Is the growing intrest in the reform party a sign that racism is growing in this country and has now become acceptable.

This, also a sign that sycophantic, sneering 'why won't you vote how I tell you, you fucking idiotic, brainless thicko, as I'm clearly better than you" bullshit doesn't work.

I don’t think that’s working either. It’s mostly mn tbf

StoneofDestiny · 02/05/2025 22:01

Do people seriously think Farage is a good leader? Farage who supports Trump. Farage who criticised Ukraine? Farage who incited riots in our country? Farage who encourages racism? Farage who pushed for Brexit?

StoneofDestiny · 02/05/2025 22:03

My sister in law is sharing a single bed with her six year old son in a box room at her parents house. Still waiting for housing six months later. But yeah country is fine

whose fault is that?

Kneenightmare · 02/05/2025 22:08

Reform will make life significantly worse for most ordinary people, reform voters only want it to make life worse for others. It’s only when it starts impacting them, like it is in the USA that they will realise but by then we’ll all be f*ed.
And having lived in Australia- yes large parts of it are incredibly racist.

No, it's a sign that people are sick of 2 party politics.

It is a sign that Labour threw away their chance by laying, obfuscating and gaslighting. They have pissed EVERYONE off and made pretty much everything worse: economy, education, immigration.
They called anyone who disagreed with them "far right" which only served to push people to Reform.
Labour have been arrogant, complacent and clearly hold electorate in contempt.

That's what today's results have been about.

100% this

endlesscraziness · 02/05/2025 22:11

I watched the results role in today and decided I’d read Reforms manifesto and it comes across as wannabe Trump.
•make the curriculum more patriotic
•send the boats back to France- with no consideration that France will say fuck off
•20% increase on NI for foreign employees- ignoring that this will fuck the care sector and NHS
•end of ‘woke ideology’
•zero NHS waiting lists within 2 years- no actual plan on how to do this
• and Mr ‘for the common people’ also plans on tax breaks for private schools

I wonder how many of their voters have actually read it rather than just voted because of tik tok and ‘stop the boats’

No, it’s a sign that people are worried that the country is full, and we cannot cope with more people, especially people who are coming illegally; neither Conservatives or Labour seem to have the will to address a Europe wide problem.

The chairman of Reform is of Sri Lankan heritage.

some of my best chairpersons of offensive political parties are brown. I rest my case.

nahthatsnotforme · 02/05/2025 22:14

I don’t see how wanting what’s best for a country is racist.

Gattopardo · 02/05/2025 22:20

@endlesscraziness I decided to do the same today except I googled “reform policies on local government” because that is where they currently have power.

i spent a highly confusing 5 minutes looking at the “reform” website thinking, wow, they have really invested in their PR and making themselves sound both rational and palatable … before realising I was looking at a centrist think tank website.

Second google took me right to more secure Farage ground of racist zippy, war on woke, nonsense TikTok soundbites.

Am pretty intrigued to see how Reform majority councillors manage large public service functions for Derbyshire, Notts and Durham. I’m thinking hands off and leave it to the local authority staff …

Wanting controls on immigration isn’t racist. If it was then Australia would be one of the most racist countries in the world.

It is, isn’t it? It has horrific attitudes to its indigenous people.

Hazlenuts2016 · 02/05/2025 23:02

Has anybody noticed that things have got worse since Brexit, not better? Economy has shrunk because of red tape and tarrifs. Care and NHS posts can't be filled. Shortage of other key workers. Conservatives went along with brexit referendum for their own votes. But it was Farage who kickstarted Brexit and now lots of people are voting for him because they think he can turn things around. Its partly his fault the country is in a mess in the first place. He has zero concern for people in his own constituency. Is barely there. So how could we trust him to run the country? He is incredibly wealthy but pretends to be a man of the people. He will take this country down and dismantle the NHS. He doesn't even think the NHS should be free.

Gattopardo · 02/05/2025 23:05

@Doris86 have you ever been to Aus? Very high levels of racism, including among immigrant non-indigenous populations. Greeks, Italians, Lebanese… pulling the drawbridge up is a very real thing.

The government for allowing uncontrolled immigration. It's caused the collapse of our infrastructure because we can't house and provide services to people already here. Don't you get it?!

Labraradabrador · 02/05/2025 23:07

No - if you boil this down to racism you are missing the bigger picture. I don’t agree with most of reform’s platform, but i am utterly disillusioned by both labour and conservative competence. Neither offer a compelling vision, so protest vote.

Don't you understand that a lot of people who have voted Reform yesterday don't necessarily want them in Government. But they want to send a message that we are sick of them not listening to the silent majority who do not want uncontrolled immigration. Labour have done nothing. They are hugely pro immigration and have no intention of stopping it.

The chairman of Reform is of Sri Lankan heritage.

So what? Doesn’t stop them being racist.

… and the country isn’t full.

Tell that to those living in Kent.
1 in 27 people has come into the country in the last two years.

jamanbutter · 02/05/2025 23:54

The word “racism” is thrown around nowadays just to shut down arguments.
Illegal immigration is dangerous.

Hilarious. Try telling that to the millions on housing waiting lists and NHS waiting lists. Theyll put you right....

Exactly!! And the fact they are concreting over every single bit of green space possible...because the Country is overpopulated! Do you want to live in a Country with not one single bit of Countryside or nature left? Because I certainly don't, it's what made this Country beautiful but we are rapidly losing it to cram in as many identical housing estates as possible.

Raynor has extended the policy of selling off school playing fields. She could have ended the policy but instead has extended to 2030! Got to get those houses built, and seemingly happy to do so at expense of state school kids!!

Shocking. Because exercise and fresh air isn't at all important for kids 🙄

Good interview with Cllr Darren Grimes of Durham CC on R4Today just after 7.30 today about his plans for his Council. I'm both feeling very sorry for Council employees worrying about their jobs after he confirmed he would sack people working in DEI / Net Zero - and wondering what those jobs are after the expert on local authorities confirmed that local authorities only really have the money these days for basic services like social care. (I do wish interviewers would ask about flooding prevention as that's the main net zero measure that I know about at my council).

Let's be honest. They can't make it any worse than what it is. The country is spiralling into third world territory. I cant see how any other party can make things worse. Labour were warned this would happen, but clearly didn't Care. Maybe they'll start to care now. Cue more lies and empty promises.
