, hello - thanks for the shiny new thread IC.

I totally agree that me-me-me posts are fine and dandy. We should be allowed to whinge (and also share proud moments) without feeling embarrassed.

Dr CC well done to your husband. I'm very impressed.

Bethylou Have a great christening. It sounds like it will be fun - ignore family. Sorry that sleep is bad at the moment.

mamaloco What is DD1's disease (if you don't mind me asking)? I'm sorry that it looks like DD2 has the same thing.

BG I love the list. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Rainbowweaver Hugs are always welcome and reciprocated.

Chinook Glad you had a good time in Wales. Yes, do post a pic of DS. I only have a BA (and a 2:2 at that) as well.

watercress I like the rules.

bearcrumble · 05/08/2010 18:32

My news is that we went to stay with friends in Hereford for a couple of nights and stopped at Bicester to do a bit of shopping on the way back (got a gorgeous coat half price for him for winter 2011-12 and put it away - I hope the moths don't get it).

Getting him off to sleep is a real chore. Normally a couple of hours and by then I'm so tired I want bed myself. Need to work out how to get him to sleep without feeding him to sleep.

I don't know what I'm going to do with myself for work when I return. I worked doing clerical type stuff in the NHS for most of my 20s and then did my degree (social policy) when I was mid-20s then 29-36 worked for ITV doing compliance (watching shows and making sure they comply with the Ofcom code and writing defences to Ofcom) then I quit to do Nursing and did a term then took maternity leave but I'm not going back.

I don't mind doing any old thing part time for a couple of years (was thinking 2 or 3 days a week once he's 2) then when he starts school full time would like to be self employed but don't know what. Do you think there'd be milage in training as a masseuse and specialising in pregnancy massage - get one of those tables which has a hole for the bump and visit people at home or do it in my own home? I Live SE London. It's the only thing I can think of currently that I'd quite like to do and wouldn't take a million years to train as.

mamaloco · 05/08/2010 19:10

I was thinking the same has you BC massaging or hairdresser, you should have seen the look on my not so D H. That can be move to any country as well.
He is off again socialising! came home at 2 am yesterday forgotten his keys of cource! then proceed to snore his head of which woke DD2 at 3 am... I had trouble to wake him up to make it on time to DD1 medical swab this morning i am slightly in a zen kind of way...

DD1 has a tonsillitis and an allergy to the antibiotics according to the doc, DD2 as food allergy and teething . I suspect that DD1 has had a childhood disease (measle is a close contendent, but she would be atypic as she is vaccinated) and pass it on to DD2. which makes much more sense as the rashes looks exactely the same.

stoofadoof · 05/08/2010 20:04

ace IC thanks? am in awe of BC and others capacity to remember everyones crack and respond individually - just how DO you manage that?!?! i may resort to a pen and paper at the side of me whilst reading!!

IC we still have a monitor for DD (will be 4 in nov) and another one for DS (though he is still in with us at the mo - we have it downstairs when he's upstairs)? i found i slept much better when i knew i would definitely hear them? guess we'll draw the line somewhere, but not yet!

speaking of monitors, gtg, DD not asleep yet, and there has just been a loud thump (didn't need the monitor for that!!!)

AbsB · 05/08/2010 20:54

IC I'm with you on the sleep thing... although we seem to be getting worse and worse here. I thought our day naps were sorted but she has resorted to doing two twenty minute naps in the morning/lunchtime and waking every two to three hours in the night! Why! Aaagh! I feel about as tired as I did right at the beginning! I am just knackered, so much so that I walked into a bucket full of water which I'd left outside the bathroom the night before... I now have a huge bruise on my ankle, I look like a wreck and feel about 113 years old! My DP pointed out today that as DD gets older and more beautiful, it will make me look older and older! Thanks DP!

Mamaloco I totally empathise with you regarding your DH coming home late and snoring! Mine doesn't go out late but he does snore! And last night he woke both DD and I at 3! I managed to soothe her back to sleep until her feed at 4! And to be fair, at 6.30 I announced that he was taking over after her morning feed, and he was brilliant... he took her out with the dogs, got her to sleep in the pram and let me sleep til 10.30 so the snoring episode was forgiven!!!

