Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
fiziwizzle · 19/08/2010 14:26

Here too! Hurrah Grin she ate something!! Thanks mamaloco

fiziwizzle · 19/08/2010 14:26

Now will someone tell me why she won't stop grizzling, it is driving me mad.

mamaloco · 19/08/2010 14:53

You're welcome!
fizzy I let DD2 cried back to sleep at 3 am last night, it lasted aaaages almost couldn't do it (about 5 min Hmm). 5 whinges during the night too. DH has been bugging me to let her cry for a while now... [not sure which emoticon to use] Now I feel really bad because the 4th teeth has come through. Sad
May be she is on her way to more/some teeth too?

ClimberChick · 19/08/2010 18:35

LO was a feeding machine last nite with feeds at 6pm, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12:30am, 2:30, 4:30, 5:00, 6:30 (got DH to give 3oz while I slept) and 08:00. I think that's her record. Surprisingly not feeling to bad, though the work day has only just begun.

Tonight we're going to pack for our trip to San Francisco at the weekend. Hopefully I'll be able to see some of it, and not just just sitting at various park benches feeding herSmile

chinook · 19/08/2010 19:42

Hello everyone. Thank you so much for the good wishes for my mum. She is home now and doing much better. She had just been on holiday and the doctors think sitting for extended periods on coaches and aircraft caused a blood clot.

It has been great catching up with everyone's news and I can agree with most things. Sore boobs - yes. Ds is kneading them as he feeds and I can't get his nails short enough so they don't scratch me as he is doing it. Annoyed with dp. Oh yes. Came home to a messy house even though he was here alone for 6 days. Grrrrr..... Growth spurt - yes. Ds' sleep had begun to improve but the last week he has been feeding at least 2 hourly during the day, and last night was almost identical to yours cc.

I thought weaning was going well until I read how much some of your dc's are having! I think I am on my own on here with the BLW, but ds is having a nibble on a few things if he fancies it and we are eating. I think BLW is a much slower process and I won't get him into the whole 3 meals a day regime for a while yet. He seems to be a carb junkie like his mummy though, and can wolf down a finger of toast in a couple of minutes.

Need to go now to shoo away a group of chickens who are being noisy underneath our bedroom window. Dp gets these mad passions for things and chickens are his latest one. Slightly cheaper than his last one which was kite surfing! I agreed to have 4 female chickens about 2 years ago, and we now have 22 at the last count, including 4 very vocal cockerels. I honestly can't believe the neighbours haven't got a petition up about the noise. Particularly when you factor in a baby and a 4 year old!

Have a great time in San Fran cc, I am very, very envious.

GuernseyFrench · 19/08/2010 20:15

22 chickens!! Shock

Teething is really here at the moment with DS having very rosy cheecks, a nappy rash, a bit of temperature, and the will to chew on every thing he can put his hands on. Sophie la Girafe is very handy for that. I hope the tooth is close to come in order to give him a rest. mamaloco 4 teeth already!

BabyGiraffes · 19/08/2010 21:17

dd2 had her first taste of Balti tonight. I was busy telling dd1 off for something and only noticed dd2 on my lap had stuck her hand into my curry and then in her mouth when she started crying... She didn't much fancy it because it was hot-hot and hot-spicy...

ClimberChick · 19/08/2010 22:04

chinook great news about your mum, not so great news about the chickens and sore boobs.

mamaloco · 20/08/2010 07:19

Grin at sophie la girafe! My cousin, 1st of us 4, had it.
Shock at the chicken too, I thought you could have only one cockerel or they beat the c... out of each other. If I were your neighbourg I would have made some kind of poule au pot by now! Grin
chinook good news!

mamaloco · 20/08/2010 12:52

Has anyone moved their LO out of their bedroom yet?

I moved out of DD1 bedroom when she was 10 weeks as she was already sleeping through for a few weeks Blush.
She was a very noisy sleeper too, so disturbed us a lot! Grin
DH is getting insistant that we remove DD2 now, but she is still waking up at least 2 or 3 times a night (often more), and I don't really want to potter at night in another room. He says that we won't hear her and she will learn to self settle more quickly. Confused

chinook DD2 is already the size of a 1 year old so she eats accordingly too, you really can't compare children. I tried finger food (BLW) she still eats a lot but bite of huge pieces that she swallow whole (and choke on sometimes). She loves her food and complain if her sister or us is having anything with a fork or spoon without her having a go, but she won't eat with a spoon herself. (so she is BLW too, she has what she wants)

GuernseyFrench · 20/08/2010 17:04

mamaloco DS has never slept in our room. He's been in his own room and cot since we came out of hospital (he was 5 days old). And he has never slept through!!

