Corbyn announces Your Party

His new political party with Zarah Sultana.

Except it doesn't appear to even have a name and now Zarah Sultana is having to go around twitter correcting journalists saying it's not called Your Party, while not actually clarifying what it is called.

I'm sure it will be extremely well organised.

It really is easy to be against that. It doesn’t work. The UK is shedding jobs because Labour have decided to raise taxes on work to pay for god knows what, benefits probably, which is redistribution. It’s going to be a painful few years and the country will be poorer for it.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-06-10/uk-employment-drops-most-since-2020-and-wage-growth-cools

The same Labour who tried to cut disability pay until MPs rebelled against it.

Of course it’s not saying future politicians can’t do the same. But people were adamant the Tories would be safe for the economy and wouldn’t give left wing parties (with a fully costed manifesto) a chance.

If redistribution of wealth means more money for schools, NHS and the care system it’s hard to be against that.

That 'if' is doing some heavy lifting there.

Naughty! There’s that deflection, again.

No more hyperbolic nonsense? That's a shame, its raining here and it was brightening my day. Got any more?

Lemontcat · 24/07/2025 17:55

There are over 160 billionaires in the UK - vast majority are male.

The richest 50 families hold more than 50% of the wealth.

There are more than 3.1 million children living in DEEP poverty.

This is repulsive isn’t it?

I really do want the wealth and power to be redistributed, and I will sign up to a party with a clear plan to do just this. Good luck to Jeremy and Zarah.

But what happens is those rich can afford good lawyers/move out of UK so in the end it's the middle earners who are hammered for tax, yet again because "wealthy" morphs into anyone earning more than someone else.
Middle earners are the cash cows for the left and it just stifles aspiration . Why break your back just to be constantly targeted and attacked? It's happening now under Labour and Corbyn would be Labour on speed.

That's the point. People thought (quite reasonably) that he had announced "Your Party" because that is the name of the website and he had given no further indication as to the name of the party that he was announcing.

It was a total balls-up on his part.

Brand and name… this will come and he is asking for people to create the name - it’s called co design. its a good signal of what is to come - very democratic, participatory politics.

Personally I think Corbyn is a guy with great ethics and values and is a true public servant. He listens - remember also in the days after Grenfell he went in and out his arms around people, and they listened to him. May didn’t even turn up.

I doubt his party would be voted into government as so many of UK are centrist // right leaning /: right wing. But his party will help move labour I hope back to its true values.

if only he had been voted in in 2019, the disaster of covid, the corruption, would have at very least been lessened…

Have you considered relocating?

To, say, Pyongyang?

Is hyperbole your noun du jour?

Otherwise, do try to look on the bright side - the rain is good for ones garden.

Chin up! Many of us are looking forward to watching the socialists eat themselves.

“OK, so we have already demonstrated that we are incapable of producing a proper launch event for our new party with professional branding, media, socials etc, in fact we haven’t even got a name for it, or a leader, but we are asking you to vote for us to run the country.”

What can possibly go wrong with this new party? 🙄

Rubbish, middle income earners, those on around 60kp.a, are paying no more tax now than they were under the Tories.

Very few of these will be able to afford private school either or be employing people.

Or can you name the taxes Labour have targeted for Middle Income earners....

As a leader banker said recently "Brexit is the main cause of bankers and hence hi earners leaving the UK..."

...and who gave us that??

There seems to be only two parties atm failing awfully:

labour
conservatives

  • lib dems are too “non” to matter
  • greens - have good values + policies + are growing in vote share in traditionally left areas
  • reform - taking the Tory and Labour vote and the popularity of their policies shows a lot about values of some of our population … sadly - find this party very very worrying

is it not time for proportional representation.. even with the madness of reform…

I am not a lawyer or politician, so don’t have the answers to your questions. I am a human being who can see things are unjust and I recognise there needs to be a change.
I am probably want you refer to as a middle earner and I am happy to pay tax for a fairer society that means millions of children are not living in deep poverty , or any kind of of poverty, and everyone has access to a good education, good housing, good healthcare etc.

Edited

People from all points on the political spectrum voted for Brexit.
I personally voted Remain.

So pay more tax then, HMRC already have the voluntary donation option.
All these people bleat on about being happy to pay more tax and wring their hands yet I've never met one who opts in to pay more via that scheme!

R0ckandHardPlace · 24/07/2025 18:21

Were the British public not overwhelmingly in favour of Corbynite policies? Nobody has even said that Jeremy himself will lead the new party. I’m guessing that’s another decision for its members.

Interesting on tax.. I’d look at corporation tax, tax of Uber wealthy.. (£10m+). As much as media are pushing a story of all the billionaires leaving Uk.. when see the stats - it’s not true. Plus, guranteed that if a billionaire says they are leaving due to increased tax rise… I mean… we’re they even paying ANY tax in first place…

I actually think welfare needs to be cut. However I was pretty appalled by the lack of thought that went into Labours proposals.

However it’s not possible to have a blank cheque for everything, thats just reality.

User37482 · 24/07/2025 18:30

Having said all that, people have a right to vote for who they wish and if a new political party offers an alternative that people want then they should go for it.

Oh god Corbyn's one of the big reasons Boris was elected in 2019. He was absolutely toxic to the Labour vote.

A scroll of threads on MN shows people are fed up of the education system, wait times at A&E, unable to get GP or dental appointments.

It is upsetting to see these same people so incapable of supporting any party that would genuinely help them.

How do you think YourParty would be able to effect change?
