Why do people in the UK support Trump?

I've even seen MAGA flags (ok, maybe the owner was American). But Trump's focus and ONLY thing he cares about is America. He couldn't give a shit about the UK and would happily see the UK in ruins if it benefited America.

Trump, speaks off pat for hours on Joe Rogan.
Harris, couldn't speak for a minute without a teleprompter.

Yet people who prefer the former are the stupid ones?

I could blather on Rogan for hours on end though. Especially if nobody was going to take anything I said seriously let alone analyse it for mis speak. Whereas Harris got hauled over the coals by a panel of black people. And why not? But sauce for the goose .

oldwhyno · 21/01/2025 11:22

There are lots of reasons why. Because he's somewhere to the right of center. Because he's nationalist. Because he stands against gender lunacy. Because he takes a stand against unchecked mass migration.

There will be more, but none of them are because he's a pleasant person!

Joystir59 · 21/01/2025 11:24

Most people I know think he's awful. But- you can clearly see what he is. I'm sick of self serving useless left-seeming politicians who don't nail their colours to any specific mast and have sold women and girls out for wokism.

Joystir59 · 21/01/2025 11:27

I blame the lily livered left for the rise of the right. The world is now run by Elon Musk etc. Fact.

Hyperion100 · 21/01/2025 11:28

I think people like him as hes an old fashioned "bloke" who is mildly entertaining as a character on the world stage.

They choose to ignore that he will not be good for anything or anyone in the UK.

NotBadConsidering · 21/01/2025 11:30

The Left aren’t lily livered. They’re sanctimonious, censorious, authoritarian, bigoted, anti-Semitic, homophobic, sexist and misogynistic.

So some people feel trapped between a rock and a hard place, so pick the person who they think will put food on the table and more money in their back pocket, however accurate that decision may be.

Because they are racist

This, too frankly. There are plenty of racists and Xenophobes in the UK. They don't like brown people and they don't like anyone living here who wasn't born here. Which is why we left the EU and are now paying extortionate prices for food.

Hermyknee · 21/01/2025 13:33

Because they haven’t got an NHS or the same welfare system as us so it’s more everyone for themselves. So people have a different mindset so when times are tough people think his party will mean lower costs for them personally. The USA is a capitalist country.

We don't!

HouseOfGoldandBones · 21/01/2025 13:35

Because they have a different political view than you?

JoyousGreyOrca · 21/01/2025 13:37

Because they are racist and support very far right policies.
Some of them even call themselves feminists or pretend to care about women's rights. What they mean is they care about some women. They do not give a shit about babies and mothers being separated at the border during the last Trump presidency and some of those children who were forcibly separated from their mothers being sexually abused in camps. It will happen again, but those women and children do not matter because they are not white.

But they've broken the law. If a woman in the UK goes to jail, do people cry that she's separated from her children?

JoyousGreyOrca · 21/01/2025 14:00

@Jingleballs2 You do know some of us campaign to stop women being separated from their babies in the UK?

In the US border babies and young children were separated from their mothers and all family members and put into group institutions. There was zero reason not to keep families together, except to punish people. It made the babies and children very vulnerable as they had no adults looking out for them. And there are documented cases where some of the children were sexually abused. If you think those babies and children do not matter, then just be honest.

If all you can do is call people dim, gullible and incapable of critical thinking because they don't want rapists in women's prisons, or their children removed for not 'affirming', and want an end to the child mutilation and sterilisation, then it is you who can't think critically.

What makes you assume I don't agree with you on those points? I literally do, but I refuse to vote on single issues. Do you think Trump actually gives a damn? He is a convicted felon and rapist does not care one jot for women's rights. He's jumped on it, because it will garner him votes. His views on climate, how to manage the economy, democracy and the rule of law itself would make it impossible for me to ever support him.

Yes I'm glad someone jumped on it. The Democrats made themselves unelectable. They gave it away. He just took it off them.

JoyousGreyOrca · 21/01/2025 15:38

You talk as if people had no choice but to vote for the racist and misogynist Donald Trump.

Darklane · 21/01/2025 20:08

Dappy777 · 20/01/2025 20:08

I’d say Obama and Biden were far more anti-British than Trump.

Most British people consider Trump a joke. Personally, I think he’s awful, but I have grown to hate the smug, sneering, Guardian-reading left so much that I was pleased he won. The thought of Owen Jones or Stewart Lee or Will Self being upset makes me happy. The left dominate the BBC, the universities, the media, the arts, and the publishing industry, and they are doing all they can to destroy my identity. The whole idea of Englishness and Britishness are now toxic thanks to them.

This.

JoyousGreyOrca · 22/01/2025 00:53

You do know Hitler was seen as a joke?

It is pretty childish to want someone to be President just so that people you do not like are upset.

Jacquette · 22/01/2025 01:31

Seamless11 · 20/01/2025 19:20

People want to see an end to all the woke nonsense and seeing Trump start to destroy it in the US gives people in the UK some hope.

Can you define ‘woke’ for me please?

Jacquette · 22/01/2025 01:55

“So some people feel trapped between a rock and a hard place, so pick the person who they think will put food on the table and more money in their back pocket, however accurate that decision may be.”

They must be concerned today, I did not hear Trump address any of the issues in his inauguration speech that currently seem to worry most US citizens, such as housing, health care, food prices, education, and the minimum wage currently being 1/3 the living wage, nor did he address the climate crisis and the recent unprecedented big weather events that so many states have had to grapple with only just recently.

I think some people support Trump because they feel he gives them permission to say whatever the fuck they want, regardless if it is true or not, and whether it imperils other people or not. It won’t end well for any of us - is my opinion.

BigSilly · 22/01/2025 03:24

Because he wants to end
1 illegal immigration
2 net zero nonsense
3 gender ideology

Same as Farage

This was horrifically cruel. Trump supporters usually respond to this by saying it never happened or the democrats made up tapes of crying children to make Trump look bad. Or some such nonsense....

Why do you not care about the thousands of children that have been trafficked into the US as a result of Biden’s open border policy. These children are unaccounted for and lost. Perhaps because the BBC and The Guardian don’t cover that?
