When will the BBC be held accountable for their lack of patriotism

Why does this far-left propoganda group continually try to do Britain down?

Why can't they have more presenters who think like the majority of Brits - people who believe that Britain is truly great - indeed, the best country in the world.

People who believe in our institutions, who love the monarchy, who revere the military, who speak in hushed awe about the majesty of our traditions. Presenters who are over-awed by the silent beauty of our countryside, and the glory of our heritage and history. Why do they always use their sneering, supercilious, Guardianista attitude - this constant insinuation that Britain should always be taking the blame and apologising. Coincidentally, it seems to stem from the same sort of sneering middle-classery that is prevalent on MN...

The most recent, shameful episode is the Beeb trying their best to spoil the England 2018 bid. Now I have no time at all for football - I can't stand it - but I fully recognise how important it is for our economy, and also for our national psyche.

The sooner the BBC withers and dies the better. Sadly, it has gotten away with a miniscule 16% cut in the TV tax over 6 years. They will continue their ramblings for the foreseeable future.

The BBC's one of the few things that makes me proud to be british...

EdgarAllenSnow · 01/12/2010 23:03

the Beeb is one of those institutions to be proud of LFN

and a critical perspective hekps a country stay great.

claig · 01/12/2010 23:03

I think we will win the bid and the BBC programme was deliberate and part of winning it. It's all theatre, that's why everybody sat back with their arms folded and allowed Panorama to go ahead.

longfingernails · 01/12/2010 23:05

The BBC used to be something to be proud of (though it has always been far to the left).

Now it is little more than the Guardian on TV. I'm not suprised left-wingers adore it so much.

OP posts:
claig · 01/12/2010 23:06

The Guardian is also theatre to fool its naive readers. None of it is real. That's why the Guardian urged its readers to vote for Clegg. It's a game.

PrincessFiorimonde · 01/12/2010 23:06

Personally, I can't stand that Nick Robinson on the BBC. He's so left-wing; he might as well be Robert Peston.

RobynLou · 01/12/2010 23:08

I didn't appreciate the BBC until I spent some time living in America, as with every huge organisation it has it's flaws, but overall it's a wonderful asset.

PamelaFlitton · 01/12/2010 23:09

Patriotism? How quaint.

Lilymaid · 01/12/2010 23:12

The BBC is one of the few national institutions that I am proud of (apart from the John Lewis Partnership!)
Perhaps the OP hasn't noticed BBC coverage of such events as Remembrance Sunday/Royal occasions - hardly sneering, supercilious etc.
Britain isn't the best country in the world - there are other good States but I'm glad to live in a country where I'm able to disagree vehemently with the OP!

claig · 01/12/2010 23:19

The Guardian's headline tomorrow is "Inside Putin's mafia state". Just as the vote for the World Cup bid is about to be announced.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:20

The BBC broadcast a documentrey at 2pm yesterday (or the day before, I forget) about the guys who built the synthesiser used on Stevie Wonders classic albums.

This is EXACTLY what I pay my license fee for.

claig · 01/12/2010 23:22

Yes but I think longfingernails is talking about a political slant, not the non-political stuff the BBC produces.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:23

Claig - that would be the World Cup that Putin's not going to the announcment of because he knows he's going to lose?

TechLovingDad · 01/12/2010 23:23

Longfingernails, is your post for real?

Really?

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:25

There isn't a slant to the bbc's coverage, and patriotism is for cunts.

claig · 01/12/2010 23:25

'Claig - that would be the World Cup that Putin's not going to the announcment of because he knows he's going to lose?'

Exactly. The deal is done. It was a team effort, and the BBC were on side.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:26

idiots.

tethersjinglebellend · 01/12/2010 23:26

Am I the only one who thinks the BBC is too far to the right? Confused

LFN, I am now more convinced than ever that you work for the Labour party Wink

claig · 01/12/2010 23:26

'There isn't a slant to the bbc's coverage'

then you must be left wing

harpsichordcarrier · 01/12/2010 23:27

propaganda

popelle · 01/12/2010 23:32

I think the bbc should be privatised, I don't think a state broadcaster has any place in the modern media and its an unecessary expense

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:32

Instisutions - valuable as long as they serve the purpose they were created for. No inherent worth,

Monarchy - The vestigial rump of a discredited political system. Possibly some heritage value.

Military - You don't REVERE the people entrusted to wield lethal force on behalf of the state. You respect them as those prepared to take on the responsibility of a necessary evil and to take the risks it entails.

Countryside - Well yes some of it is quite pretty. But to be honest, we don't really have the biggest or most impressive of anything. We do have a lot of variety though.

Heritage and History - A mix or realpolitic, naked opportunism, idealism and progress. To describe it as glorious is disingenuous at best and a lie at worst. 'Good in parts'.

PrincessFiorimonde · 01/12/2010 23:33

Ooh, and if the BBC would only bring itself to 'love the monarchy', we might have had wall-to-wall coverage (on TV and radio) of that recent lovely royal engagement. And the BBC might even be planning to spend many, many hours covering events such as the royal wedding!

And if the BBC would only let itself 'revere the military', we might have daily coverage of what's going on in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Also, if the BBC could 'speak in hushed awe about the majesty of our traditions', it might just have covered events such as what's going on in Parliament. It might cover Prime minister's question time every week, for example (on both TV and radio). It might even present a nightly round-up of 'Today in Parliament' (on Radio 4). And it might report on the many and various trips abroad conducted by both politicos and royals.

As for 'the Beeb trying their best to spoil the England 2018 bid' - no, indeed, Radio 5 Live did not of course spend hours today running interviews with a certain David Beckham talking about that very same bid.

Things have come to a sorry state.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:34

I think the fact that the BBC is accused of bias by both the left and the right is a sign of it's neutrality.

Both sides are threatened by people who examine facts rather than rhetoric.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/12/2010 23:36

Have you SEEN ITV news?

It's like being whacked in the face with a stupid stick for 30 minutes.
