Is the growing intrest in the reform party a sign that racism is growing in this country and has now become acceptable.

The chairman of Reform is of Sri Lankan heritage.

So what? Doesn’t stop them being racist.

… and the country isn’t full.

So what exactly does a non racist immigration policy look like then?

And of course it’s not full if you want the entire country to live at the density of London or New York or Hong Kong. Which lots of people don’t.

Wanting controls on immigration isn’t racist. If it was then Australia would be one of the most racist countries in the world.

Australia is one of the most racist countries in the world. Look at how they treat their own indiginous population.

mugglewump · 03/05/2025 10:37

Britain is certainly becoming less tolerant on so many levels. As wealth inequality grows, people are failing to see that it's the super rich and multinationals that are causing their hardship and laying the blame where it is more visible to them. This is exactly what happened in Nazi Germany and it is happening all over the western world.

Social media has created echo chambers where people feel safe to declare what was previously deemed unacceptable, and as people take comfort in these inhumane ideas the rhetoric overflows into every day life.

What makes a country full? There is no measure, so it is right wing media that has created this concept and spread it far and wide.

What is the ideal mix of generations in a country? Surely it needs a majority of people of working age to support the others and as the birth rate plumets, this has to come from immigration.

As for blaming NHS waiting lists on immigrants - they are the NH workers.

I fear for my children's generation who will at some point have to pick up the pieces of this far right populism and re-right, or re-write, the world.

Tell that to those living in Kent.
1 in 27 people has come into the country in the last two years.

Lots of the overcrowding in Kent and lack of home for local people is also due to Londoners moving down for more space and a nicer life and driving up house prices. I live in a town which used to be affordable but now you need at least one London salary to afford to live here. No one talks about that and the impact on local infrastructure. It’s always the ‘boat people’

Raynor has extended the policy of selling off school playing fields. She could have ended the policy but instead has extended to 2030! Got to get those houses built, and seemingly happy to do so at expense of state school kids!!

It’s Rayner. And a link would be nice. ☺️

I think it’s a sign that we are losing industry and jobs with many people struggling and the Government doing sweet FA about it. I was made redundant at the end of last year and have been on JSA. The support from DWP has been nonexistent. They just check I’ve applied for stuff and pay the money. I’d much rather be in work and they could be either providing more support or signposting to other agencies. Any support I have found, I have accessed through my own initiative. There is also a social care crisis which the Gov is playing down and people have had enough. I personally wouldn’t vote for Reform but I can under why people do.

We lost all our industry 40 years ago under Thatcher. Most of the country’s ills are rooted in her myopic policies.

Could someone please explain to me how wanting to control immigration is 'racist'.

Google is a really good place to find links however I'm in a good mood so here you go:

I don't think all people who vote for Reform are necessarily doing so because they are racist. Many are just disillusioned and see it as a protest vote. But they are obviously choosing to vote for Reform despite the racism, so yes, I do think the growing popularity of Reform reflects the fact that racism has become more acceptable in this country. If people weren't willing to turn a blind eye to the racism, they would find another way of registering their disillusionment instead, so they are clearly making the calculation that they just don't care.

And people still mourn the ‘good old days’ 🤷‍♀️ People wanted globalisation so it will be interesting to see how many support what we could lose by turning our backs on it. I’m in favour of British made products, just not sure I can afford them! I also quite like travel which is at risk of becoming much more expensive.

Could you please point me to which of Reform's policies are racist? Thanks.

No, I do not believe it is. However, there is an ongoing fundamental change across Europe regarding the rejection of unlimited immigration and socialism. Based on the recent results, it appears that this change is “coming here soon.

If the majority of people believe immigration is too high (52% in a recent poll), it is likely that many of them hope Reform will actually do something about it.

Dismissing anti-immigration as racist doesn’t address a genuine legitimate concern. Most of the European parties made the same mistake.

Kneenightmare · 03/05/2025 13:47

Livelovebehappy · 02/05/2025 23:11

Don't you understand that a lot of people who have voted Reform yesterday don't necessarily want them in Government. But they want to send a message that we are sick of them not listening to the silent majority who do not want uncontrolled immigration. Labour have done nothing. They are hugely pro immigration and have no intention of stopping it.

However you/they have voted them into local government so it’s not just a protest vote. It will impact local services and how budgets are allocated. But it won’t limit immigration as those are central policies.

And they don’t have to vote for a racist party. There are two other mainstream parties outside labour and tories.

Many of their councillors are demonstrably racist. Easy to find out bet checking what they have posted on Facebook. Such as openly admiring hitler or wanting to machine gun people in small boats because they are fed up with immigrants.

Kneenightmare · 03/05/2025 13:53

Livelovebehappy · 03/05/2025 08:34

Let's be honest. They can't make it any worse than what it is. The country is spiralling into third world territory. I cant see how any other party can make things worse. Labour were warned this would happen, but clearly didn't Care. Maybe they'll start to care now. Cue more lies and empty promises.

And do you think Labour are responsible for that? There are significant global issues impacting the economy that are impacting pretty much all countries and 14 years of political instability and voting to isolate ourselves from our nearest trade partners has not helped. There’s no magic wand to fix that and if there was it certainly wouldn’t be Nigel Farage waving it.

Can you honestly say the UK is an attractive place to live right now (unless you are a millionaire)? Quality of life has decreased dramatically and the Labour government have kick started a recession. The Tories bled the country dry of course.

Yes you can. The UK is one of the wealthiest and safest countries on the planet. Go to prettyuch by country in Asia, Africa or South America and then you may change your mind.

I've not seen this but I have seen Reform instantly dismiss anyone displaying extremist views. Could you please show me some examples of these councillors?

hope that helps.

Legal dwellers moving up and down the country is normal, they are legal.
Illegal migrants should not be in the country. The boat people are the problem. Since when have we started to support illegal actions.

BIossomtoes · 03/05/2025 21:02

They’re not illegal unless their claim has been denied - for the umpteenth time.
