A Christian sermon is now more controversial than a nazi salute! WTF!

Republicans' reactions to Rev Mariann Budde include calls for her to be booted out of the US due to her sermon reminding the congregation (which included Pres. Trump) that the Christian message features some very basic principles such as treating others with humanity and respect. Georgia congressman Mike Collins Budde, a US citizen, “should be added to the deportation list” because of it. So, is the US now a place where people will condemn the basic tenets of Christianity but celebrate a nazi-saluting notorious proponent of trans-humanism (why doesn't Trump call out this frankly creepy and downright wicked pursuit and picks on vulnerable people instead?)? What of freedom of expression? A one-way street? Those who branded the Reverend 'leftist' and closed their ears to her message should not be calling themselves Christians.
One of my good friend lives in Georgia. She told me that one of her local church ministers got told off by his congregation for talking about the ten commandments because 'too leftist'. I shit you not. I don't normally pray - at least not publicly- but really, God help us all!

Why would I need to elaborate to you ? That’s my perception that’s my opinion I do not need to elobrare any further. You’re all left supporters and upset they’re now in government. So I’ll let you all loose your mind while common sense is being restored.
reply by all means I wouldn’t waste my time returning to this ridiculous thread.

I didn't disrespect you. You came on to my thread to voice your opinion. You have. You can leave now if you like. It's a free country but no insults needed.

Oh resorting to insults that’s normally the case with left. Toddle to you to !

@Whoknew24 “Toddle to you too” doesn’t even remotely make sense 🤣. Bless you for trying though.

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/01/2025 12:45

Whoknew24 · 22/01/2025 12:37

Exactly as I thought. It’s ok for all the others but not anyone connected to the current administration. I’ll leave you all to it, while the new American government get on with the job.

Off you pop then.

dairydebris · 22/01/2025 12:45

American Christianity is so far removed from new testament Christianity that it's genuinely unrecognizable.
4 more years of this utter shit show to go 😬

NoisyBear · 22/01/2025 12:46

If it's not a nazi salute would you start doing that in public then? Start doing it at work and see how that goes down or maybe in the school yard when you are picking up your kids. It shouldn't be a problem for you, given it was just a meaningless gesture.

I think Elon Musk is a drug-addled narcissist who is a bigot in any number of ways, and the biggest risk to global stability this side of Putin, but he wasn't deliberately doing a Nazi salute, and all the energy we're wasting talking about it is simply playing into his/Trump's hands.

Nazis seem to think he was doing a Nazi salute. Perhaps Elon should clarify, if he didn’t mean to. But he won’t.

Porcuporpoise · 22/01/2025 12:48

Whoknew24 · 22/01/2025 12:23

Again he pumped his heart then arm out not a nazi salute at all 🤦‍♀️ did you post about Kamala doing it ? What about Obama ? What about Taylor Swift ? No ? Didn’t think so. This is getting tiresome and people really need to start using their critical thinking skills.

And that was not the time nor the place for the so called sermon.

Seriously? A cathedral's not the right place for a sermon on Christian values?

Trump's bigly on Christianity so he's going to have to get used to hearing some uncomfortable stuff.

StandFirm · 22/01/2025 12:48

The problem faced by the Evangelical right is that ultimately, their extreme political values are incompatible with Christianity and they will have to make a choice (think by and large they already have). Catholics who tried to get on the right side of the Hitler regime back in the day found that out at their expense (priests got killed like the rest of them). I don't like the reaction to the very dignified sermon for that reason as well. Not a good sign.

The bots and trolls are out in force on this thread. Musk knew precisely what he was doing and the controversy that would follow. (He and his ilk love the chaos it cause with the little people). Thankfully so did the brave woman. She was spot on.

StandFirm · 22/01/2025 12:56

What I do find striking is how quickly some people claim they've been insulted or their opinions oppressed or shouted down. Those are the people whose side has WON! E.VE.RY.THING!
So what's with the chronically thin skin?...

No indeed – because all of this is playing into his hands entirely. It benefits him if fascists think he was too much for it to be worth him issuing a denial.

I like how you ignored everything else. . Not surprised.

And no I felt she was rude and patronising and do not feel it was an appropriate time. My opinion I am adult and I entitled to have one. You keep on pushing your narrative !

Edited

Rude? No - she was not. She was giving Trump and his followers a Christian word of warning.
She was fantastic. I applaud her

Terrible winners

I should clarify: he absolutely knew what he was doing. I just mean that he was doing it to court the publicity that we’re giving him by endlessly analysing it, not because he is a genuine, card-carrying Nazi.

He is a card-carrying cunt though. Much like trump etc.

Of course you need to elaborate!! You’ve says she was rude and patronising by giving a sermon about Christian values in a Christian church. In her Church.

You’ve made an argument and we want you to back it up with why you think that. Simple.

But - you may be one of these people who just spout and don’t know why. You believe what you have been told and that is the end of it. No rhyme, no reason. Maybe you can’t back it up.

There is only one actual nazi salute, that wasn’t it 😉
A white supremacist, really? 🤣

It was though. Do you not feel a little silly defending someone making a nazi salute?

@Whoknew24 Are you seriously unable to appreciate the significance of moving versus still images in these circumstances? And you have the audacity to lecture on critical thinking skills 😆

I mean, doesn't this pretty much sum up almost everything about Trump supporters? By which I don't mean those who held their noses and voted for him, although I don't understand that either. I saw it on X, so it must be true seems to be most of their thought process.

spoonfulofsugar1 · 22/01/2025 13:19

I think her sermon was awful. Attention seeking and pathetic. Trump is vile but she used her sermon to make political points and it was inappropriate.
Talk about mercy, fine, but why plea specifically for mercy for lesbian, gay and transgender children if not to make a political point. And she stated that they are in fear for their lives? Really. Absolute hyperbole. But tbh I'm surprised he even went, Bishop Budde is known for left wing views.

Mrsbloggz · 22/01/2025 13:19

Trump is the new Jesus 😱
Everything else flows from that.

Soontobe60 · 22/01/2025 13:21

nazi-saluting notorious proponent of trans-humanism
If you believe Musk really gave a Na*i salute then you’re as bonkers and gullible as the rest of the baying mob.

One of the things my mother told me was "Never make yourself look foolish by defending a man." This past day I have seen women turn themselves inside out trying to defend Musk's Nazi salutes. It's desperate, sad and unnecessary given that he could perfectly well defend himself if he wanted.

After all he is the richest and one of the most powerful people in the world.

That was because non-binary people and illegal immigrants were specifically targeted and mentioned during the inauguration. And if you personally knew any of them you'd know they're absolutely terrified. Maybe, just maybe, they're wrong to be terrified, but that was the very point of her sermon: Mr President, please will you reassure them that they're wrong to be scared!
Instead of doing that, he and his supporters double down. So how do you think those people feel right now as we speak??
