Salaam sisters

I just spent 20 minutes on a post, addressing and welcoming everyone and it disappeared. I don't have the energy to write it all out again but welcome to all the new sisters, it's great to see you here.

My fasts are getting easier alhamdullilah. I'll try and come back on tomorrow and re write the essay I just lost!

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 10/07/2014 22:46

Salaam crescent and others
I have surprised myself too but I can't imagine not doing ramadan now. I hope your soup was delicious! The egg is not necessary, I don't usually put one in.

littleducks · 10/07/2014 22:50

I'm in two minds about linking to this. But maybe somebody might have some practical suggestions for the OP?

Hello everyone. I'm seeking advice on a matter of etiquette. I'm a Christian, and my daughter's best friend is a Moslem. Her mum has kindly invited the children and me to an Iftar meal. I'm really touched and the kids are excited about getting to stay up late! I wanted to ask Moslem sisters if I should take anything by way of a contribution to the food (and/or a present of some other kind - I'd normally take a bottle of wine to a meal, but that would clearly not be appropriate....) My friend of course says, "Just bring yourselves!" :-D but would like to do the right thing... What would you do?

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 11/07/2014 09:53

Hi nan
We had my bro and SIL for Iftar last night, they brought dates and nice juice. I'd suggest something similar, a box of chocolates, some Indian sweets or baklava or something like that.

NanFlanders · 11/07/2014 09:59

Thanks Ehric! That sounds good.

littleducks · 11/07/2014 10:44

I agree I would take something sweet that keeps (so could be eaten then and there or later if hosts wanted)

greeneggsandjam · 11/07/2014 19:53

Cartons of juice would be helpful I'm sure!

Salaam everyone.

Its coming towards time for iftar so am going to make it quick.

peaceful that hadith is quite awesome that you posted. Will try to post one at some point too inshallah.

nan thats really thoughtful of you. I would take something sweet or juice. Hope you enjoy the iftar.

A big wave to everyone and have a lovely iftar tonight to the fasting sisters and have a lovely evening to the non-fasting sisters. Smile

Will catch up again.

Miffyfan · 13/07/2014 13:47

Very quiet here!

Half way through Ramadhan already Alhamdulillah. Always goes faster than you think it will.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the fasts.

I found the research really interesting that fasting does not harm a pregnant woman or the baby. It is the barakah of Allah that this form of worship is safe. I wonder why some many GPs and doctors are so discouraging of pregnant and breast feeding women fasting when the research in the British Journal of Midwifery has proved it is safe?

I have signed up for Productive Muslim emails. They send a 2 minute lecture each day and it is full of helpful tips and ideas. That is where I got the power nap idea from!

Crescent, the post I spent ages writing but lost had a piece about Gaza in it, it seems to be everywhere at the moment, or more what's going on in Israel rather than Palestine. Some of the images from Gaza are horrific and a few have made me cry. I pray for peace for our brothers and sisters of Palestine.

I just came on to share a random act of kindness I experienced today from a brother.

I was in a taxi with the dc and dd1 quite often will sit and recite to herself, she started reading ayat al-kursi over and over, which them prompted dd2 to start as well. When we got home I paid the driver, he then turned around to dd1 and said her recitation was beautiful and perfect and he gave both dd's half of the fare each. I was so thankful and touched and it made the girls' day. They put the money straight in their money boxes.

I was starting to lose faith in the human race tbh, and then this of kindness gives me that hope back. Jazakallah khair to the taxi driver.

So my Hadith of the day -

The Prophet (SAW) said:

“Allah is Kind and He loves kindness. Kindness is not to be found in anything but that it adds to its beauty.”

(Sahih Muslim)

Sorry my spelling was appalling in my last post Sad

I like this hadith:

The Prophet ? said: “Be satisfied with what Allah has apportioned for you and you will be the richest of people.” (Narrated by Ahmad and Al-Tirmidhi)

Elusive · 14/07/2014 16:12

Salaam all.

I am really struggling with whats happening in Palestine at the moment. Our government has backed Israel. What can we do to stop this oppression?

How do i switch off?

BBC coverage is ridiculous. I feel helpless.

LostHasBeenFound · 14/07/2014 16:23

I think we all do elusive, it's just dreadful.

I think there's a demonstration outside the bbc due to happen at some point.

Some of the pictures I've seen will be engrained in me forever, and you're right crescent, after seeing the evidence how can we not give anything to those in need. How, if asked by Allah can we explain ourselves out of that one? We can't.

I too don't understand how all these rich people can sit back and do nothing. How can you have billions in the bank and not wipe out the famine in Africa? Facebook shares alone could wipe out world poverty. What is this world coming to? They're all signs that the day of judgement is upon us.
