Good.

Well yes, I don't mind that they blew it, quite the reverse. I can live without seeing another Tory government for a good while! But I thought they might have learned from the Johnson days not to elect charismatic mavericks with hard right views.

Pat888 · 02/11/2024 11:40

She said something about men paying to bring up their own children (after separation) - in an article in the Sunday Times so I’m getting the flags out.

showmethegin · 02/11/2024 11:40

@Rummly She has openly stated some pretty abhorrent stuff. It's ironic that you're questioning my moral compass

Brananan · 02/11/2024 11:40

amigafan2003 · 02/11/2024 11:34

I suppose the saving grace is that she'll be nowhere near any real power for at least 4 years, although I think Labour must be thanking their lucky stars as she's more unelectable than Corbyn!

Cleverley would have been a problem for Labour.

She is definitely NOT more unelectable than Corbyn.

Rummly · 02/11/2024 11:41

Lou7171 · 02/11/2024 11:38

Agree. But I expect nothing less from MN.

Does Starmer have to declare this as a gift?

Did Lord Alli pay for her election as well as Starmer’s? Lordy, we are in an odd place.

taxguru · 02/11/2024 11:42

Absolutely brilliant. A breath of fresh air and just what the Tories need to challenge Starmer and Reeves. Unless she buggers it up, she'll be PM in five years' time. Finally some "clear blue sky" difference between the two party leaders.

Harvestfestivalknickers · 02/11/2024 11:42

I think she'll make a formidable opponent in PMQ's against Starmer.

Havanananana · 02/11/2024 11:42

cheezncrackers · 02/11/2024 11:24

Well I like her. She's a strong, eloquent woman who has a record of standing up for women.

But not when discussing maternity pay, which she thinks has "gone too far" - but which compared with much of the rest of Europe is a pittance.

3WildOnes · 02/11/2024 11:42

Lou7171 · 02/11/2024 11:27

Standing up for women? Are you kidding?

She also voted against buffer zones around abortion clinics.

1dayatatime · 02/11/2024 11:42

@SouthernFashionista
@cheezncrackers

"Well I like her. She's a strong, eloquent woman who has a record of standing up for women."

"Exactly that. As a Black woman myself I am delighted."

And she's not exactly the quiet shy type either 😁!!!

Should make for a very entertaining Prime Ministers Questions as well as ruffling quite a few feathers over the next 5 years.

greenrollneck · 02/11/2024 11:42

Won't she be too busy with her children to do this job. 😂

Brananan · 02/11/2024 11:42

Kemi Badenoch is to the right of the party, but she is not 'far right' or 'extreme right'. If she's got a good team around her she will do well. I think she will be excellent at holding Labour to account.

Suo · 02/11/2024 11:43

I have never voted conservative. Would be interested to know why she is considered to be "of the right" of the party nd to have"hard right views". From what I have seen she is a conservative who advocates for personal responsibility, small government and low regulation? Seems to be typical Tory stuff?

Peanuttyy · 02/11/2024 11:44

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 02/11/2024 11:35

In what parallel universe is a 78.2% turnout a low one?

The turnout for the GE was around 60%.

You can’t compare them. The leadership contest was postal voting and online, postal vote turnout is always higher than overall turnout at general elections. Also the electorate in the leadership contest have paid to be members of the party, therefore they should have a greater vested interest and level of engagement than the general population.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 02/11/2024 11:44

Yes, yes, she’s shite, she makes them unelectable blah de bah. I think they’re frit.

It will be interesting to see if a person accused of creating an intimidating and bullying work environment can build a good team around her.

Lou7171 · 02/11/2024 11:17

Congratulations to Labour

The esteemed Bank Manager (with an approval rating of minus 30) and his Iron Chancellor will lose the next election all by themselves. Five years of higher mortgage costs, higher food prices, higher energy costs, higher rents, low growth, economic stagnation and higher taxes will not endear this administration to the electorate.

Ah, the angry black woman tropes have started.

EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime · 02/11/2024 11:45

Fantastic result.

Lets make this shower of a Labour Govt., a one-term affair.

Yep. Their quite frankly weird budget will not have helped them.

Greyrocked · 02/11/2024 11:36

Really shocked by the comments welcoming this even further lurch to the extreme right.
It’s not good news for women.

I don’t think the extreme right means what you think it means…

Ah, the angry black woman tropes have started.

Quite, it didn't take long about half an hour

Havalona · 02/11/2024 11:45

I think her main job will be to head off the rise of Reform. Does that mean she will go further Right and introduce Reform type policies to keep the wavering Tories in the fold?

That is what I will be watching.

OonaStubbs · 02/11/2024 11:46

I think she will be a good leader. It is interesting that the Tories now have had 4 female leaders and 2 non-white and Labour haven't had any of either.

A diversity of views is always a good thing in Parliament.

KnittedMoon · 02/11/2024 11:46

Brananan · 02/11/2024 11:44

That's a reach.
