Do we have an OU support thread and if not, shall we?

Cos studying with the OU, esp around kids, is soooooo hard

I am preparing to do S205 (The Molecular World). I cannot get my head around thermodynamics. I need about 2 hours just to sit with NO DISTRACTIONS but between 3 HE'd kids and a partner who works daft hours I am not getting a chance.

Also I cannot for the life of me remember WHY I am doing this

i'm strating a masters after crimbo. worried about lack of time and over-taxing brain cell.
seemed like a good idea

Fillyjonk · 03/12/2008 16:12

I did OU a good few years ago, and god alone knows how you ladies fit it in with children, and I know some even work as well, well hats off to all of you, and you deserve something real good at the end of it all.

I'm feeling all nostalgic now. Finished my last course in October. Now waiting on results

MadreInglese · 03/12/2008 16:17

Hi Fillyjonk, I'll join you soon for grumping and stressing, my next course starts in Feb, ED209 Child Psychology.

needmorecoffee · 03/12/2008 16:17

neuroscience.

TheFallenMadonna · 03/12/2008 16:18

And that's one of the courses I did MadreInglese! Blimey, three years ago

MadreInglese · 03/12/2008 16:25

LOL, small world, also did DD100 (Intro to Psychology) and just done DSE212 (Exploring Psychology). Fingers crossed for your results FallenMadonna!

Fillyjonk · 03/12/2008 16:32

is that with the OU nmc? I've been struggling for decent MSc options with them, tbh.

good luck on results fm!

my first degree was shared honours with psychology (scottish system, funnt terminology) and god, child psychology, was just amazingly devoid of common sense . I remember the parents on the course going wtf a lot (edinburgh though not OU)

thyis is D821. I liked the masters cos later courses are about brain damage. A personal interest of mine

Fillyjonk · 03/12/2008 16:54

oh that one looks interesting nmc!

I am resigned to having to do an MSc at a bricks and mortar uni to get lab experience but have NO IDEA how I will do this .

ok I can either spend half an hour studying or mooch around on the "AIBU" threads, with bloody Winnie the Pooh in the background.

I know what I should do . It is SO hard to concentrate.

I doing a businessy one

I have done virtually no work as I have been poorly

I am panicking a bit

leothelioness · 09/12/2008 01:34

This thread is a great idea. I love the courses I have done with the OU but as I can't go to tutorials it get quite isolating at times when it feel I am the only one ont there struggling to fit it all in I am doing a 10 pointer at the moment just to keep my brain ticking over before I stat S204 biology at the end of Jan.
I am also a notorious time waster and delay assignments and stuff and blame it on having 2 preschoolers and a dh who travels way too much but most of the time it is a matter of just getting down to it and not losing concentration.

Good luck everyone

goodasgoldfrankincenceandmyrhh · 09/12/2008 01:41

Katiemac are you doing the accountacy one?

I don't find them hard this time of year, this is when I miss them and sign up for another year.

Waiting on results now.

MadreInglese · 09/12/2008 10:03

Well I've just paid for mine this week so no getting out of it now!

redwino · 11/12/2008 15:43

Hello, thought I'd join in on this one as I found out today that I have just passed my first course! Only 10 points and 250 to go but it's a start.
Hoping for a degree in Environmental Studies, one day.

leothelioness · 11/12/2008 23:47

congrats redwino the fist course is always abig step to getting there. if you want a environmental sciences named degree you will need 350 more points not 250. Good luck

redwino · 12/12/2008 13:05

Oops , yes I know its 350 more points, that was a typo.

MarsLady · 13/12/2008 09:39

I'll throw my hat into the ring.

I just passed my French course so that's another 30 points.

I'm currently doing Advanced Creative Writing and as long as I pass this I'll have my Literature degree in the summer.

The OU is rather addictive and I'm already thinking ahead to a Masters. I must be crazy. I have 5 children and am a doula. I've worked out that I'll be doing my Masters whilst DS1 is doing his A levels and DD1 is doing her GCSE.

Capricasix - i know what you mean about the escapism. I am completely addicted to studying now and get really put out if I have to give up study time for some reason.
My target is to get a degree befor my DD goes to Uni. She's 13 now so that should give me time!

frannikin · 16/12/2008 21:16

I've just registered for S250, science in context. Someone tell me I'm mad?

It looks really interesting and I've been umming and ahhing for ages. Except now I've done it and I'm panicking that I won't be able to cope with level 2 and should just sit at level 1 for a bit....

Why did I decide I needed a science degree instead of the perfectly good music one I already have?!
