Did he live in Rotherham and drive to Devon, or flee from Devon to Rotherham?

One of the neighbours of the 28-year-old in custody had said that there were 3 brothers living next door. One had moved to Devon. Guessing he might be the 26-year-old arrested first in Newton Abbott.

So if the Rotherham man drove to Devon, did he go and visit the 26-year-old? Did the 26-year-old give the police the address of the 28-year-old when the police interviewed him.

The Rotherham neighbour claims that the neighbours' father died before Christmas and the neighbour took it badly. Also, the neighbour said that the man was a loner. Sounds like an incel type to me.

Well, I think I am always in a bit of danger. It's impossible to be completely safe. The fact that I have not spent 50 years in politics, making speeches and having all of my words in the House of Commons recorded in Hansard, probably means that as an individual I am safer than some. I don't think the rest of us were in much danger from last Wednesday onwards. I don't think 'the police' have been lying to me.

On what people thought the thread gives a pretty good time lapse of response to police statements. Like this one on the surety of it not being terrorism.

My take is the former. I think his Rotherham neighbours are saying they saw him put a big stick or pole in his car.

I initially wondered if he fled to Rotherham, but I’m now wondering if he lived there and went to Devon. I guess we’ll find out more in due course. I’m sure the police will be tracking the car’s movements from motorway cameras etc

He has been arrested for murder and now also for terrorism offences.

Counter terrorism police are now leading the investigation into the death of Ann Widdecombe, after "new information and evidence has come to light", Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) has said.

A 28-year-old white British man from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was originally arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday but has now been re-arrested "on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism", CTPSE said.

"We are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry to establish the motivation for this attack," head of National Counter Terrorism Policing, Laurence Taylor, said.

Can't the police have longer to detain suspects without charge, if it's "terror related"?

Following due process is not eroding trust.

At the start of the process there was no evidence that it met the legal definition of terrorism but the police remained open minded about the motive

Now that they have found more evidence, this postion has changed.

I had also wondered if there was a family link between the person who was arrested then released and the later person arrested

I keep thinking they wouldn’t have arrested man no.1 without good reason. They would have questioned him surely in the first instance?

If so, they might have wanted to hold the 26-year-old until they knew where the 28-year-old was to avoid any chance of a tip off.

Statement from Counter Terrorism Police South East (CTPSE)
Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) can confirm it is now leading the investigation into the death of Ann Widdecombe.
Specialist officers from across the CTP network have been working alongside colleagues in Devon and Cornwall Police since a murder investigation was launched last week.
Officers were called to Miss Widdecombe’s home at Haytor, Devon, by the ambulance service at around 11.40am on Thursday 9 July.
Sadly, 78-year-old Miss Widdecombe was located deceased within the property. She had sustained serious injuries.
A 28-year-old white British man from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday 11 July.
New information and evidence has come to light during what has been a dynamic and complex investigation and as a result, Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) is now leading the investigation.
The man in custody has since been re-arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.
CTPSE will continue to work closely with colleagues from the Devon and Cornwall Police Major Crime Investigation Team and across the Counter Terrorism Policing network in an effort to establish the full circumstances of the incident which led to this murder investigation.
Head of National Counter Terrorism Policing, Laurence Taylor, said: “Building on the progress made by our colleagues in Devon and Cornwall Police, we now have new information and evidence that means Counter Terrorism Policing is now leading the investigation.
“We are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry to establish the motivation for this attack.

Mair was motivated by white supremacist ideology and repeatedly shouted "Britain First" during the attack. He was convicted of murder and given a whole-life sentence, and officially designated as a terrorist.

I wondered the same, but he was released and no longer under investigation, not released pending further enquiries. I know this pure speculation but I wonder if he was maybe a handyman or gardener or similar who had reason to be in the house and had been seen on camera there?
