Where do people stand on allowing their 14 year old daughter to stay overnight at a boyfriend’s house?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Terrible idea. Unnecessary. Actively encourages them to have sex which is a terrible idea at her age

It’s not though. It’s just the same old perv with the same story as last time hoping for shared stories of teens having sex.

Pervy McPerv seems to have gone now. Why doesn’t mumsnet delete them.

My standing is, why is a 14 year old in a relationship to begin with? No way I'd allow that. And even more no way to 14 year olds of the opposite sex spending the night together at each other's houses.14 year olds aren't supposed to behave like adults, or be encouraged by parents and society to play House.

Indeed! When I was 14, my 3 years older brother had a girlfriend who was in my school year. My Dad - the most mild mannered of men - said "If a lad came round after our Vickie, I'd kick him back down the garden path."

It’s called respect and I’m all for it

Is your DD back with you now, OP?

Me too. My DD, at her request, went to dance classes from the age of three. At nine, she wanted to stop. I said she could stop, but had to see out the term, and that we would go together to tell the (very scary) Mrs X that she was stopping and why, as respectful endings matter. DD was not pleased but off we went. Mrs X was transformed and thrilled. She said many pupils left and said nothing. Others wrote a card explaining. Only DD had come in person. Praise for her courtesy followed.

Sometimes, we have to remind ourselves that effort now is an investment for good habits once they are adults themselves.

My son’s girlfriend was allowed to stay round when they were both 18.

It’s a great idea if you fancy being the grandmother (ie, main carer) of a baby whose mother won’t be a legal adult until they’re in Reception. 👍
