Just wondering if my last hope of the House of Lords voting against the tax credits changes has happened yet?

Ok it's Meacher's turn now...

I don't think that any amendment is going to pass. Angry

HamaTime · 26/10/2015 19:22

What's going on now?

KatharineClifton · 26/10/2015 19:23

3 more to go...

I think there's a fair chance on the Bishop's amendment.

WhyBeHappyWhenYouCouldBeNormal · 26/10/2015 19:23

not surprised the lib dem motion didn't go through.

the labour motion seemed good, no?

I've still got to catch up on doctor who and downtown abbey from the weekend.

Viviennemary · 26/10/2015 19:23

I heard on the news they were voting on three different things. One is this fatal one where it is thrown out, another put forward by some Bishop saying the Lords disapproved and another asking them to think again. What a waste of time and money the House of Lords is. But it's a bit rich that they are collecting £300 per appearance in the House of Lords and voting re money for other people. Can't we have a vote on reducing their payments.

Cassimin · 26/10/2015 19:23

The hokey kokey?

cruikshank · 26/10/2015 19:23

I would like to give bloody Osborne a fucking fatal amendment.

Have we just lost then?

WhyBeHappyWhenYouCouldBeNormal · 26/10/2015 19:25

No - we've got 4 shots here basically. I believe one will go through...

Ferocia · 26/10/2015 19:26

Not yet. More votes to go. Why is it happening at this time of night?

Fricking Guardian live feed has crashed.

PetitPiaf · 26/10/2015 19:26

Several peers have put forward amendments to the proposed regulations, which would push them back to the HoC to be redrafted. But the amendments are being rejected because they are being deemed to be fatal i.e. that if they are passed, procedurally the regulations cannot be brought before the house.

Or something Confused

Lib Dem Baroness Manzoor's "fatal" motion has been rejected by 310 to 99 votes. Peers now turn to crossbencher Baroness Meacher's motion to defer the tax credit reforms to enable the government to "think again". Once again, the House divides for a vote.

GingerIvy · 26/10/2015 19:26

That's from BBC "live updated coverage"

howtorebuild · 26/10/2015 19:26

I would like to give bloody Osborne a fucking fatal amendment.

You are not alone.

PetitPiaf · 26/10/2015 19:27

Cross posted with everyone Grin

NapoleonsNose · 26/10/2015 19:27

Me too cruikshank. Odious bastard.

cruikshank · 26/10/2015 19:28

Ah ok - thank you. But they haven't thrown it out entirely.

I don't trust that this one, even if they are content, is going to cut it. I'm sure there will be enough spin and trickery around reporting who is affected etc that if anything there will be even more support for the changes. And the more that is debated in the Commons, the more support for cuts there will be among the public.

WhyBeHappyWhenYouCouldBeNormal · 26/10/2015 19:28

actually, i'm surprised at Manzoor even getting 99, so afraid of fatal motions everyone seemed.

WhyBeHappyWhenYouCouldBeNormal · 26/10/2015 19:29

I think the concern from conservative MPs will channel change, they are concerned as they hadn't realised it would effect their 'hardworking' constituents - they will be afraid of losing their seats and this will cause rebellion.

Fantasyland · 26/10/2015 19:30

Please someone explain simply are the cuts voted for or against ? I don't get what's going on

I'm afraid that's not the question fantasyland - and they haven't decided yet.

they are asking 4 slightly different questions.

all out no was rejected, they are now voting on different suggestions for change and delay.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 26/10/2015 19:33

Fingers Crossed

PetitPiaf · 26/10/2015 19:34

I'm not optimistic...

GingerIvy · 26/10/2015 19:35

I just feel sick over this. I have never been so appalled by a government before, and that includes Thatcher. That's saying something.

PetitPiaf · 26/10/2015 19:35

Is Baroness Hollis' amendment next if this one doesn't pass?

NapoleonsNose · 26/10/2015 19:36

Me neither Petit
