Cheers for that, GF!

kellymom has a section about weaning too - as you might expect, they're more in favour of BLW (weaning OFF breast-milk as opposed to the real-food-only school of thought-type weaning) than mother-lead weaning and say ideally the baby will wean themselves off breast milk at some point after their first year. I'm in no particular hurry to wean DD, so for now I'm content to keep offering her BM and letting her decide whether she wants it or not.

So - a week on, are your LOs on GMT now? Although my DD's wake-for-the-day time varies, it's usually after 06.00 (in fact, after 07.00 the last few days) so I guess we're there. GF, your DS was waking at the 05.30 mark BST as well, wasn't he?

And what's the latest nap situation now?

DD seems to have dropped a nap and is going about 3 hours and more between daysleeps - although it's possible that's to do with the 9moSR and may not be a permanent change.

Having said that, she's not acting especially tired, or indeed overtired between times, so I guess she's getting enough sleep. Both naps are in the pram as we're in the position to be able to do it that way, the weather's mostly okay still and the cot-naps are hardly worth the bother. As long as DD gets 2 hours total during the day, that seems to be enough, although she does manage on less if she needs to. She's getting between 10 and 11 hours overnight - less than some, but in the normal range I think.

bc, how are you doing?

Likewise CC? I'm not surprised you get fed up of all the pumping - I used to find it a really dreary job and am full of admiration that' you're still doing it.

hello!

completely arsed the interview up (dunno why, but it was a shocker!) didn't get the job, though did come '3rd out of 64' hmmmm?.

back to the drawing board again?

i've not been ignoring questions about boils - just forgot to answer!! (thanks for the interest!) i had 6 courses of anti-biotics over 7 weeks and then had a week free of boils before they started coming back again? currently have just two which is entirely manageable as far as i'm concerned, and isn't interfering with me walking etc, so whilst i still have them, i'm a lot better than i was!!! (the final course of A-B's left me with thrush too? hardly surprising really, given the duration!)

am home alone this weekend with dh in that london for a wedding (just spoken to him, the do is on the thames opposite the times building - bride glowing, 250 guests, sounds lovely!)

i've just had a midnight feast with DD watching the council fire show out of our bedroom window, and am now listening to both DC's snoring gently over the monitors? hoping this continues all night!!!!!

hope all's well for everyone? and belated happy diwali WCRESS

stoofadoof · 06/11/2010 20:54

sorry, caps in all the wrong places there! Happy Diwali wcress

bethylou · 06/11/2010 21:30

Big hugs to BC - and I echo what the others have already said. We had a bad night last night too due to DS2 teething. Threatening to batter DH when he sleep talks/walks has actually worked (although I'm not sure it's a scientific solution!!) and he hasn't done it since!

Commiserations to Stoof re the job and boils (I've had loads of Abs in recent months too-they really are a double-edged sword).

Loving the cob on back Watercress and happy Divali. Here I've been watching fireworks and lanterns across Leamington and Warwick whilst washing up in the daark - not sure it's a particularly good strategy for washing up, but it made it much more enjoyable. I took DS1 to the local fireworks yesterday and it was fab to give him a big mummy cuddle whilst sharing my favourite night of the year with my biggest boy. Grin and a big love surge...

Meanwhile, DS2 has started climbing today -crap!! This could take head injuries to a whole new level!!

IC My two stopped BF themselves suddenly due to the reflux, so can't really give any useful info I'm afraid (though feel for CC as I expressed for a month for DS1 once he'd stopped. I used to read a magazine to take my mind off it - I guess you do that?)

Now on two naps here: 30-60 mins in the a.m (three hours after waking) and then 2 hours after lunch (at same time as DS1 Grin). He goes straight to sleep at about 7:15p.m. but needs resettling in the night (usually only a couple of mins, but sometimes several times). He wakes between 6-7a.m but DH is up for work at 6a.m so that doesn't help!

I've just signed up to do a marathon in one years time. I'm now in Shock

SunnyBumpIsNowSunnyMummy · 07/11/2010 11:34

Thanks for the good wishes about work, I work in a callcentre, that's what I get for doing a degree in Art but hey ho! Sorry to hear about redundancy Scones, that's rubbish :( Can you get legal advice with your household insurance (mine has a helpline) or are you in a Union? CAB?

Madmen, yes, I LOVE it! We started watching the dvds from the first series about months ago. We're on season 4 now and it's just brilliant. How fab are the offices and outfits, and hasn't feminism brought us a long way in 40 years, though I want to be a SAHM really.

CC I'm 2 weeks into expressing at work and already tiring, hats off to you for keeping it up, you're an inspiration. I'm envious of the sundress, we were at fireworks last night and it was icy! I wished I had a snowsuit like DS, he was really chilled about the noisy fireworks, and bounced for more in the gaps, safe in the sling so he could snuggle his face into my scarf at the really big bangs!

