I suppose the saving grace is that she'll be nowhere near any real power for at least 4 years, although I think Labour must be thanking their lucky stars as she's more unelectable than Corbyn!

Cleverley would have been a problem for Labour.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 02/11/2024 11:34

JRSKSSBH · 02/11/2024 11:35

I am so pleased for her and for the party. Glad Robert Generic with his jet pack of personal ambition failed.

This.

Turnout amongst the party was 72.8%.
If even Conservative party members aren't motivated to vote then heaven knows how they expect the electorate to be bothered.

In what parallel universe is a 78.2% turnout a low one?

The turnout for the GE was around 60%.

Kryten1958 · 02/11/2024 11:30

Diversity?
Labour talk the talk, the Conservatives walk the walk... again.

Unless it’s disabled people. Her views on autistic people are either disgusting or ignorant. www.autism.org.uk/what-we-do/news/the-national-autistic-society-has-responded-to-kem

Nope.

Fair enough. I think people have different views of whether businesses are over regulated. I generally don't support the view, common among Tories, that regulation is inherently a bad thing, but I do agree that the overall burden of regulation (which includes maternity rights) is something to consider.

Her personal decision to resign instead of taking maternity leave was interesting. I am glad she doesn't propose to remove maternity rights, that would be disastrous for those in less financially stable relationships.

😂😂 she’s certainly not disappearing is she! Excellent work Kemi. Suck a lemon Tennant 😂

Greyrocked · 02/11/2024 11:36

Really shocked by the comments welcoming this even further lurch to the extreme right.
It’s not good news for women.

amigafan2003 · 02/11/2024 11:36

Babadookinthewardrobe · 02/11/2024 11:20

I think they have just made themselves considerably more electable by selecting Kemi.

Do you really think more than a handful of Reform voters are going to vote for a black female?

This just guarantees the right will be split for the next election cycle, handing Labour another four years.

hellesbells · 02/11/2024 11:36

showmethegin · 02/11/2024 11:26

Have I wandered into an alternate universe. She's absolutely vile. It's a bad thing for everyone that someone that holds the views she does is in parliament.

Exactly how I feel, where all this Kemi live is coming from mystifies me, she will be long gone by the next election anyway

Nikitaspearlearring · 02/11/2024 11:37

I'm also pleased for her. She seems to be the most honourable out of the last four standing. ( I know it's a low bar.) I've just been reading profiles in the Guardian of her and Jenryk. People who know Jenryk say he changes policies depending on which way the wind's blowing, but she does seen to stick to her principles. Jenryk says he'd vote for Trump if he were eligible, but OTOH it says that Badenoch was an enthusiastic Brexiteer. Oh well. So not ideal, but the best of a bad lot.

KnittedCardi · 02/11/2024 11:37

Biscuitsneeded · 02/11/2024 11:18

Well, at least now they remain utterly inelectable for the foreseeable future...

More electable than Starmer 😂

1dayatatime · 02/11/2024 11:37

@GoodGollyMsMolly

"they just elected a black, female leader because of what they believe she can deliver and not because of her identity."

Exactly and this is what should be celebrated most.

People should be judged on the content of their character and achievements and not the colour of their skin or male / female.

Sadly it is the left with DEI initiatives, victim pyramids etc that continue to judge or see based on the colour of skin or sex.

Soldiergirl99 · 02/11/2024 11:37

Fantastic news. I like her. I might even consider voting Tory again.

Bananamanlovesyou · 02/11/2024 11:37

She repulses me but I’m not quite sure why!

I didn't say it was low. I said even 28% of party members didn't bother to vote.
These are meant to be the motivated people. Many of them weren't. They obviously didn't like either option.

BIossomtoes · 02/11/2024 11:38

If she’s still leader in 2029 I’ll eat my shoes. I feel sorry for the Tory membership having that choice inflicted on them.

Agree. But I expect nothing less from MN.

Does Starmer have to declare this as a gift?

KnittedMoon · 02/11/2024 11:38

GoodGollyMsMolly · 02/11/2024 11:34

What is your definition of far right I'm curious?

Not curious enough to read what the poster actually wrote. She didn't say far right.

Brananan · 02/11/2024 11:38

I think it's fantastic to have a black woman leader and it makes Labour look a little less progressive.

Gettingbysomehow · 02/11/2024 11:39

God no, nothing to do with her colour but some of her ideas are positively psychopathic and she has zero empathy for anybody.
I won't be voting Tory any time soon.

Similar posts have been made about the Conservative Party membership, which were clearly not correct

No. Be reassured. You’re still in the same universe as everyone else. It’s just that you can only view it in an exclusionary, one-eyed way.
