When will the BBC be held accountable for their lack of patriotism

Why does this far-left propoganda group continually try to do Britain down?

Why can't they have more presenters who think like the majority of Brits - people who believe that Britain is truly great - indeed, the best country in the world.

People who believe in our institutions, who love the monarchy, who revere the military, who speak in hushed awe about the majesty of our traditions. Presenters who are over-awed by the silent beauty of our countryside, and the glory of our heritage and history. Why do they always use their sneering, supercilious, Guardianista attitude - this constant insinuation that Britain should always be taking the blame and apologising. Coincidentally, it seems to stem from the same sort of sneering middle-classery that is prevalent on MN...

The most recent, shameful episode is the Beeb trying their best to spoil the England 2018 bid. Now I have no time at all for football - I can't stand it - but I fully recognise how important it is for our economy, and also for our national psyche.

The sooner the BBC withers and dies the better. Sadly, it has gotten away with a miniscule 16% cut in the TV tax over 6 years. They will continue their ramblings for the foreseeable future.

The left accuse Chairman Mao of bias. They are liars, so their claims of bias are laughable. Even the Director General of the BBC said that in the past the BBC was guilty of massive left-wing bias. He never said anything about right-wing bias.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:40

We've done this one Claig.
It was guilty of left wing bias.
According to one man.
Twenty years ago.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:41

The fact remains that even if you don't like the BBC all the alternatives are like rubbing your face in shit.

It's like democracy - the worst option apart from all the other ones.

claig · 01/12/2010 23:42

That one man was the Director General of the BBC. He finally admitted what right wing people had been saying for years, and what left wingers like you had consistently denied, just as you now deny there is any political slant in the BBC's reporting.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:44

I'm so not doing this one over again.

poxoxo · 01/12/2010 23:44

The BBC should be made into a commercial broadcaster. Government funded tv and radio should be consigned to history

claig · 01/12/2010 23:45

There's teh Huw Wheldon lecture on science on BBC2 at the moment. A Goldacre clip was on about MMR, and the scientist tells us that Durkin's programme about teh global warming swindle is "total bollocks". I doubt Durkin will get a right of reply.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:45

I only came here to attack longingernails bucolic fantasy.

Tortington · 01/12/2010 23:45

longfingernails, by god you are good value!

claig · 01/12/2010 23:47

Why do you think that the BBC will never be privatised? Who gains by a state controlled broadcaster? How else will all the "climate science" now on BBC2 get airtime.

DuelingFanio · 01/12/2010 23:48

what?! Confused

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:48

Their is a fundamental misunderstanding of the purpose of the BBC. It is to give commercial broadcasters something to benchmark themselves against and a standard to aspire to. They all fail to meet it's standards, but in striving improve themselves.

Thee BBC is basically Jesus for broadcasters.

Ergo - if you don't like it your in league with Satan.

claig · 01/12/2010 23:48

Did Chairman Mao have a state controlled broadcaster? Does the United States have a state controlled broadcaster?

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:49

Ooh I came over all Felix da Housecat there.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:51

State controlled broadcasters

China under Chairman Mao - probably .

USA - No.

UK - No.

claig · 01/12/2010 23:51

Isn't the BBC a state broadcaster?

PrincessFiorimonde · 01/12/2010 23:53

Coalition, if you want to be 'whacked in the face with a stupid stick', you should try Channel 5 News.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:53

State funded yes. Controlled no.

I find it difficult how you can claim that the BBC is both State controlled AND left wing under a right wing government.

We're not Italy for fucks sake.

TechLovingDad · 01/12/2010 23:54

Claig, Channel 4 seems to be the place for the climate change broadcasts.

I daresay Chairman Mao did have a state broadcaster. The US has FOX news, so doesn't need one.

I do love claig and longfingernails idea that if you don't agree with monarchy / war / bullshit you aren't patriotic. Get thee to UKIP or the BNP.

claig · 01/12/2010 23:54

Isn't it allocated funds out of our taxation? Aren't the £1 million pound newscasters paid out of the people's taxes? Don't the proles face the threat of imprisonment if they don't pay the licence fee?

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:56

PrincessFiorimonde - Channel 5s output doesn't reach the level of 'news'.

TechLovingDad · 01/12/2010 23:57

Why does left wing = unpatriotic?

claig · 01/12/2010 23:57

I didn't say " if you don't agree with monarchy / war / bullshit you aren't patriotic". I think that there are numerous examples where the BBC does have a left wing slant. The Director General of teh BBC admitted thatthe BBC had "massive left-wing bias" against Thatcher. Thatcher wasn't able to change that. It was not that easy to change the slant of the BBC, because the Director Genral said that it was "massive".

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:58

ANYWAY

EVEN if the BBC was a front for the Red Army Faction it's a small price to pay for documenties about synthesisers on mainstream channels in daytime.

TechLovingDad · 01/12/2010 23:59

Thatcher was re-elected so the BBCs "bias" hardly affected her career, did it?