I'm trying a bit of BLW but DS most of the time looks at the food and wonder what to do with it, except last Sunday when he grabbed one of my Quavers and happily suck and munch it Grin

BG I hope your DD2 got over the curry night!

BabyGiraffes · 20/08/2010 20:02

Love Sofie la girafe Smile but try to keep the girls away from anyting made of rubber (dh is allergic to latex). My two love their assorted doudou Also very chewable and wash well, and they are hand puppets. dds have about three each so they get washed often.

BabyGiraffes · 20/08/2010 20:04

mamaloco great tip on the spoon feeding!! My dd1 was also so greedy that she would have happily eaten straight from the bowl without making a mess! dd2 a bit more discerning and I will load her spoon less if I remember...

GuernseyFrench · 20/08/2010 20:48

BG I'm trying to get him to use a doudou as a soother but it'll take some convincing.

I just read the baby whisperer interview and may give a go to the put up put down method as the attitude really looks like DS's.

Must go as he's whinging

bearcrumble · 21/08/2010 10:26

Chinook Glad your mum is feeling better. I'm not doing entirely BLW because I spoon feed DS baby cereal mixed with expressed milk but we've sort of fallen into a pattern where he starts with BLW style finger food, then has 40 ml of expressed milk with his iron medicine in a bottle and then a small amount of cereal.

This is twice a day - morning we have just fruit and a finger of bread maybe and evening veg then fruit then bottle then cereal.

Yesterday's dinner was broccoli and cauliflower florets with the stalks left long (he actually seemed to prefer broccoli stalk to the tops) followed by a whole fig (gummed out the middle) and a couple of fingers of mango with the skin left on so it stayed together while he gummed the flesh.

It is really messy. We're on 2 baths a day now because there's no other way to get all the stuff off him. He gets this real look of concentration on his face while he's eating - it is very cute.

Dr CC Have a fantastic time in SF.

GF We have a sophie too. It is really good.

BG Balti! Haha - but was it shop bought or homemade??? Grin

mamaloco Sorry that you and DH are not in agreement re rooms. Could you and DD2 try sleeping together in a different room from him for a little while as a kind of transition into her having her own room?

Yesterday I bravely ventured out of my local area Grin and got the train up to London Bridge and went to Borough Market. DS slept through all of what I was hoping was going to be a fun experience for him. He did wake up for me to show him the river thames and the Golden Hind (huge old fashioned boat) - which he grinned and grinned at.

He's been sleeping a bit better since we started food. In retrospect I think he was probably ready a couple of weeks before he turned 6 months but there's no harm done. He has had a lovely nap this morning from 9.10 and it is now 10.25 and he's still asleep. He has obligingly given me enough time to clean the kitchen of the breakfast mess, wash up and hang out a load of washing. The postman knocked on the door and even that didn't wake him.

watercress · 21/08/2010 10:44

DD2 only lasted three weeks in our room. As soon as my milk dried up and she went onto bottles, there seemed no point in having in with us and we moved her into her own room.

Top tip for naps: put the radio on. I've done this with both my DDs as it means that any other noise blends into the background, and they don't wake up if the doorbell or phone goes, or I drop something! It's also a good way of distinguishing day from night.

Chinook, glad your mum is OK.

DrCC, enjoy San Fran, you lucky lady! One of my favourite places in the world.

chinook · 21/08/2010 19:02

GF snap I read that sleep interview too. We must have been reading the same thread with a link to it. I am starting pick up/put down in a minute. I think.....!

mamaloco you are right about cockerels fighting. We have to keep them all separate and my once fairly decently sized garden, is now a mass of chicken runs. It's a good job I am quite fond of dp on the whole, or I would have run off ages ago!

bc your blw sounds very similar to ours. He will let me spoon in a bit of yoghurt though he prefers to try to do it himself. He had a go go at butternut squash chunks (roasted) and a banana tonight, plus a bit of breadstick and cheese straw I made yesterday. (Had to mention that as I am so chuffed I managed to make them).

ds has found a new toy today. It is one that he will take with him wherever he goes and will be the focus of his attention for a big part of his life..ahem....Grin. Who knew they started so young?!

BabyGiraffes · 21/08/2010 19:43

Grin at chinooks ds. Just not the same having girls...

dd2 now happily chews her way through most soft/cooked fruit and veg and loves bread/toast. I do have to intervene occasionally like yesterday when I pulled a large piece of soggy bagel out of her mouth because I could see no way she could chew or swallow it properly. She was not amused I took it off her!

