Corbyn announces Your Party

His new political party with Zarah Sultana.

Except it doesn't appear to even have a name and now Zarah Sultana is having to go around twitter correcting journalists saying it's not called Your Party, while not actually clarifying what it is called.

I'm sure it will be extremely well organised.

From what I’ve seen of projected vote shares they would take more votes from the Green Party than Labour, which makes sense as that’s where all the hard left wankers fled once Starmer got in.

Perhaps, but it will also inevitably drag Labour to the left.

hiintrepidheroes · 24/07/2025 15:16

Meanwhile they’re the only potential party promising to stop arming Israel and to try and stop the genocide. But yeah, let’s laugh at the name instead …..

Oddly enough I personally dont care about shit like that. It's an embryo, embryos can turn into anything.

It's a good way to get people talking though. Even if they are sniggering. Still talking.

People sniggered and talked about it when Andrew Tate launched his ‘Bruv Party’.

It’s not generally a positive when people are laughing at you.

Its a non issue.

I tell you what doesn't bode well, a 19 year old in charge of a council. Get your laughing gums around that circus.

More than one issue at a timd can bode ill. And of course it's not a non issue. First impressions are important, and so is 'branding'. Die-hard Corbynistas might be scrambling over themselves to ignore any such teething troubles, but nobody else will. He's not going to win anyone over by looking so indecisive and incompetent right from the get-go!

The words "piss-up", "couldn't" "brewery" and "organise" come to mind...

It may be a "non-issue" for some people (nay, perhaps a lot of people) but if you can't even accurately communicate the name (or lack thereof) of a new Party at its launch, how is anyone going to take your policies and proposals seriously?

They won’t have any policies yet. Im guessing they’ll form a party (that part is done), organise meetings with members, democratically decide on a name, form a constitution, and the members will come up with the policies and then they’ll vote on them. That will take many months.

Which is essentially the structure the Labour Party used to have. Policies weren’t dictated by those at the top. They were raised by a member at branch level, voted on and take to constituency level, after which it would be taken to conference. Only if it was voted in at conference would it be implemented as a policy.

I don’t think so. Labour won without those votes, they are clearly more concerned about Reform.

They won as a protest vote against the Tories (understandably). I agree that Reform pose the existential threat, but there is a strong left wing, emboldened by their recent victory over PIP.

Starmer has a tough job made tougher - terrible ratings, a failing economy, immigration woes, and now Compo.

It’s delicious.

It's working for Farage.

I mean he has made his own job tougher by literally fucking up everything he touches

The Party That Is Not Called Your Party isn't registered with the Electoral Commission - a bit difficult if you don't actually have a name I suppose - and they're already asking for money.

It's the Electoral Commission that oversees and regulates the financial affairs of political parties.

What could possibly go wrong.

hiintrepidheroes · 24/07/2025 15:35

No wonder this country is doomed. Any potential for a party that will tackle education, NHS etc to improve actual people’s lives and all people do is scorn whilst in the same breath saying how terrible their child’s education is.

Because show me a country in the world where socialism/communism works? Sri Lanka/China/Vietnam?

There's no nuance or spectrum? It's right wing or gulags?

DiscoBob · 24/07/2025 15:41

I think it sounds great. I'd be interested. 'Your Party' is quite a good name really.
I respect Corbyn. He's a decent, fair man. Not that normal in politics.

They also need to be concerned about voters who thought they were voting for a Labour Government, but now feel cheated because they feel they got another version of Tory. I don't think for one minute those voters will be voting reform, but they might well look for an alternative.

It’s democratic socialism, not communism. It worked well here post-war, and Scandinavian countries or even Canada, haven’t suddenly become like North Korea. 🙄

That's the point. People thought (quite reasonably) that he had announced "Your Party" because that is the name of the website and he had given no further indication as to the name of the party that he was announcing.

It was a total balls-up on his part.

It wasn't a balls up. It is just that in the search for clickbait headlines, very few articles have bothered to report what he actually said which is that there will be a party conference held which will determine amongst other things the policies and the name of the party.

This. How have we got to a place where those with morals and integrity try to use their voice and power and just get laughed at ?

Craftysue · 24/07/2025 16:02

Zahra Sultana is my constituency MP . I think she does a decent job but I didn't vote for this. I understand that she signed a motion in the Commons supporting a by election if an MP changed parties. I wonder if she will still support this and call a by-election now?

His statement did not say that.

Have Corbyn or Sultana said something about their plans for education?

MyNameIsX · 24/07/2025 16:11

So.

We already have the Workers’ Party, the Socialist Labour Party, the Socialist Party and the Socialist Workers’ Party, and now Your Party.

Clear.
