Are there any other people who think we have been fed the biggest lie in regards to sovereignity of Britain.I think the current gas chrisis shows, how dependant Britain is on China and Russia and Europe.

@Zeropointzero
spelling mistake it is Rhein
Not in English which is, after all, the language we're all writing in.

Kendodd · 09/10/2021 16:59

patronising, incoherent comments such as accusing leavers of eating fish and chips in Spain create division and are one of the reasons Remain lost.

So we have been told, people voted Leave and to 'get Brexit done' because they were upset Remainers called them names. The very definition of stupidity in my book.
Next time theres a referendum, just ask yourself one question 'what would Putin want?' And whatever that thing is DON'T FUCKING VOTE FOR IT!

From a purely personal point of view, I'm enjoying the labour shortage. Walked out of one job and straight into another one...like it's the 1970's or something.

Empressofthemundane · 09/10/2021 17:07

Supply chain bottle necks and labour shortages were not caused by Brexit. They are a global phenomenon.

IpanemaPeaHen · 09/10/2021 17:11

I don’t see anyone else killing pigs for nothing?

But don’t worry we can import that lovely European pork to fill the gaps Wink

Haha. I remember in the 70s, our job centre was a room over a hairdressers with woman and a rolladex. You said what you wanted to do, she looked it up, gave you the details and off you popped. And when you signed on, they came round to the back room of the library every other Thursday. A different time. I went to the job centre in 2012 and they didn't even have a list of jobs and I was told I couldn't look for jobs there. There were 2 security guards keeping you out of the job centre!

Those poor pigs were going to die regardless. I don't suppose they'd go happier to their death knowing someone was going to eat them.
Kljnmw3459 · 09/10/2021 17:25

I'm alright tbh. EU citizen here, just need to sort my UK citizenship and I'll feel a bit more secure. DC have UK citizenship and 2 other passports so I think they'll be ok.

Wow. Different times indeed Grin

PersephoneJames · 09/10/2021 17:32

@madisonbridges no but it might’ve been nice for the farmers who raised them and spent thousands feeding them to have got a salary out of them instead of a load of unsellable carcasses, and I’m sure the average consumer would’ve preferred not to have to pay over inflated prices for the EU pork we’ve had to import to fill in the gaps.

madisonbridges · 09/10/2021 17:51

@PersephoneJames. I see what you're saying. But I watched farmers crying over their poor pigs dying an ignominious death. No tears when they're kept in inhumane farrowing crates; nor when they're loaded into a haulage van and shipped off to the abattoir; nor when abattoir workers are paid piecework, rather than an hourly rate, so in their haste pigs aren't slaughtered correctly. You've probably guessed I'm not pig farmers' greatest fan!

Zeropointzero · 09/10/2021 17:53

@madisonbridges. Blacksax wanted to show his german knowledge and wrote 2 german words in german. One of the two words he wrote is incorrect.I have to tell you in german it is Rhein. For instance in english it is Munich,in german it is München.I could go on here......However it is getting a bit tedious and my dinner is ready:Fisch und TschipsGrin

PersephoneJames · 09/10/2021 18:14

Oh absolutely @madisonbridges - I’m mostly vegetarian for animal welfare reasons, but this isn’t an animal welfare issue but an economic one. It’s like a shop having to burn its whole stock.

I didn’t see any farmers crying but the waste is upsetting, although the pigs would die anyway, when there is so much food poverty in this country, let alone the wider world. Sad

madisonbridges · 09/10/2021 18:20

I do get where you're coming from, Persephone, I really do. It's just the hypocrisy of them that gets me.
We all need to eat more lentils. Better for our health, better for the environment. 😉

I am very happy with Brexit, because the government can no longer dodge solving problems by pretending Brussels won't allow it. If it cannot solve the current supply chain problems, for instance, then we can vote it out. As you will remember, UK voters had no such power to influence or vote out the European Commission. So this is indeed restored sovereignty (which by the way you can't spell).
ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 09/10/2021 19:15

Debwong: True, only we can't vote them out because of fptp and people not doing anything about it.

Was it Marilyn Monroe who said sometimes things have to fall apart before other things can fall together.

Zeropointzero · 09/10/2021 20:17

@debwong.you are a typical brexit voter:ignorant and xenophobic.it never occurs to you, that for some people here on MN,english is not their mother language.you are most likely one of those Brits who order fish&chips in spain and expect spanish people to speak english.

OP posts:
FreshFreesias · 09/10/2021 20:24

@madisonbridges I quite agree. I’m staggered people are eating pigs in this day and age. From a pigs point of view, perhaps better being shot/slaughtered on the farm instead of being shoved on a truck for days before suffering a hideous end.
One of the reasons I am a Brexiteer is to end the live transport of animals from the UK to around the world. The EU forbade this under the Treaty of Rome as they classed animals as goods, which must be traded freely.
Such a vile trade.

You know nothing about me, and your intemperate posts show that you are the xenophobe here.

FreshFreesias · 09/10/2021 20:30

@Zeropointzero Why are you making dietary assumptions about Brexit voters?
Horrible, grubby, working class Brexit voters eat fish and chips!
How dreadfully plebeian of them!
Trouble is, the fish stocks are crashing due to those lovely, civilised EU super trawlers, scraping the sea bed and destroying marine life.
But let’s gloss over this kind of ecological disaster as it doesn’t suit the globalist corporate narrative.

madisonbridges · 09/10/2021 20:33

As a vegetarian I'm sad but I don't suppose we'll get rid of the meat trade in the near future. However, the whole process has to be humane. We should be moving to mobile abattoirs that come to the farm to cause as little trauma as possible. One thing I'm hopeful about is that Carrie Johnson is a big animal welfare activist so I really hope she presses the govt to carry through with their promise to stop live animal transportation. I did not vote Brexit but it's happened and now I'm looking forward to positives to come out of it.

Kendodd · 09/10/2021 20:45

I did not vote Brexit but it's happened and now I'm looking forward to positives to come out of it.

Actually I agree with that.
The death of the UK fishing industry and livestock farming would be a Brexit positive imo. Good for animal welfare and the environment.

Wow, OP. That comment sounded completely unhinged.

Is it just Brits, or are all nationalities reviled for ordering fish&chips in Spain? Do they have food police and are they really fierce? (Just in case I ever go).
@pokhora,

So how have investment bankers increased productivity by many hundreds of percent in the last 30 years (despite the shareholders not profiting at all)?

The same argument could be made for many areas.

Ultimately we have increased productivity (although not that much) by actually continuously paying less and less in real terms to our semiskilled and unskilled labour.

I do agree with you about some kind of universal income, though. It is just that many ‘skilled’ people believe that endless discussion in TEAMS meetings cannot be automated-they can.
I do know why, but when I read that I like the thought that investment bankers are unskilled, they probably don't think they are though.

blacksax · 09/10/2021 22:31
@blacksax.spelling mistake it is RheinThe word Bratwurst you got right, probably because it is used in the english language too.poor attempt to wanting to show, you know 2 words in german.the german heritage must be far far back in historyGrin
Not so far back. My maternal grandmother and other relatives in London changed their surname during the war to something that sounded less German so as to try and avoid persecution - not altogether successfully. Some of the wider family never changed it back again afterwards. My maternal grandfather had no such issues, as his surname had Portuguese roots.

When it comes to spelling, yes, the Germans spell Rhine as Rhein, however when one is in the UK the spelling commonly used is Rhine. Smile
