Why do people in the UK support Trump?

I've even seen MAGA flags (ok, maybe the owner was American). But Trump's focus and ONLY thing he cares about is America. He couldn't give a shit about the UK and would happily see the UK in ruins if it benefited America.

I don't think many people here like Trump. I just had that very conversation with someone.

Bodybutterblusher · 20/01/2025 18:34

For the same reason people liked Boris and Farage. It's not rational.

Bigwelshlamb · 20/01/2025 18:35

He'd also see the US in ruins if it benefitted him. I've no idea why anyone supports him because he's failed legislatively at every turn but I suppose people just like the fuck you attitude and subversiveness? It's bizarre and dangerous but I'm sure someone will come along shortly and explain why I'm wrong.

LaurieFairyCake · 20/01/2025 18:42

Stupid
Irrational
Weird
Think they're American
Nutter
Goady cunts

Pick your poison Grin🤷‍♀️

ruethewhirl · 20/01/2025 18:44

Because they're thick.

Linlithgow · 20/01/2025 18:46

Similar views...He clearly has a lot of supporters. I'm not surprised that filters over to the UK

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 20/01/2025 18:47

I don't support him, or indeed any politicians, they're all crooks and liars. I do however support people's right to vote in who they want. People voted him in so I guess they have their own reasons and experiences to determine that's their preferred candidate. Ultimately we don't live there so we really can't rationalise what makes them want to vote for him.

crumblingschools · 20/01/2025 18:48

Can’t imagine why anyone here would support him with the tariffs he’s going to hit the country with

CaveMum · 20/01/2025 18:50

ruethewhirl · 20/01/2025 18:44

Because they're thick.

I think Trump is an absolute idiot and wish that the Republicans had grown a spine and taken him to pieces during the January 6th committee hearings so that Trump 2.0 would have been a practical impossibility.

That said it is comments like the one I have quoted that show exactly why people will keep voting for politicians (in the loosest possible terms) like Trump, Farage and Johnson. Sneering at people for the way they vote rather than taking the time to listen to their concerns and taking steps to address them will just continue the pattern of left/left-leaning political parties having their backsides handed to them.

Sausagenbacon · 20/01/2025 19:04

I loath Trump, but take enormous pleasure in hearing non-Trump supporters wailing and gnashing their teeth.

Pamosonic · 20/01/2025 19:12

I've never once seen anyone or any house with a maga item in the UK.

I don't really understand why people in this country get so worked up about a democratically elected president in another country. It's not our business really. I'm of the opinion all politicians are slippery self serving power hungry liars anyway. The democrats as an alternative are certainly no angels either.

Musk and Trump just admitted musk had a huge influence with his billions for the election. I’m not so sure he was democratically elected. It was a close call. It’s all weird. I agree democrats need to get their house in order but the way MAGA are behaving screams cult. It’s different to last time . They’ve lost the plot and are obsessed to the point it reminds me of how tyrants I’ve gained power.

Easipeelerie · 20/01/2025 19:17

When Trump won the election, an acquaintance of mine, who I had assumed was pleasant and rational, took a photo of herself in a MAGA cap and posted it on Facebook. Not only that, it got 11 likes! I think she thinks he will create peace in the world or something. It made me realise again there’s nowt so weird as folk.

Ringpeace · 20/01/2025 19:20

Because it overlaps with a lot of conspiracy theory/antivax/ultra-libertarian/antiwoke cobblers

in short: It's a way for thick people to feel clever.

Like Liz Truss.

Seamless11 · 20/01/2025 19:20

People want to see an end to all the woke nonsense and seeing Trump start to destroy it in the US gives people in the UK some hope.

xyz111 · 20/01/2025 19:21

Everyone will love him when he stops the Ukraine/Russia war tomorrow 🤣

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 20/01/2025 19:22

Fuck knows why anyone likes him no matter where he is.

Let's get the next 4 years over with! Man makes me sick!

Jingleballs2 · 20/01/2025 19:25

Possibly the same reason others hate him so much. It obviously bothers you 🤷‍♀️

Agree with this tbh.

I think people see him as a leader, someone to make change, put wrong things right. They probably aren't looking at it like you are. They're just placing a vote and decide who they like most, or dislike least.

Don't let it get to you. These nutters they show you on the news are just 1% of the voters.

They have just put the biggest nutter of them all into the White House, again!!!

I know one guy walking around with a maga baseball cap..not American..loves Trump...I often wonder if he thinks the UK is part of the States the way he goes on. Spends hours watching you tube videos..

At this point, I very much wish we were. I would take the UK being absorbed as the 51st state.

Actually yes, that's probably the reason! Yes true is a horrible person, but it's not a personality contest. You're voting for who you think will run the country the way you think is best.

Justsayit123 · 20/01/2025 19:34

Why do people support Biden? Oh wait, the majority don’t.
