Do we have an OU support thread and if not, shall we?

Cos studying with the OU, esp around kids, is soooooo hard

I am preparing to do S205 (The Molecular World). I cannot get my head around thermodynamics. I need about 2 hours just to sit with NO DISTRACTIONS but between 3 HE'd kids and a partner who works daft hours I am not getting a chance.

Also I cannot for the life of me remember WHY I am doing this

have had to ask for an extension as a funeral / ill ds have derailed me.... haven't even started it. not really enjoying book 2, think the subject matter is interesting but they've managed to make it a bit vague and rambling...

MarsLady · 22/05/2009 17:00

It's done! Now in the hands of the OU Milton Keynes.

juneybean · 22/05/2009 22:18

Well done juneybean! Does that mean you'll get your results in August as well?

juneybean · 24/05/2009 12:08

Yep! I can't wait to find out!

ellingwoman · 24/05/2009 12:14

So pleased for you all!

My ECA is due in on Friday (E123) and haven't written one word . I keep putting it off. I've made such heavy going of the whole course although have thoroughly enjoyed the study topics. I'm just not good at pacing myself.

MK here we come 11.59p.m. Friday.....

leothelioness · 24/05/2009 12:22

good luck with your ECA elling.

ellingwoman · 24/05/2009 12:50

Thank you. I aim to be off Mumsnet in 10 mins and seriously start at 1.00. After a cup of tea of course. Oh may as well have lunch first. Right - definitely start by 4.00 and work right through until 10.00. Yes. Good.

MarsLady · 24/05/2009 15:09

elling... I recognise myself in you!

Mine was a train to MK by 1pm last Friday. I worked through the night on Thursday (missing my salsa sob!!!!!!!!!!!) then waking early, throwing (literally) children into school then back to finish proofing, commentary writing, printing (3 copies) and dashing to train. All to be home in time to cook tea, open a LARGE bottle and collapsing on the couch wondering how I'm now supposed to fill the time. lol

ellingwoman · 24/05/2009 16:44

I have been working! Well - making notes, no actual word count as such.

Mars - am completely in awe of you finishing. And there's me just hoping for my first 30 points...

Apart from working I have booked us into the Premier Inn in MK for Friday night and we are going to shop till we drop the next day and visit friends up there. DP is wondering if all ECAs are going to be this expnsive

juneybean · 24/05/2009 17:49

Ooo ellingwoman that's what I've just completed (E123 and E124).

Are you going on to do E124 in October?

ellingwoman · 24/05/2009 19:02

Wow! I could never have done both together!

Yes, I am going to start E124 in October providing I can get funded by county again. Did you know they've now combined E123 and E124 into one 60-point course called E100 because they felt a lot of it overlapped?
Did you find yourself repeating the same thing in your ECAs? Some of my tutor group who did both found it diffcult to think of different things to say! I think I have to apply for E100 but I can carry forward the work I have already done, and decline the course materials for the part that refers to E123. Something like that anyway.

I'm not sure if I'm going to continue after that - my family don't think they can take the angst

juneybean · 24/05/2009 19:23

I did feel that had I been able, I could have easily linked my ECA's to both material from E123 and E124. So I am not surprised they are combining it.

I only did it to gain the Level 4 qualification :D

So pleased to be rid of it though!!!

ellingwoman · 25/05/2009 10:46

Right. New day, new timetable.

MON - part 1
TUES - part 2
WED - part 3
THURS - part 4
FRI - proof, reference, check covered all bases, deliver
SAT - relax

I'm just going to check active convos till 11.00 then start....

MarsLady · 25/05/2009 16:04

How's part 1 coming along elling?

ellingwoman · 25/05/2009 17:05

Wellll...

I haven't actually written any words yet, I'm still collecting my thoughts . In my mind I can see how part 1 is going to pan out so possibly will get most of it down on paper tonight. 750 words. Doable???

Depends on 1) no interesting MN threads and 2) how much I get done before Britain's Got Talent starts.

Porbably need to work on my priorities!

MarsLady · 25/05/2009 18:26

Okay... you can either refresh active convos OR you can watch Britains Lack of Talent! Entirely up to you.

CHOOSE ONLY ONE! [stern look]

ellingwoman · 25/05/2009 21:06

errrrrrrrrrr

Look. I've managed 1000 words. All rubbish and no refs as yet but still. Can I do both? Can I? Can I?

MarsLady · 26/05/2009 01:12

No! [even sterner look]

ellingwoman · 26/05/2009 22:17

I compromised tonight. I watched BGT as well as working but I didn't post on the BGT thread.

New timetable as have only done half of part 1 -
WED - 1500 words (ok as have about 500 proper already)
THURS - 1500 words
FRI - ref, photocopy etc

Panicking oh so very slightly now ....

leothelioness · 27/05/2009 02:56

oh elling I do this its awful I have to e-mail an assignment by midnight tomorrow and have so far the grand total or 200 words for an 800 word essay and have not even lookied at the 10 short questions yet + I am movign in 10 days and AAAARRRGGGGHHHH (ok now I am panicking) now if anyone see me on MN for the next 36 hours give me kick up the arse and tell me to get off MN and do some work.

By the way good luck again I am sure you will finish on time just stay off MN.

ellingwoman · 27/05/2009 11:08

Good luck leo!!

Am starting NOW...

juneybean · 27/05/2009 11:35

Come on EW! You can do it!!

leothelioness · 27/05/2009 15:20

How are you getting on elling? I have just finished my essay now the short question to go.

ellingwoman · 27/05/2009 16:22

Just having a cuppa.....

I'm plodding through part 2 trying to incorporate the terms 'possibility thinking' and 'scaffolding' so it looks like I use them in every day speech and I'm not trying TOO hard
