swampster DS had dreadful results on his recent blood test and wasn't getting better, so his GP wanted him seen again at Children's Hospital. More blood taken ...

ilove - so sorry to hear babybama [fabbo name] has troubles.

soon2befamilyof4 · 05/03/2009 22:29

I can't work out how to order this free nappy? I have looked on the website but can't see anything?!?

I got 6 size 1 lollipop nappies today which are abslolutly lovely and soft! But I can't work out which ones they are from the website? (I got these from freecycle!). I have looked and there are 2-3 different types they could be? It says they are 100% pollyester but still can't work that out from the site? They have a booster with each of them too. All soooo soft and fluffy - they are brand new! They feel like fleece - that won't dye will it?

Anybody ever heard of "little rippers" nappies?

Are you talking about the free pop-in, soon? The offer ended AGES ago but the first pop-ins have only just started arriving.

treedelivery · 05/03/2009 22:41

If my pop in arrives I'll declare myself emotionally improved and mentally safer. That would be so way cool if it arrived.

dd2 [the force of nature] is lying here with a leaking nappy. Lollipop micro with a fuzi bunz as a wrap. Been on for 6 hours to be fair.....

Fuzibunz make ace wraps on little newbie babies I have learnt.

Swampster - 4 just said that she got a letter in with her nappy this morning saying there were loads left and to tell all her friends and family? Was it not the same offer she was talking about? . She then went on to say to go to the close website and follow the links but I couldn't see any? Sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick!

swampster · 06/03/2009 09:08

Here is the free pop-in link telling you the offer is over

cyteen · 06/03/2009 09:10

tree I couldn't interest you in 3 more Fuzzis, could I?

thebluefoxategreensocks · 06/03/2009 09:30

Yay, I got my PopIn today!!! Just plain white, but a brand new nappy (I never buy new nappies! LOL)! Such a huge box to send a tiny nappy - but was exciting to open!

The letter does say they have more and to tell your friends, but the letter is dated the 22nd of January - so might be why it's now over, tho letter says differently.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 06/03/2009 09:37

rachel mine had a discount code in the letter, but think I recycled it along with the massive cardboard box!

Will somebody talk wool with me? I want to get started on wool at night because we are still using disposables at night which we really want to stop now. But I don't really have any good night nappies and have run out of funds . Unless somebody buys the nappies I have for sale, I can't buy any more! The only nappy I have suitable for night time is a minki, although I have another on the way so might even be able to do nights with just those for now. I have just bought some decent inserts for them so just got to wash them a few more times (in second wash now).

But anyway, I have the usual daytime nappies, pockets, ME, tots, nappy nation, prefolds, AIOS etc but I don't think any of these would cut it over night, even under wool?

With regards to wool - if I managed to knit some (don't even know how to knit but thinking about making the most of my bad back by seeing if the internet can teach me?) Can I just use any old wool? I know my mum used to have a whole box of random wool (she is a big hoarder) but they are all just random stuff, probably from car boots? Will that do if she still has it? Or does it need to be specic?

Are "longies" just like trousers? If I had some of them, do I just put that directly over a nappy, with no wrap, and this would be her PJ bottoms? Sorry to sound so thick!

TheLadyEvenstar · 06/03/2009 10:10

soon2 are u on msn, or aim?

soon2befamilyof4 · 06/03/2009 10:15

Can't work it out? Do you still have my email? Thats the one I use for msn if you have still got it?

TheLadyEvenstar · 06/03/2009 10:17

Done!

soon2befamilyof4 · 06/03/2009 10:55

Just wanted to confirm the free nappies are definaly all gone - I emailed them last night to check and just got a reply to say they are def gone.

I have a 10% off code if anybody is interested?

I want to buy a close baby carrier but can't afford £50!!!

soon2befamilyof4 · 06/03/2009 12:56

Does anybody have an idea how much it would cost to post 1 kushies AIO nappy? How do you all work it out? I don't want to go to the post office just to ask as it is a mission to get to ours and long ques etc.

rusmum · 06/03/2009 13:15

weigh onkitchen scales and go to buy postage online- you can find out postage by weight then- will be between 95p and £1.63 maximum!

swampster · 06/03/2009 13:16

About £1.50 2nd class - takes same time as 1st IMO - get proof of postage and you are covered up to £28 (I think).

rusmum · 06/03/2009 13:23

soonto posted sandys today- please let me know when they arrive safely!!

4andnotout · 06/03/2009 14:05

I think i have put the letter in the bin but it definately said there were more nappies available Since i signed up to it i have been spammed far more than usual...russian bride anyone???

Hopefully · 06/03/2009 14:21

Soon2be I haven't actually used my wool through the night yet (only finished knitting them the other day, so got to do a few more lanolisings yet!), so probably someone will come along who knows more, but here's my brief run down of things I've learnt:

  • Wool can be in the form of a wrap, shorties (woollen shorts) or longies (woollen trousers)
  • Wool allows moisture to evaporate, meaning the nappy lasts a lot longer before getting sodden. Wool is naturally antibacterial and water resistant, so will be fine to reuse for several weeks before washing as long as it is aired between uses (i.e. put on an airer during the day and used at night, or vice versa)
  • It can be bought (quite expensive), knitted (cheaper, but requires time) or sewn from recycled woollen jumpers (less skill required than knitting, think success rates vary) - patterns for knitting/recycling available on various websites
  • Before surviving over night your wool will need lanolising at least 3 times (soaking in water with lanolin dissolved in it - instructions available online), possibly more depending on what kind of wool it is
  • the best wool for knitting is apparently Blue Faced Leicester Aran weight, but you can use other weights and wools as long as they are soft and at least 80% pure animal (sheep, alpaca, goat) wool
  • You can use acrylic wool but it will work like a fleece soaker (need washing after every use, can be less good than pure wool) rather than every couple of weeks like pure wool.
  • Wool will work much better than PUL over the nappies you've listed (because moisture evaporates rather than saturating the nappy), but whether they'll survive the night depends on how wet your DC is.
  • There are loads of knitting tutorials on youtube and knitting help that should help you, and links to various knitting/recycling patterns on the wool board on cnt
Hopefully · 06/03/2009 14:24

Oh, and

  • yes, you put them straight over the nappy, no wrap, so it wouldn't work over an AIO
  • there's no reason not to use a mixture of yarns, as long as they are at least 80% wool, roughly the same weight and you allow for any differences in weight while knitting
soon2befamilyof4 · 06/03/2009 15:55

It isn't that it is lots of different ones, it is more that I have no idea what type they are or anything? Is there any way of telling of you have no label?

Thanks rusmum. Will let you know when they arrive.

I got another bumgenious through the post today and a second minki pocket.

I bought some bamboo inserts that I hope to use at night in a minki pocket - I have washed them twice so far, will this be enough for daytime use? I know it won't be full absorbancy but maybe it would be ok in the daytime till it has been washed a bit more? I just hate washing clean stuff when I have dirty stuff to do! And I have dying to get on with too!!
