Is the growing intrest in the reform party a sign that racism is growing in this country and has now become acceptable.

It's not just Labour is it though....the conservatives didn't do very well either.

People voted in a Labour government it's pledge was to spend. The FTSE 100 is actually doing pretty well comparably. There are signs of recovering economy....what we need to do is join the common market.

Reform took Conservative vote. People are rightly still pisssd with Tories but for Labour to lose Durham, as an example, is seismic.
However in good old Labour fashion, you can't admit scale of defeat, instead you point at Tories. Same with the leadership and that's why people hate them + Labour. No accountability, no acknowledgement just "we will go further, faster" which is the opposite of what people want!
Labour took a growing economy and crashed it!
At this point you've 90% lost next election to Reform. But yeh keep on denying mistakes and plough on with policies which don't work, that will just guarantee 100% failure.
To be fair Lucy Powell didn't help you yesterday 🤣

The chairman of Reform is of Sri Lankan heritage.

So what? Doesn’t stop them being racist.

… and the country isn’t full.

Perhaps you should let the government know so they can pop up a migrant hotel where you live?

If Labour do the whole it’s the electorate at fault for being impatient then they’ll keep going as they are. They seem convinced people like them when evidence is to the contrary.

To add listening to one of them use the same lines every time is likely one of the things turning people off.

MarginallyOk · 04/05/2025 09:21

I love the diversity that controlled legal immigration brings to the UK. If people want to come for a better life and contribute to the system, amazing. My life is made better by some of my brilliant neighbours and co workers who have settled in the UK from other countries.

But I worry about uncontrolled illegal immigration and the huge costs to taxpayers. I don’t think that’s racist.

p.s I don’t like Farage and co but I also don’t think a vote for them equals ‘you’re a racist’. Continuing to label Reform voters as ‘thick racists’ is likely what will propel them to national power. In the US, the more the Democrats shouted ‘Nazi’, the more the MAGA movement grew. It’s far better to have civilised conversation with people who see the world differently than to consistently label them as idiots.

I wonder whether you'll actually get what you want? What are you expecting from them is my question to you?

Do you value your local council, the NHS, British farming, paid holidays, fair rights at work, freedom of speech etc. What you might not realise is there's more in the Reform manifesto than just stopping boats. Reform like Trump actually in reality don't like real freedom of speech.... don't like the free press. What you are seeing is all staged interviews.

British farming?

twistyizzy · 04/05/2025 09:29

derxa · 04/05/2025 09:28

British farming?

I know, the irony!!

derxa · 04/05/2025 09:37

dubsie · 04/05/2025 09:02

They aren't London elite, your local council which you've just punished is made up from people in your community. Many aren't even paid and they do lots of good work, trying to work out how to fund old age care, education, school meals, social services, roads

Farage has said publicly that he will allow imports of mass produced factory farmed food into.the UK ...that's tearing up our food standards.... British Farmers will suffer which is why many won't support Reform....yes you'll get cheap chicken but your screwing over good farming

Edited

Don’t use farmers in your argument. Left wingers generally hate and despise us.

And Labour have shown that they despise farmers!!

tempname1234 · 04/05/2025 09:49

Yes. It is. They’re a party of hate. I am terrified by all the disgusting propaganda that is popping up.

in my local mum’s page in Surrey, they’re regularly making inflammatory posts. Stirring up problems that really aren’t there. They do it by posting anonymously too. I believe their trying to instil fear and then by product hate to create false social narrative to influence people’s votes

I’m terrified by the strong connection and backing by the magas of America and how this is part of organised plan to get the bored trade deal that will try to get uk to mirror the social policies coming in under Trump, the toxic over treated food supply trade and the privatisation of our nhs.

they have also started with the false claims about protesting near abortion clinics, not being able to silently prst in your homes. Then there are the AI videos of Muslims hanging out in the streets having long tables and feats outside, multiple children running around. I could go on and on

it is strong false propaganda eating away at the actual good of the uk. Creating false narrative.

very scary

I’m going to hold my hand up. I’m conservative. I voted to leave eu

id rather we rejoin Europe for safety in numbers when faced with what could now be the alternative, especially as Trump is dismantle decades of mutual suport and trade between Europe, uk and USA.

hell, as much as it PAINS me, I’d even vote labour than have reform (although I may do liberal as at least that party is strong enough in our area)

GlobeTrotter2000 · 04/05/2025 09:55

@dubsie

Until Nigel Farage becomes PM, he is not in a position to change anything. Hence, I have no expectations at this time. So, I will continue to vote for him so that he has a chance of becoming PM.

Only when elected can a party have the opportunity to make changes.

Around 80% of the public think there’s racism and the extent of it’s getting worse: https://www.statista.com/statistics/1123242/opinion-on-racism-in-uk-society/.

For me the Reform votes are certainly a sign of a reduction in anti-racism (and all anti-discrimination).

I’ve fought discrimination all my adult life (since 1980s). It’s not good enough to not be racist or not support policies which have racist effects (like cuts to benefits). It’s not good enough to turn a blind eye to racism or any discrimination. You have to be anti-racist, by educating yourself and challenging it.

For example, Reform want to abolish the Equality Act 2010. This makes racism, sex discrimination or disability discrimination unlawful. It also requires all public bodies (NHS, schools, councils etc) to be subject to an equality duty and assess the impact of policy changes on protected groups, including women.

But apparently more voters think it’s fine and dandy to make racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism etc totally legal and not give two stuffs if policies discriminate. People who vote Reform don’t mind if women are discriminated against, such as by being sexually harassed at work. They’re voting to remove women’s rights. As well as Black people’s rights. Disabled people’s rights etc.

What do you think about the fact some immigrants (including immigrants arriving with a visa) are themselves homophonic, misogynistic and racist? Is that fine because they are the immigrant?

I don't think all immigrants share British values. And for the people that will ask with faux naivety "what are British values?" I would say for the most part they are to live and let live in peace, safety and freedom.

People are not a blank canvas. I don't think (in fact I know first hand) that not all immigrants believe that gay people and women should live in peace, safety and freedom. Different people from all different cultures also bring their own racism against other countries/cultures and religions.

I am well aware we have plenty of our own citizens(usually men) that pose a risk to a safe and free way of life for gay people/women and sometimes people of a minority group. But that doesn't mean that we should allow more.

Are you even aware of how much Labour is hated across the country?

Not as much as the Tories. Justine Greening said this morning that they’re finished.

And not likely to ever be again if Thursday’s result is anything to go by. Whether they’re in power or not is irrelevant to the point I responded to which is that Labour are hated, clearly they’re not as hated as the official opposition.

Oh they really are! To lose a council that's been under Labour control for 100+ years plus is seismic.
Only 9 months since Tories lost the election so not surprising they are still unpopular. Would be surprising if they were any more popular than they were in July

The Tories lost 679 seats, Labour lost 188 - go figure.

You are demonstrating perfectly why people are pissed with Labour. Refusal to acknowledge, arrogance and constant lack of accountability. Carry on because this sort of attitude is what will lose Labour the general election

Are you seriously trying to paint this as a success for Labour?

twistyizzy · 04/05/2025 12:02

"We hammered pensioners, students, carers, disabled and farmers and said it’s because of a £22 billion black hole. But we will spend £30 billion on carbon capture machines and £11.6 billion on overseas climate aid. It’s a complete mystery why we did so badly at local elections.”
Great quote!
