Sounds like she's throwing her hat in the ring.

She says she's paid off the tax she owes and is no longer under investigation.

This apparently means she's free to run - and is going to.

Nope. She’s thick as mince. Nowt to do with her being Northern, working class (I am too), it’s about her not understanding the world around her.

Ihateboris · 14/05/2026 08:29

Guilty as charged then!

Makes two of us!

Tontostitis · 14/05/2026 07:00

Never
Tax dodging
Lied to buy a council house cheap
Vile name calling

According to a thread I've started on this, apparently she didn't dodge.. her affairs are, erm, complex. So nothing to see here 😕

I don't love her but to say she isn't bright is wrong. I've heard to speak on several issues intelligently. A lot of people who say she's stupid is just basing this on her accent and background.
I would argue it takes a lot of gumption
and intelligence to get where she has from where she started. Very few people do.

But we need someone educated. As in exams, finished school, can understand maths. Listened and achieved in history so can understand the reasons for ww2 and debate them . Listened in geography and has awareness of locations etc. has a strong vocabulary.
She might be bright . I suspect she is. But we need someone educated.
my 11 year old is very bright and over achieving, but she is not educated to the point she could run a country and that’s how I feel about Angela. Bright is not enough.

She paid it for the wrong reasons though.

Yeah she paid it to run, not because she wanted to pay what she owed.

raynor and millibamd will be a mistake, they can never ever win an election. The hard left of the party will never give up though.

if I’m honest though, none of them can do it. Labour is finished. They’d have been better throwing their weight behind Starmer and fixing the issues, their policies, rather than attacking each other.

Potentially a useful asset for the Kremlin, though.

Given she is a proven grifter, with a penchant for freebies.

She paid it for the wrong reasons though.

According to the BBC she has been cleared of any wrong doing in terms of deliberately seeking to avoid tax, so no crime committed.

Beamur · 14/05/2026 08:33

I would prefer Starmer to stay as unless the new Leader is Uber charismatic and competent, Labour will be hammered. I don't think Raynor is anywhere near popular enough with voters to be the Leader. I don't think I would feel comfortable with voting for her given her track record on several issues important to me.

WildEnergySupplier · 14/05/2026 08:33

DaffodilLill · 14/05/2026 08:09

How convenient for her that today of all days she is able to say HMRC has cleared her of wrongdoing.

How has she pulled that one off?

A backhander perhaps?

It is a bit fishy that, yes!

She’s very popular within the party. A big personality / approachable in a way Starmer isn’t and the unions would presumably vote for her. I think the tax thing showed carelessness and would make me question her competence to run an economy.
With any of them I would prefer a period when they were tested via hustings / tv interviews etc because there is no point swapping without knowing what we would be getting instead. I’ve never really heard her speak about the economy or foreign policy.
But the right wing media would be out to destroy her even more so than Starmer so we would probably end up with Farage.

Hopefully MPs won’t fir who they ‘like’, but for who is best equipped and -more-importantly who their constituents would want.

and clearly they dint want Angela.

surely they understand that their jobs are on the line?

PenelopePinkerton · 14/05/2026 08:34

No. She is quite dim and is still in the shadow of the tax debacle.

Justusethebloodyphone · 14/05/2026 08:34

No way. He’s about as subtle as a brick in the thinking and manner.

Well said. The already repeated thick slur is appalling. And unjust.

Supersimkin7 · 14/05/2026 08:35

Nah. Bit whiffy.

Crikeyalmighty · 14/05/2026 08:35

Most certainly not and I’m centre left -she sounds thick as mince , totally unsuitable on a world stage and it’s nothing to do with her accent -

PistachioTiramisu · 14/05/2026 08:36

No - awful, awful woman. Would anyone really want her representing this country on the world stage?

TubeScreamer · 14/05/2026 08:36

not a chance! She would be an absolute disaster for the economy and the future of the country. Thick as shit and with no moral compass.

I find Reform abhorrent but wouid vote for them over a Labour Party led by her.

Catsandcheese · 14/05/2026 08:33

According to the BBC she has been cleared of any wrong doing in terms of deliberately seeking to avoid tax, so no crime committed.

But she still paid it for the wrong reasons. And if she’d taken proper advice she wouldn’t be here.

this is what I mean upthread. She is just not careful enough and that is why I dint think she’s capable.

she KNOWS her tax affairs will be combed through, so why oh why didn’t she go to a proper tax advisor.

Catsandcheese · 14/05/2026 08:37

Oh I cannot believe you lot, how can you keep calling her thick! Absolutely disgusting behaviour. You can’t bear to see another woman do well.

tara66 · 14/05/2026 08:37

Imagine her on the world stage though - cringe!

PacificState · 14/05/2026 08:38

I’m a Labour member so will have a vote. I’d prefer Streeting, but when the Mandelson stuff happened I decided I would only vote for a woman in the next leadership election. It’s beyond shameful we haven’t had a woman leader yet, and it does (I think) say something significant about the deep misogyny in the Labour movement (which the Mandelson stuff also demonstrated).

I’m not a Rayner fan, although I don’t think she’d be any worse (or any more disliked) than Starmer.

I actually kind of like the idea of Miliband returning. Feels like he has the maturity and experience to actually get Whitehall moving, and he understands the Treasury. The people who don’t like Labour would go nuts, but that’s baked in at this point.

Prefential vote would go:

Rayner
Streeting
Miliband
Burnham
Starmer

IoannahJo · 14/05/2026 08:35

No it’s not - it’s not accent, she can’t even use correct grammar - the fact is she is totally unsuitable ataworld diplomacy level -

I thought you were automatically fined and pay interest though if you don't report or pay it on time, or maybe that's just the general public who don't have a hotline to HMRC.

Fairyliz · 14/05/2026 08:38

I’m wondering who was under pressure at HMRC to clear her of all tax charges, (asking for a friend).
The timing is suspiciously convenient.
