A Christian sermon is now more controversial than a nazi salute! WTF!

Republicans' reactions to Rev Mariann Budde include calls for her to be booted out of the US due to her sermon reminding the congregation (which included Pres. Trump) that the Christian message features some very basic principles such as treating others with humanity and respect. Georgia congressman Mike Collins Budde, a US citizen, “should be added to the deportation list” because of it. So, is the US now a place where people will condemn the basic tenets of Christianity but celebrate a nazi-saluting notorious proponent of trans-humanism (why doesn't Trump call out this frankly creepy and downright wicked pursuit and picks on vulnerable people instead?)? What of freedom of expression? A one-way street? Those who branded the Reverend 'leftist' and closed their ears to her message should not be calling themselves Christians.
One of my good friend lives in Georgia. She told me that one of her local church ministers got told off by his congregation for talking about the ten commandments because 'too leftist'. I shit you not. I don't normally pray - at least not publicly- but really, God help us all!

nazi-saluting notorious proponent of trans-humanism
If you believe Musk really gave a Na*i salute then you’re as bonkers and gullible as the rest of the baying mob.

Why can't you write Nazi?
That is what is bonkers

StandFirm · 22/01/2025 13:25

See, I personally am neither right nor left because those buckets are too restrictive. I will however always try to be on the side of the human - not greed, not tech, not jackboots...
Rev Budde is not talking as a 'leftist', she is talking as a human being with a Christian faith.

It wasn’t Christian at all, she was rude, patronizing, pathetic and lied.

What did she lie about?

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/01/2025 13:26

spoonfulofsugar1 · 22/01/2025 13:19

I think her sermon was awful. Attention seeking and pathetic. Trump is vile but she used her sermon to make political points and it was inappropriate.
Talk about mercy, fine, but why plea specifically for mercy for lesbian, gay and transgender children if not to make a political point. And she stated that they are in fear for their lives? Really. Absolute hyperbole. But tbh I'm surprised he even went, Bishop Budde is known for left wing views.

She didn't just plea for mercy for LGBT people though. She asked for it for the people who feel afraid right now.

That was because non-binary people and illegal immigrants were specifically targeted and mentioned during the inauguration. And if you personally knew any of them you'd know they're absolutely terrified. Maybe, just maybe, they're wrong to be terrified, but that was the very point of her sermon: Mr President, please will you reassure them that they're wrong to be scared!
Instead of doing that, he and his supporters double down. So how do you think those people feel right now as we speak??

Define ‘non-binary person’

StandFirm · 22/01/2025 13:28

Trump used that terminology, ask him.

So you don’t have a definition then?

StandFirm · 22/01/2025 13:30

You know full well what it means. Not derailing my thread by engaging into a debate on what non-binary possibly encompasses.

Lesbian, gay and transgender people may well be fearful that the tide in the US is turning awful from the neverending appeasement and pandering of trans ideology but that doesnt equate to them being fearful of their lives and its nonsense for her to say that.

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/01/2025 13:37

Gay people are fearful that their legal marriages will be made null and void. This is now a reasonable fear for them to have. Just as US women are afraid for their access to abortion and other healthcare.

It's not all about the trans.🙄

I don't know whether you are familiar with the teachings of Christ but Jesus himself was pretty left wing.

Given the new administration's clear support for far right groups I don't think it's ridiculous at all. I don't think that Trump's going to send out the army to do a little gay bashing but the Proud Boys might.

justasking111 · 22/01/2025 13:42

Firstly it wasn't a nazi salute.

Secondly I've sat in a catholic service and the priest ranted at the whole congregation at a funeral of a well loved local man. So the congregation weren't all catholic by any means. Think he wasn't going to let a full church go to waste.

StandFirm · 22/01/2025 13:43

The undocumented migrants about to be rounded up and the children of those migrants are certainly very fearful for their lives- so many of them had to flee cartel-ridden hell holes and returning to that will possibly mean death for some of them. Does that need spelling out?
LGBTQ+ communities suffered in the not too distant past, and they certainly don't want a return to the bad old days. And yes, some of them were killed for who they were.
Only decades ago lynchings happened in some parts of the South. Remember Jim Crow? How about that? Many people remember it vividly.
My point is: she was appealing for a message of unity and mercy. Not a return to endemic intolerance. What could possibly be wrong with that?