Have decided that two beautiful girls are quite enough and won't be nagging dh for a third dc Sad. In a way I am more than grateful to have my two because I've been pregnant 9+ times and it took me 8 years to have dd1. Not very good at staying pregnant... Confused

Dd2 managed to poo straight onto my light jeans this evening past her nappy Shock. Different nappies really suit different bottoms. I found pampers work without fail whereas huggies leak all over the place with my two. Some of my friends swear by huggies... Briefly considered washable nappies for dd1 but chickened out because we have no tumble drier and she was very prolific and on the liquid side Confused... With dd2 I never considered it at all because we still have no tumble drier and I am drowing in washing at the best of times without having to think of nappies, too. Poor excuse, I know, but there you go.

GuernseyFrench · 21/08/2010 19:46

chinook good luck with pupd. I haven't started yet.For sure that we read the same thread in sleep.

DS found his toy a few weeks ago, but he's not that bother now, which is great as it avoids hands in pooey nappies! Grin

BabyGiraffes · 21/08/2010 19:52

bear balti was seeds of change organic from a jar... Grin

GuernseyFrench · 21/08/2010 19:54

X post wth BG.

DS had today in addition to his three meals, some bread, a bite of goat cheese and some chocolate tart plus some papaya this evening. Like your DD2, he doesn't like me taking food off his hand or mouth!

I use reusable nappies which thanks to microfibre dry very quickly. I've never put them in the thumble dryer. But if I need to use disposable, I go for Huggies as since they've changed Pamper, they are not absorbent enough especially at night so I agree the nappies depend on the bottom! Wink

I'd like a second DC, DH kind of agree but financially it will be tricky. Plus we'll need to rethink our house (ie. move the study in the landing and build a porch to shelter the stuff of the landing).

bethylou · 21/08/2010 21:38

Not really keeping up at the mo as DS1 is ill again and DH and I also have temps and colds but not really ill.

DS2 now eating a good three cubes at each meal and enjoying banana and rice cakes as finger food (with help as he's not very co-ordinated yet). Vomit does seem to be decreasing finally, which is great for reducing the washing. Carpet now has orange splats on though!!

Baby Whisperer's PUPD didn't work well for us with DS1 as he got cross, but it worked for DS2 when he wouldn't settle for DH. I had to sit next to them and do it until he realised that DH was nice after all! Now means I can go out in the evening before he is asleep.

Anyone else feel like they are feeding non-stop at the mo? Milk, feed, milk, feed, milk, feed, milk... DH is complaining that we don't have time to do anything else (as well as administer 21 sets of meds!) and I've tried to point out that a) it eases in the end when they are quicker at eating and b) I do it 7 days a week not just 2!!

I am doing the Pantley pull off with the dummy at the mo and I think it's working here. Dummy becoming much less of an issue, but does take some resolve in the middle of the night. Have ended up wth three delightful fluffy blanket things to replace the dummy and all he wants is a muslin - I think due to being with one constantly due to the vomit! I do like 'Taggi' blankets though and both DSs have one and quite like them.

CC Haven't been to the doc yet - may take months I think! Too busy taking DSs to take myself!!

Chinook glad your mum is on the mend. Chickens sound mad. DH is also one for fads (climbing, archery..), but luckily has not reached chickens yet!!

Enjoy Sunday. DH is keen for us to relax. Think this technically means relaxing while I do childcare and jobs (as relaxing with two DCs just doesn't really seem to figure, unless I'm just making heavy weather of all this!! Fun yes, relaxing, no!!)

rainbowweaver · 21/08/2010 22:06

bethylou oh yes re the Milk, feed, milk, feed, milk, feed, milk... especially before I went back to work. Though now that DD has decided she's not having much milk during the day during weekdays that's slightly different as she feeds at night. weekends are still the same however. I just keep thinking that this will pass in a few months! Don't know how you mange to fit in the 21 sets of meds in between.... Grin

mamaloco wanted to thank you for the under loaded spoon tip! Works for us too.

For anyone trying protein... DD loves tofu mixed with one of the ella's organics purees.

BabyGiraffes · 21/08/2010 22:23

How many milk feeds and other feeds do you give? dd2 only has three meals a day and three bottles of milk of 7 or 8oz (morning, afternoon, evening).. Certainly does not feel like I am feeding all the time esp as the meals fit in with ours except dinner which she has an hour earlier than ours at the moment because she gets too tired otherwise.

GuernseyFrench · 22/08/2010 06:42

Same here BG DS has 3 meals and if at nursery 3 bottles (breakfast, lunch and 3.30pm) and if at home 3 but the last one is at 7.30 pm as he doesn't take one at lunchtime. I think nursery portions are less than mine. This give us plenty of time between feeds.

Another early rise today DS is now waking up at 5.30 ready to go! I don't really like that

bethylou sorry to hear you're poorly again but good news with the reflux

Have a good Sunday. Must go and change his nappy