BC I wish I'd had a massage during pregnancy, I think it would have really helped my HUGE swollen ankles and club feet! Speaking of pregnancy, I saw a pregnant woman walking down the street today, she looked so serene and glowing, and I remembered feeling like that...

Well, I think that qualifies as a "ME" post.

chinook · 05/08/2010 20:56

bg thanks for the link. It looks like quite a useful thing. I am off to spend some of dp's money!

Here are my two random thoughts for today:

  1. Why do babies have jagged edges on their finger nails which are not visible to the naked eye, but which feel like needles scratching on your boob?
  1. I never realised that my ability to successfully parent a baby would be influenced so much by my ability to do up poppers on clothes and babygrows in difficult circumstances. ie. In the dark, when a baby is screaming, wriggling, rolling over etc....!
bearcrumble · 05/08/2010 21:03

Oh isn't it disheartening when you think you've only got one popper to go and you realise you've missed an early one out so have to go back and do it all again.

bearcrumble · 05/08/2010 21:04

I mean put them to un-matching poppers early on. Im not being very clear but I'm sure you know what I mean.

BabyGiraffes · 05/08/2010 21:47

my dh cannot do poppers... They completely confuse him. I think it's a male thing.
On my not very fancy phone so need to keep it short. Tnnks ic for new thread. Mamaloco hope your little ones get better quickly. Def sounds like viral rash.
Hugs to all

bethylou · 05/08/2010 22:24

Great new thread and thanks for all the hugs. Great day today doing some gardening while DS went to the minder. DH went to play football this evening while I took both boys to see our 'baby chiropractor' (with my mum for riot control for DS1!) Got back, made tea and managed to get DS1 and 2 into bed and asleep only half an hour late. Then even cooked DH's tea and listened to a recount of his 4 goals!! Tonight, and for one night only, I am an uber-wife!!

I have established that I can write a response to people in the box below and then, if it's on more than one page, copy and paste it onto the last page before clicking 'post'. Most of you have probably been doing this for months (have already established I am a dunce after all ) and half the time I forget to read the last page!! However, it works well when I remember!!

Hope your daughters are better soon Mamaloco. BG like the idea of getting a borther to pay. Neither of mine are even coming so I'm guessing this is unlikely!! Watercress with you on toddler whinges. DS1 has developed a fine line in the very real toddler tantrum in the last few days. The neighbours must love us!

Must now go to bed in the hope of grabbing an hour or two before DS2 starts waking us up again! Hugs to all.

raindroprhyme · 05/08/2010 23:10

marking my place, really need to contribute more.
DH keeps saying he is going to design Dad friendly baby cothes with numbered or colour coded poppers and huge buttons

ClimberChick · 06/08/2010 05:02

just marking my place

why don't they colour code poppers? Gets DH every time

love the term floor swimming IC thats exactly what it is.

watercress · 06/08/2010 10:43

Ooh, aren't we busy on our shiny new thread?!

I also lack the ability to remember what everyone has said, and the technical knowhow to do any copying and pasting. I am a dunce.

Sorry to all of you suffering at night (and hence during the day). I'm really lucky in that both my DDs have always been good at going to sleep (at night, during the day is a different matter), and go to bed really happily and are asleep in a couple of minutes. I am also lucky with the whole sleeping through the night thing as DD1 does 11.5 hours straight and DD2 about 13 hours. We have a monitor for DD2 but not DD1 (we figure we can hear anything catastrophic through the one monitor, or DD1 will come to the top of the stairs and call us if she needs us). We only use it when they are upstairs and we are downstairs - once we go to bed, we don't bother as they are on the asme floor as us.

Someone asked what writing I do. It's nothing creative or exciting - I write about health and medicines (continuing education stuff), and also write and edit training materials for pharmacists and pharmacy staff. I kind of fell into it, but it lends itself well to family life as I can do three days a week and can do some work from home. My boss is lovely and says that he doesn't care when or where I do the work, as long as I do it!

I wonder if pregnancy massage would be too specialised a career? How about massage with a specialism in pregnant women?

Got to go, DD1's "doctoring" of DD2 is looking slightly out of control (though DD2 is laughing hysterically)...

rainbowweaver · 06/08/2010 12:09

marking my place too.

watercress do both your DDs share a room?