And when it comes to countering crazy 'wokeratis', it seems some people care so passionately about women's sports that they're willing to throw away all the social progress made in the last 50 years in the same of something that I bet they NEVER watched in the first place! I get that self-ID is controversial. Get it. But it's been weaponised to death. Can we please park that aside and keep working on a fairer society where no one is discriminated against. That's just common sense and instead of going full on Gilead, we should keep working on better mechanisms to make that happen.
Regarding immigration, again, better levers are surely workable without rounding up US born children like cattle.

I think Elon Musk is a drug-addled narcissist who is a bigot in any number of ways, and the biggest risk to global stability this side of Putin, but he wasn't deliberately doing a Nazi salute, and all the energy we're wasting talking about it is simply playing into his/Trump's hands.

^^this.

Lovelysummerdays · 22/01/2025 13:45

I didn’t think it really looked like a nazi salute. I thought a nazi salute was a lot straighter. I feel like you’d of been invited in for a chat with gestapo if you saluted like that. Not s big nazi fan but I did watch man in the high castle. Lots of super crisp saluting.

Zonder · 22/01/2025 13:49

Whoknew24 · 22/01/2025 12:40

Why would I need to elaborate to you ? That’s my perception that’s my opinion I do not need to elobrare any further. You’re all left supporters and upset they’re now in government. So I’ll let you all loose your mind while common sense is being restored.
reply by all means I wouldn’t waste my time returning to this ridiculous thread.

Of course you don't need to, but isn't the point of posting on forums like this to make a point? What's it worth if you can't actually be clear on what that point is? Renders your post meaningless.

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/01/2025 13:23

One of the things my mother told me was "Never make yourself look foolish by defending a man." This past day I have seen women turn themselves inside out trying to defend Musk's Nazi salutes. It's desperate, sad and unnecessary given that he could perfectly well defend himself if he wanted.

After all he is the richest and one of the most powerful people in the world.

That’s brilliant, I’m going to tell my daughter that! It’s actually pathetic watching people try to excuse what is clearly a nazi salute.

Even without getting into contentious debate, there is a clear and evidenced record of violence and murder against lesbian, gay and transgender people; as well as against ethnic groups. MAGA and its supporters glorify a white patriarchal oligarchy, and have openly advocated violence. An incoming president has pardoned nearly 1600 terrorists (what else do you call people who seek to overthrow democracy through violent means?). And you think that people are not fearful for their lives and their safety? When thousands of people are saying that they fear for their lives and their safety you think they are blowing off steam?

Nobody - absolutely nobody - should live is fear of violence because of who they are or what they believe. It is entirely irrelevant whether you agree with their lifestyle and choices, their immigration status, or anything else. When violence is the answer, you have lost any moral highground that you pretend to.

StandFirm · 22/01/2025 13:52

And also, funny how the same people who tie themselves in knots defending Musk also want others to take deep fakes of Dems at face value. Hilarious.

It was a performative, unconvincing, and sentimentalising speech, imo.

Possibly she had a chance to make some good points, but I didn't feel it hit the mark at all.

(edit - I only saw the edited clips, not the full thing. Maybe I've missed some really impressive bits).

Adamante · 22/01/2025 13:58

What a patronising sermon “Who’s going to do all the shit work if we send the migrants back?!” 😩

It wasn’t. He touched his heart and threw love out. Maybe overly excitable & sentimental, but not Nazi. Don’t those who claim it was realise how ridiculous you sound? What are you going to do when Trump & his regime really do start screwing up? No one will take it seriously or probably even notice because they’ll be too busy reporting on bullshit Nazi Salute claims. The Dems & their pet media people never seem to learn. The longer this crap goes on for the longer Dems will be perceived as pernicious liars and they’ll never get voted in again 🙄

Thistoo2023 · 22/01/2025 14:04

Soontobe60 · 22/01/2025 13:24

Is this a Na*i salute too?

🙄 Just like all the others posted on this thread, it’s a STILL image. Obviously anyone could find themselves captured like that for a split second. To compare those kind of images with the moving footage of Musk and all the context provided in that footage is completely disingenuous.