Naps: we're on 2 and have been for a while, 30 mins late morning and again in the afternoon. I've tried to lengthen them but it messes up night sleeping, (and with one, two or no feeds in 12 hours that's brilliant).

Crawling at speed now, off the bed, off the sofa, towards anything dangerous... and pulling up on things so cruising will be soon, oh and we finally have a tooth! Thought that was never going to happen.

Marathon Shock I'm now speechless and going for a lie down!

bearcrumble · 07/11/2010 12:30

Stoof I am so sorry about the job interview - atill, third out of 64 is a bloody good achievement. Maybe remind them to keep your CV on file etc.

wcress Happy Diwali. Hope things are a bit better with DH.

CC Marathon! Good luck. Are you going to do it for charity? Let us know details if so.

Thank you all so much for your sweet comments when I was feeling low. It means a lot.

What frustrates me so much is that I see how good it could be without the tiredness for a couple of days and then the bad nights return and the day is so much less easy than it could be and I pine for what it could be like with enough sleep. I don't even mind one or two wakings as long as they are half an hour or less so I don't feel like I'm asking for the moon on a stick.

Last couple of nights haven't been great and I've been tired and tetchy and by the time evening comes I'm wired and I don't go to bed early enough myself. Tonight I am going to go to bed straight after DS whatever happens.

Thinking of re-starting a bit of a stricter nighttime routine if I can bear it.

Do you think it is too late to try a dummy? Maybe it is better not to as something else to wean him off of...

bearcrumble · 07/11/2010 12:50

Oh and we are also on 2 naps. Usually first one about two and a half hours after waking and second one around 2-3 pm. About an hour each but could be more or could be much less depending.

GuernseyFrench · 07/11/2010 14:01

We're on 3 naps. One at 9 -9.30am, one at 1pm ish and one at 4 or 5pm. Lasting 20mn.

bc I would personally not advise to go for a dummy as you manage without one for 9 months. DS is still using one to settle down at nap / bedtime but 2 months ago was waking up several times a night because he lost it. He is now better but I would like him to stop using one full stop. But he is a suckling baby.

stoof poor you about the job. But see the bright light, you were 3rd. The nest time you may be the 1st! Smile

CC marathon Shock I can't even convinced myself to go to the gym at work at lunchtimes! Blush

GuernseyFrench · 07/11/2010 14:05

IC is it time for a new thread? (Just wondering? Smile )

watercress · 07/11/2010 16:13

CC a marathon?! You go girl. Is it one we may have heard of?

bc glad you are feeling a bit better, though sorry sleep isn't great.

stoof, what a poo about the job.

And thanks all for the Diwali wishes. My family came down and we had a big do at my brother's so it was a nice weekend. DD2 continued to be poorly, so DH redeemed himelf by taking her home so I could enjoy the festivities. All she has wanted to do is sleep when she has a fever, but she seems much better now after a couple of days of her clearly feeling awful. More smiles and laughter and much more her old self. Just need to get her eating again...

I think we need a new thread as well. IC can the next one have a title that hints at the run-up to their first Christmases and birthdays? Remember this time last year? I was just starting to really suffer with SPD/ Brr.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 07/11/2010 19:02

DH just said "Oy, IC, better get on the computer, they're asking you to start a new thread...!"

Lurker, DH? No!!

Okey doke, I'm on it.

But before that, a big raspberry to that organisation for not seeing your fabulousness shine through, stoof! No prizes for third maybe, but out of 64, heck, that's worth a wee pat on the back, isn't it? Bad luck and better for the next one Smile

Marathon, CC Shock Shock Shock
You're a madwoman, I always suspected as much(!)

bc ah, it sucks the sleep thing, doesn't it? And it's always SO much worse after a couple of better nights. Here's hoping he settles down again soon. You could try a dummy, but GF has a point about it being something else to wean off in the future. Having said that, you can get a toy from sleepytot which is good for babies finding their own dummies during the night. And yes, I have heard of people getting their LOs to take a dummy at this stage. And let the dummy fairies take care of future weaning. So, it might be worth a go if it could make your life a bit easier.

Maybe try a stricter bedtime routine for three nights only bc and if it doesn't work, it doesn't work... But it you set yourself a deadline, it might make it easier to bear (depending on what you're going to try). Anyway, I totally know how you feel. Empathy, sympathy and any other -thies you could do with...

Glad your DH redeemed himself, watercress!

Thanks for the nap info sunny, GF, bc and bethylou, very helpful.

Incidentally sunny, that little projector you sent me is very useful. Doesn't send DD to sleep, but I put it on to keep her chilled when she's awake in the cot in the morning so I can make myself a cuppa and get my porridge on. Cheers! Smile
