Do we have an OU support thread and if not, shall we?

Cos studying with the OU, esp around kids, is soooooo hard

I am preparing to do S205 (The Molecular World). I cannot get my head around thermodynamics. I need about 2 hours just to sit with NO DISTRACTIONS but between 3 HE'd kids and a partner who works daft hours I am not getting a chance.

Also I cannot for the life of me remember WHY I am doing this

Nothing that could be useful in my next TMA Feel really disheartened but ahh such is life!

Molesworth · 20/03/2009 09:57

Aww I'm sorry JB

I'm in my fourth year now and I've found that OU study has been much more of a test of determination and endurance than academic skills tbh. My proudest moments have not been getting good marks, but managing to keep going. It will be worth it though, so I hope you can grit your teeth and keep going.

leothelioness · 24/03/2009 03:23

JB sorry to hear that you did not get much constructive advise from your tutor if you have any questions regarding what you can do to improve your mark etc you can drop your tutor a line maybe they can help by providing some more advise. Anyway chin up anything above 40 is a pass right!
I agree with moles about it being more determination and juggling rl with OU studies than just purely academic studies. This my 4th year too and time flies by hopefully in a couple more years (just as my ds2 starts school) I will be the very proud owner of a Bsc.

JB Don't feel too disheartened. What course are you studying?

I just collected my tma for child development and am not happy. I passed which is good but my tutor has given me no decent feedback at all. It's all negative. My confidence has now hit the floor and I've sent her an email asking that her fb in future be a little more constructive, otherwise could she please not comment at all.

Second essay for childhood needs to be in Friday, have done nothing for it. Dd came down with bronchiolitis (sp?) last week - oh the fun, am shattered and need to do some work.

Gah!

pumpkinsoup · 25/03/2009 20:23

oh, dear Catchastar, it sounded like it was going really well too!

Still - it's good you've passed it.

It all sounds like a bit of a confidence rollercoaster, without other's fb to compare it against like you can in most brick universities.

juneybean · 02/04/2009 20:38

Hi guys, totally forgot about this thread, I'm doing E123 & E124, it was the TMA2 of E124 where I got a 48.

Sorry about your negative feedback CatchaStar

I don't think I'll be doing anything with OU again, really have not enjoyed this course.

leothelioness · 19/04/2009 04:30

Oh dear I am in such a rut I just can't seem to get in to TMA mode and I don't even have a decent excuse to delay it. It need to be in by thursday and I have 1 paragraph of waffle so far.

Molesworth · 19/04/2009 10:46

Hey, you're doing well to have even one para of waffle at this early stage leo

I've developed an awful tendency to throw something together on cut-off day

leothelioness · 20/04/2009 02:07

Yes I am great Molesworth now I have 2 paras WOOP TI DO.

At this rate I will get it done by the time the exam is scheduled in october.

leothelioness · 20/04/2009 11:26

I have actually gotten down to it today and have now completed on essay question with references and diagrams (yay).
Now I just need to get my head around the experimental report and get in by thursday and everything will be fine!

flibertygibet · 20/04/2009 17:44

Niecie ...are you around? I'm also doing DT840 and really struggling to get TMA03 done. I've been away for the last 2 weeks and feel like my brain has gone to mush.

Actually, a general comment about OU courses is that I feel like I'm always behind in my studies! I never seem to be on top of it and therefore feeling down on myself, even though I haven't done too badly in the assignments.

sigh..should just get on with it.

unfitmother · 20/04/2009 20:13

Just need to tell someone, have just got back TMA01 for K309 and I got 85%.
It's my first OU course and I'd no idea if it was rubbish or not. I'm delighted!

flibertygibet · 20/04/2009 21:04

that's brilliant unfitmother! Which course are you doing!

It's a great feeling when you get a good mark! I'm just hoping I pass this one!

leothelioness · 21/04/2009 10:44

congrats unfitmother. I hope I do well in my next assignment due on thursday but I doubt it as I still have half left to finish.

Molesworth · 21/04/2009 12:21

Congratulations unfitmother!

unfitmother · 21/04/2009 18:35

Thanks, I'm doing Communication in Health & Social care with a view to acheiving a BSc in Health & Social care if I pass this and one more 60 credit module.

The happiness wore off quickly when I realised how soon TMA02 was due in!

leothelioness · 22/04/2009 01:13

good luck with TMA02 I am sure you will do well.

CatchaStar · 23/04/2009 14:08

Well done unfitmother! What a great mark!

Juney what a shame you haven't enjoyed it. That sucks!

Good luck leo!

I got my second tma for childhood in, I spent 8 hours on it on the day it had to be handed in! Got my mark back last week and I had passed, best mark I've recieved yet lol!

Second TMA for Child Developement due in tomorrow, a quater of the way through it. This is for the tutor I don't like! Sigh. Third assignment for childhood due in shortly after this one, also have my eca for astronomy to do for the 30th and doubt I'll get it done. Never mind!

Onwards and upwards
Hope everyone is ok!

Molesworth · 13/05/2009 19:04

How's everyone getting on?

MarsLady · 13/05/2009 19:13

Hey Moley. I have a 4,000 word ECA (end of course assignment) to hand in by 22nd May. Then I will have completed my OU degree.

Being completely addicted I'm looking into studying an MA with them. Apparently they are in the process of approving a Creative Writing MA which interests me greatly.

Anyhoo... back to the assignment.

Molesworth · 13/05/2009 20:26

Wow - how does it feel to be so close to finishing your degree Mars? I'm on year 4 now and feeling the burn!

MarsLady · 13/05/2009 23:56

It feels really exciting and in a strange way almost scary!

I do know that I'm addicted by the study and want to do some more. I went to a friend's graduation ceremony and I can't wait to do mine. Full gown etc.

Molesworth · 14/05/2009 00:04

I can imagine the excitement tinged with apprehension - six years is such a long, hard slog. Can also imagine the void left behind if you end your studies there - I'm already looking at masters courses

GOOD LUCK with your ECA!

leothelioness · 18/05/2009 03:55

Wow marslady the end is in sight. It must be such a sense of achievement. Hi Moles I am also on my 4th year and have to say go through phases where I feel really demotivated but I figure the I can't quit after 4 years I will start my level 3 courses at the end of this year. So hopefully my final course will finish in August 2011 also the same month as my 30th.

MarsLady · 20/05/2009 12:54

Typically I've left it to the last minute. So I'll be on the train to MK on Friday to hand deliver.

Can't believe I'm coming to the end. It's surreal. Still looking out for the MA though.

Love the OU. If I don't do the MA I will do another degree because it's so so addictive!
