The Green Menace

The Daily Mail's Investigations Unit, a crack team of 'journalists' who once spent three weeks proving that a Labour councillor's dog had looked at a Palestinian flag, has uncovered the truth: the Green Party is not, as previously believed, a collection of people who think buses should run on time and perhaps we shouldn't boil the ocean. No. They are "the Green Menace".

Not since the Turnip Winter of 1916 has Britain faced such an existential threat from produce. Consider the evidence:

Exhibit A: The Suspicious Houseplant
You bought it from Ikea. You named it Trevor. It has since grown three inches and now occupies a position from which it can observe your television. Coincidence? The Mail Investigations Unit would like a word with Trevor. And also with you, for harbouring him.

Exhibit B: The Hedge
Your neighbour's privet hedge has been getting ideas. It used to know its place. Now it's encroaching.. creeping, one might say. The word "lebensraum" has not been used, but only because hedges lack the vocal apparatus.

Exhibit C: That Weird Moss Situation Around Your Car Windows
A clear radicalisation pipeline..first the moss, then the lichen, then, before you know it, your Vauxhall is attending conferences and voting on motions about international law. You'll try to start the engine and it will simply quote Frantz Fanon at you.

The motion in question, for those who wandered past the headline into the actual words, concerns whether one particular nationalism should be treated as any other nationalism. This is, apparently, indistinguishable from "backing Hamas terror attacks" in the same way that noting Tuesdays exist makes you personally responsible for everything that has ever happened on a Tuesday.

But nuance is not the Mail's concern. Nuance is, itself, a kind of moss. It gets into the cracks and makes things complicated. Far better to print THE GREEN MENACE in a font size usually reserved for declarations of war and royal deaths, and let the reader's amygdala do the rest.

The Green Party may or may not pass this motion and it may or may not become policy. The specific wording concerns legal and political concepts that reasonable people can and do disagree about, thoughtfully and in good faith.
But that's not a headline, is it?

THE GREEN MENACE is a headline. THE GREEN MENACE shifts units. THE GREEN MENACE means your nan will ring you worried about Zack Polanski, who she's fairly certain was in that film with the computers, and why does he have a megaphone, and should she stop buying broccoli just to be safe.

The moss, meanwhile, continues its advance. It asks for nothing, explains nothing.
It simply grows, slowly, around the edges of things, while Britain's press furiously investigates whether photosynthesis is woke.

N.B: No vegetables were harmed in the writing of this piece, though several were looked at with deep suspicion.

It’s just that the extra paper, plastic and manufacturing pollution produced to make pronoun badges and polyester flags also costs the environment.

And you certainly hate pronoun badges, don't you?

I'm bored with this so-called debate now. I can just picture a student sitting in their room winding up the women.

Genuine poster and not AI my arse.

Oh my fucking god. Definitely sounding like a first year student lol. Am leaving now. This poster is very clearly unable or uninterested in having any serious conversation. Probably some new Green initiative. Work calls anyhow.

We have no intention of AIing your "arse", as you so eloquently put it.

And we am a genuine poster.

My nan burned her bra in the seventies. I can tell you exactly what she'd say to you if she read this sexist and ageist crap.

Yep. Mine was in a Trade Union campaigning for equal pay. 👍

Anyway, OP is clearly a dreary goader, so off I go to do some website designing with my aged crone brain.

Helleofabore · 02/03/2026 09:57

Mum, mum! The women are nasty. I only posted my most excellent recent attempt at satire and they told me it was ageist and sexist!! Then when I told them it was all in their head, called them conspiracy theorists, posted gifs about them being muppets with pitchforks, they rejected me.

I even told them about me genuinely being interested in discussion that is why I posted a sexist and ageist post on a feminist thread and invited them to discuss. Just like the midnight misogynists have been doing for years.

Why are the women not welcoming me? Why aren’t they centring me and my awesome contribution the way I wanted. I am making jokes that you usually laugh at, why are they not laughing?

fromorbit · 02/03/2026 09:58

Good to have this thread debate is essential.

As others have pointed out though.

We already have a longstanding thread about the Green Menace. ATM we are talking about the latest round of rape denial in the Greens.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5456759-sexismother-issues-in-the-green-party-england-wales-discussion-thread-2?page=18

NB no-one is saying there are not sexist dangers in other parties. The issue is we all can call the stuff out in them. No other political party is kicking women out for saying they exist. The problem with the Greens is they pretend they are not going to do evil stuff and they get horrified when you point it out. It is the same problem all over again.

Remember when you could get in trouble for saying the church was harbouring abusers.

Sorry to be boring, but we are going to point out the "nice" lefty men who are abusive sex pests and women who shield them. Because even though it is been going on for ever people keep getting taken by surprise by it.

The abusers keep moving they change names, but the behaviour is always the same.

Also remember this is not the USA - Republicans and Democrats both harbour abusers at the highest level. No-one is going to do ANYTHING there. In the UK a member of the Royal Family has lost his status. This is Terf Island. Women matter. It took along time, but it happened.

Yes we are call out the sexist hypocrisy in The Greens. Newsflash though we are not tolerating it in ANY PARTY.

You can be any skin colour, any political belief, any religion, any amount of money and Mumsnet will be coming after you. If it screws up your political programme oh dear. How sad. Do better.

Conspiratorial thinking is alive and well on this site, I see.

I am new, and this is the most active area of the boards; the reply and thread turnover rate is clearly much higher than any of part (with the possible exception of AIBU).

It's entirely reasonable to post into the most active area in the assumption it'll reach the most people and create the most debate.
What has happened, and form reading more threads here I see is the regular status quo, is that any thread on this forum that doesn't align to a certain ideology is immediately attacked.

Honestly, I'm comfortable with that. It's amusing to watch 😊

Wading through your rather flowery (see what I did there?) and garbled OP I see that this is the crux of the issue raised by the DM.

Do you think a high profile UK political party should be raising a motion that could be construed to be supporting Hamas, an actual terrorist organisation with a mission statement to eradicate all Jews?

Even if this meaning is entirely unintended (as you seem to think), once it was drawn to their attention, the normal course of action would be to reword or withdraw the motion and have a rethink.

That is if they were being honest about not supporting Hamas - surely they would be horrified at a possible misconception and ensure their message was crystal clear. Wouldn’t they?

Echobelly · 02/03/2026 10:07

Oooh the right are spooked enough to go into full on attack mode on the Greens. I mean, they can keep right on it's not like Mail readers will ever vote for them anyway. But I'll tell you something, unlike Labour the Greens will have the sense not to moderate their policies for Mail readers who will never vote for them anyway.

Yes, we understand. Many misogynist posters post in ways to dismiss or ignore women's voices. Some even have described us as sock puppets in an attempt to diminish the numbers of women telling him he was wrong and was posting misogynistically.

The actual environment, or the toxic environment of your echo-chamber. They're not the same thing, you know...

environment: real hard scientific facts. Like humans can’t change sex* and male violence is an issue for society, let alone women.

echo chamber online: subjective discourse and freedom of debate. Like the foundation of democracy.

*no, humans aren’t nematodes, or fungi. When it comes to reproduction there are only two sexes.
