Left wingers seem as bad as right wingers

I’ve seen so many people this last week who see themselves as such “right on” virtuous people posting the most horrible things on social media.

One replied to a post about Charlie Kirk, it was basically a “sorry not sorry” post because he’s so hateful. When asked by someone if she’s actually seen any of his debates she said she didn’t need to, the facts are there that he was basically a fascist who incites violence. FWIW I’ve watched several of his videos since seeing her post today and seen nothing that suggests this, even though I don’t agree with his opinion on many things (but apparently he’s doing it in code, whatever that means)

Another friend was ranting about the protest in London and using really horrible terms to describe people that went. I hate what the flags have come to represent, and I don’t doubt that there were many thugs there just wanting to stir up hate. Surely though, describing all who went to the protest as the same (basically they’re all thick as shit racist hooligans) is no better than someone describing all immigrants as benefit chasing potential rapists (or insert any other racist stereotype)

Am I missing something? Or is it considered acceptable to make sweeping generalisations as long as you’re on the left side of the political spectrum?

The pigeon-holing and finger-pointing, name-calling and downright nastiness happens in all shades and levels of human interaction. Always has, always will, more prominent now because of SM.

Discussion of it doesn’t even belong on the Politics board, in my opinion.

I mean, he can't be any worse than Starmer

He absolutely, definitely can be far, far worse.

I do hope you're a straight white male with British citizenship and pots of money, because if Reform do get in that's the only demographic that won't be fucked.

I see a lot of this "can't be worse" logic. Are people really so ignorant that they actually believe this?

I mean, I could understand it if they believed that Farage would be better than Starmer, although I wholeheartedly disagree. But thinking he can't be worse? I mean, Starmer has been pretty poor in many ways, but things could be so much worse. It's frightening to think that people don't actually realise this.

Which bit do you think is rubbish?

MsTamborineMan · 17/09/2025 17:02

Saying that people going to quite openly racist protests are thick and racist, is not the same as calling all immigrants rapists or saying they are stealing our jobs. (Which tbh is fairly tame for opinions on the matter)

The protests have been racist. Those people do hold fairly abhorrent views. People are allowed to protest but obviously many will think they are thick and racist for holding those views. Criticising someone for their openly stated opinion is very very different to assuming all immigrants are rapists or protesting against the RNLI for saving asylum seekers lives etc.

One of your ‘tolerant left’ just put a bullet through a young mans neck. In front of his wife and children. Have a word with yourself.

Nobody even knows if the suspect is the one, let alone what his politics are

BacktoKingscote · 17/09/2025 17:06

I grew up knowing that fascism and stalinism are both bad things, when did this change? It's not about left or right - there are decent people on all moderate points of the spectrum. It's about extremism, and now we have the unhelpful amplification and reach of social media on top.

dottiehens · 17/09/2025 17:07

About the protests by calling everyone going to them racists the left wingers try to prevent people with immigration concerns attending. This is what effectively makes the left worse. Their lies, intolerance, hypocrisy and authoritarianism . Which is covered up with supposedly siding with good causes. When in fact they ignore the perils of real issues.

You have absolutely no idea if that's true. Some reports are saying he killed Kirk because he wasn't right wing enough – and that may not be true either.

Wait until the trial.

His messages to his boyfriend state that he was sick of Kirk's 'hate'. Not the words of someone who didn't think he was right wing enough.

Are you a Tommy Robinson fan?

No but your question proof my points.

Dontcallmescarface · 17/09/2025 17:17

Show me videos and posts of people on the left calling for the rape of women who disagree with them and you may have a point. As it is, the only such comments/videos I've seen have come from those on the right.

dottiehens · 17/09/2025 17:14

How does it prove your point?

The protests last weekend were organised by Tommy Robinson. Most people who are not racist would not attend a protest organised by the racist Tommy Robinson, regardless of any concerns that they may or may not have in relation to immigration, because they would not wish to be associated with his racism. There may be a small minority of people who are not intelligent enough to understand what Tommy Robinson stands for, but anyone with average level intelligence or above will know. And they would only choose to lend their support to his racist agenda if they were on board with that agenda.

I’m not doubting that there are many racist thugs about, and plenty went on that march. I just mean the absolute sweeping generalisation that everyone who went on the march had no brain cells to rub together.

Realistically if you went on the march you either a)agree with Tommy Robinson and are therefore racist
B) wanted to stir up trouble and are therefore a thug
Or c) don't understand your in a racist protest in which case you are thick

Most will be a combination.

If you go on a racist march you really cannot be offended that people will assume you are thick and racist. Disliking someone based on their opinions is allowed, and not an immoral act.

We’ve seen this sort of thing quite a lot from trans activists (‘die in a grease fire’, ‘decapitate TERFs’ etc), most of whom identify as being on the left.

But OP isn't talking about Stalinism. She's talking about people thinking those who attend a fascist protest are unpleasant, and calling them names to their friends. This is not an extreme left wing view.

Tommy Robinson is a Fascist, he is openly racist. And by extension if you go to a protest organised by him you are supporting his views. You are a member of the far right whether you like it or not.

Of course extremism on either side is "bad" but these threads very rarely describe extreme left wing views.

I think it’s hilarious . The left have always championed the poor , vulnerable , disadvantaged when they were quiet and didn’t disagree with them . Now this group has come out as reform voters and are sick of the culture wars they are suddenly , thick , stupid and racist . The left have never learnt that throwing nasty personal insults is not the way to encourage people to their agenda .

How about d) You want to stop illegal immigration

It's that simple for many people who went on the march.

Do you not want to stop illegal immigration?

Quite! The left is now the elite. And they use the poor, not believe in the poor. It's a very different thing.

Look at the democrats in the US, compared to the general Trump demographic.