AbsB · 06/08/2010 14:16

watercress WOW! Please share your sleep secret with us... how old are your DCs? FF or BF? HOW???? DD2 13 hours?? AMAZING! Grin

Had another night of 7pm, 10pm, 2am, 5am and up at 6... although the 5am wakeup felt like nothing more than habit as she fed for five minutes and went back to sleep.....

Very very Envy !

GuernseyFrench · 06/08/2010 15:09

I have posted for a week and you've been busy!!

Been to England for 3 days this week, just DH and I. My mum was over and looked after DS during that time. I was nice to have time by ourselves but odd not to have him with us. We really missed him!

Can't remember what everybody said so:

Yes to the rules - let's do self centred post and hugs

No big diploma here, just a baccalaureat (French A level) and a 3 years course in tourism. I now work from the States of Guernsey... that's a change of carreer

6 months here too.

We now are on ready brek in the morning instead of baby cereals (far less expensive!). Weaning is doing fine, I'm going to introduce dairy products starting with plain yogurt and see where we go from here.

We went to the HV this morning. DS is now 7kg68 (16lb15) and measures 66cm. I sometimes wonder where the off button is as he is sooo full of energy.

Good luck for the christening. DS's one will be in May 2011. Took us a while to decide the godparents (this caused lots of griefs in DH's family) and we went them to have the time to save money for the trip / accommodation.

DS now rolls from back to front and nearly seat unhelped, but from seated he dive onto his front... Quite impressive.

GuernseyFrench · 06/08/2010 15:12

Oh forget to say...

I'm also careful with the food I give DS as we have eczema in the family and he has a slight asthma (not diagnostic yet but my mum and I are and the ventolin prescribed by the gp do relief his breathing).

I still haven't heard back from the gp regarding the xray... it's been 9 days now... I'm so crossed Angry

GuernseyFrench · 06/08/2010 15:26

And forgot again...

Here are the pictures of my homemade mei tei...

bearcrumble · 06/08/2010 17:03

Aww GF He's so cute and the mei tei is fab.

Watercress Good point, yes I think I'd train in general massage and specialise but do normal ones too.

mamaloco how funny you had the same idea! Hope the girls recover soon. I think you're probably right re virus rather than two different things causing same rash.

Bethylou Glad you had a better and extremeley well organised day.

Sleep's been a bit better the last couple of days and today he's had two good long naps. In fact I think I'm going to go and wake him up shortly if he doesn't wake by himself in the next 10 mins.

My period still hadn't returned, but I am still exclusively breastfeeding but a lot of people I know have got theirs anyway even if they're still BFing. Anyone else still not got theirs.

I think I'm going to leave the weaning to 26 weeks if he keeps up the ok sleeping - it's only another week. By ok I mean he went down pretty quickly and woke up 3 or 4 times before 7 am but went back to sleep fairly quickly. Still not great.

SunnyBumpIsNowSunnyMummy · 06/08/2010 17:08

Hiya :)

Hugs to all, can't keep up. Here's what's happening with us!

Nursing baby is distracted by screen and keyboard so PC time is much reduced.

Swimming is much better than baths but the getting dressed bit is equally bad.

6 months old tomorrow, gonna try some veg!

Sleep is intermittent. It ranges from 2 to 5 wakenings and feedings at night. My milk supply is often all over the place and sometimes I wake up in a milky puddle.

Have a good weekend [hugs]

GuernseyFrench · 06/08/2010 17:54

I really need a new brain....

Here are the working page and another one

BabyGiraffes · 06/08/2010 19:38

Boo one of my posts vanished - just wanted to say I love the way babies laugh with their mouth very wide open. Only a baby can pull that off! (I tried in the mirror and it looks daft rather than cuteGrin

stoofadoof · 06/08/2010 20:09

BC no period here yet either, and i stopped BF 4 weeks ago now, or maybe 5, i've lost track!

stoofadoof · 06/08/2010 20:12

oh yeah, and i didn't get an interview for the job i didn't really want? not a great surprise, as i wasn't an exact match for hte person spec? the company i'm on temp contract with tho have asked if i'll stay til christmas covering another post, so that's something at least! my earnings now cover the rent and the groceries shop? only digging into savings to pay the other bills ? DH doing ace job as SAHD, but deffo ready for me finishing work on friday afternoon!!!! i love my weekends, barely let go of DD and DS Grin
