A lovely new thread to continue counting our blessings.

Everyone is welcome, of any faith or none at all. Just drop by to pause for a moment and think of what has made you smile or has gone well for you, however small it seems.

the weekend - welcome restand time to mess about on here, and might go to a concert this evening
music
blue skies (can see through the window even if it looks a bit cold to actually go out!)
dd who is at home (with a cold but still lovely company) whilst the boys are out (birdwatching and band)
friends - online and in general x
that the days are very, very slowly and imperceptibly getting longer, brighter, and warmer (with occasional blips on the warmth one!) towards spring and summer Thanks (there's an optimist in there somewhere trying to get out Grin)

minkGrundy · 17/01/2015 18:39

They have their moments annunziata

Right now they are snuggled up on a heap together watching tv. But earlier they were hitting each other and screeching at full volume.

Today's gratitudes
Painkillers that got rid of my splitting head
cycling with dd2 (we don't often get time alone)
Long lie
soup
good result at the football

irishe · 17/01/2015 23:47

Gratitudes for today

Watching my 3 year old through the door, of her pre school music class, sitting happily clapping and singing, made my heart swell with love.

Having friends to make soft play more bearable

My DH without whom I would have been late for both above events.

Annunziata · 18/01/2015 12:59

Right now they are snuggled up on a heap together watching tv. But earlier they were hitting each other and screeching at full volume.

Grin Sounds great!

I hate soft play too irishe. I thought I was free of the place and then DD3 came along!

grateful
pretty clothes
salt and grit
my team of boys to clear the snow!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 18/01/2015 16:43

Grateful for ....

fresh lychees
egg custard pudding
milk for my hot tea Brew

tbh It's been a bit of a dull day today (highlight was an afternoon trip round LIDL as you might be able to guess from the above) .... but getting good enough at gratitudes (slowly becomes a habit doesn't it?) to see there's something to be thankful for in a dull day ie. no crisis, all is well.
And there are always those nice little extras to notice too, like my lychees Smile

KinkyDorito · 18/01/2015 18:01

I've just stood and made some biscuits, then rustled up tea. When I was doing it, I looked at everything spread out on the worktop and felt incredibly blessed and grateful for the food we have, the abundance.

I am also grateful for my family and friends (I don't have many, but value the ones I have).

I'm feeling quite tired and run down, don't know if it's from last week or because I'm getting DH's lurgy. I am grateful for vitamins to boost my immunity and clean drinking water too - trying to fight back Grin!

stressedHEmum · 18/01/2015 19:10

I'm so glad our wee thread is busy and am grateful for all the new friendSmile

We had our mission partner visiting Church today. He works in Nepal, primarily in raising awareness of issues surrounding HIV. SO I am grateful for the work of missionaries everywhere, working with the poor, marginalised and disenfranchised.

We also had a lovely lunch after the service which I and the other ladies on my wee outreach committee made. SO I am thankful for hot homemade soup, delicious sandwiches and lovely cake. Also for honest, cheerful labour and service in good company.

AM very grateful for shelter and central heating

Haven't visited this thread for a week, but I'm going to try and come here more often to reflect on my gratitudes...
Today...grateful for

  • laughter with DS
  • making up with DH after a falling out
  • a beautiful sunny day
Smile
irishe · 19/01/2015 22:34

Annunziata soft play is definitely one of the burdens of parenthood!

Gratitudes for today

First visit to pre school nursery went well, think I was more stressed than dd.
Last day of chemo for lovely MIL, onwards to the next stage
Thankful to DH for getting up at 5am to look after early riser dd, whilst I slept.

minkGrundy · 19/01/2015 22:53

irishe hope your MIL is coping with the chemo. It can be grim.

Gratitudes:
Buses
Hot toddies
Sense of humour
Dcs getting themselves dressed
Longer days/brighter mornings and snow covered hills

irishe · 19/01/2015 23:15

Thanks mink it has been hard.

KinkyDorito · 20/01/2015 20:30

Pleased chemo has finished for your MIL irishe. Sending much love Thanks.

We are a house of trauma again. DD fell over and really hurt herself, so two days off work with her, DH has now arrived home with what appears to be rapidly becoming the flu. I just hope it doesn't snow tonight as I have to drive DD literally to the door of her school in the morning so she can go (she still can't walk properly) and then get to work myself.

I sometimes wonder if people think I make my life up because so many ridiculous things happen to us...

Anyway, grateful for some peace to make a plan for the house today.
Grateful for over the counter remedies and painkillers.
Grateful for my family and hope they all get better soon.

irishe · 21/01/2015 00:32

Gratitudes for today

No tears (apart from mine) as dd waved merrily goodbye to me on her first full session at nursery
Thankful for a good friend who understood the strange sense of loss I was experiencing at having a child free afternoon
Despite strange sense of loss, I did perk up and managed to enjoy drinking 2 cups of hot tea, uninterrupted by a little person. I had forgotten that tea was not meant to be drunk lukewarm/cold.

stressedHEmum · 21/01/2015 11:09

irishe, hope all is well with your MIL, glad the chemo is over, it's awful.

Kinky, poor DD, I hope she's OK. A Poor DH. Everything seems to go wrong at once, doesn't it. I will say a wee prayer for strength for you.

gratitudes -

central heating
DH managed to get a day off work to take DS2 back to uni today.
Food bank continues to help people in crisis. We had a young couple in yesterday, they weren't much older than about 16 and they were living in a short stay hostelSad It's heartbreaking.
