Do I just go to a&e? No idea what’s wrong

Hi all. I have a 6 month old boy. This is my second baby. He’s been such a good baby. Fusses over his teeth, but he sleeps well and anytime he cries a cuddle will soothe him instantly.

since 6am this morning he hasn’t been ok. He woke up screaming. Finally got him back to sleep around 7. He felt warm but no temperature. Wet nappies. Irritable a day. Then since 1 o clock he’s just not stopped. Screaming, red face, constant tears. Heartbreaking cry. I’ve never heard him cry like this not even when he was ill with his chest and needed an inhaler. He won’t calm down. He wears himself out and passes out.

hes tensing his body, holding it completely straight if you lift his legs he freaks. I attempted to bath him - made him worse. He’s so hot but keep checking temp and nothing. Calpol did nothing. Gripe water did nothing I thought maybe he’s constipated. He has a nappy rash we’ve been applying cream to but it doesn’t look bad enough to warrant this reaction.

over the last two hours if you hold him on your chest and pat his back saying shhh he will fall back asleep but the moment you move or stop he instantly wakes screaming

i breastfeed him and he’s had some but he’s just not him

but how do I go to a&e and say my baby won’t stop crying? I’ve looked at every page, checked his body. I don’t know what’s wrong with him
i dont want to find childcare for my tired toddler. Get there, be dismissed by them make him worse. Make him endure blood tests or whatever for nothing but I just don’t know

any advice please

Im glad you took him to A&E and he is now being seen. 111 are a waste of time in my experience. Hoping everything turns out to be fine and you are home soon x

Christwosheds · 28/02/2025 22:47

Hope he is better soon OP.

I say this to every parent I Evee see

always a,ways always trust your gut instinct. There’s some studies done on slight body language signs that we don’t recognise but our subconscious does or something..

but whenever I’ve had a parent say there something wrong…something isn’t right. I will a,ways always listen to it.

no dr would sho you away for being worried…every pead dr would rather yo go in and it be nothing….than for you to not and to not be something.

Teething give him some calpol brufen and a teething ring from the freezer

Inthebleakmidwinter1 · 28/02/2025 23:49

noone begrudges a baby in a and e. Just take him.

Foxgloverr · 28/02/2025 23:53

Why do people reply to a thread without reading it first?

OP have they checked his ears yet?

MixedFeelings72 · 28/02/2025 23:56

Glad you are being seen to in A&E. My LO was inconsolable around 4 months. We went to A&E, they did a load of checks and said it was probably viral. Turned out to be COVID. Wishing your LO well.

Setyoufree · 01/03/2025 00:05

Any more news? Has he just had some jabs? I took mine to A&E for similar, I think it was just some kind of post jab reaction for her

TeaRoseTallulah · 01/03/2025 00:08

Hope all is well OP and you're both catching up on some sleep x

healthybychristmas · 01/03/2025 00:09

I hope everything goes well. You are in the right place. Best of luck to your little one.

ItWillBeDone · 01/03/2025 00:16

Lotsalotsagiggles · 01/03/2025 00:24

Hope they get on top of the temp and hes calming down

Poor little man

111 once sent us an ambulance because DD was ill and would not stop crying - when paramedics arrived they took us in to A&E as they said they would always do that with a non-verbal child who is continually crying. A&E monitored DD and it turned out to be a bad case of tonsillitis, but they said they would always rather a baby that young be brought in just in case.

They never mind seeing babies in A&E OP, and it’s a valid reason for having him checked — they take a lot of notice of “mum instinct”.

Stresshead84x · 01/03/2025 00:41

My daughter used to have a day like this once every few months as a baby- no idea why and it passed by about 1- it was horrible- however I did get her checked the first few things and I think you've definitely done the right things- hope everythings ok.

Snowtimex7 · 01/03/2025 01:45

Smallish update
temp won’t stay down. Bloods and urine are fine. But he’s clearly in pain and so distressed so we are staying overnight for observation and seeing how he is in the morning.
they have no idea. Throat and ears have been checked by two different doctors and fine each time
they want to hold off full invasive checks until the morning unless he gets a lot worse as he’s only had his fever for 12 hours.
flu and Covid check negative.
jabs done months ago.
no idea unfortunately. Still super irritated, high temp varying between 38.6-39.2 always no matter what given. Body still tensing and in pain when moving
is feeding and we did have a wet nappy!

Thank goodness you’re staying in. I’m so pleased you went. Hopefully you’re feeling a little reassured that they’re keeping you in and will continue checks in the morning? Take care of yourself too OP. Hoping you get a little sleep xx

Snowtimex7 · 01/03/2025 01:50

Thank you all for the supportive messages. So tired but so glad I’m here. Hopefully he gets better soon x

thistlepiedpiper · 01/03/2025 01:52

Wishing you and ds well, please keep us updated. You are in the best place and will either know more or have your mind put at ease by the morning at least ❤️

Flump9 · 01/03/2025 02:06

I know it sounds daft and you've probably checked him all over but have you checked his toes as my ds when he was a baby had a hair tourniquet (a hair wrapped around his toe)

steff13 · 01/03/2025 02:22

Poor little guy. I hope you get answers soon.

Testingthetimes · 01/03/2025 02:28

I hope the night goes ok and that it clarifies what has been upsetting him so much

PoopingAllTheWay · 01/03/2025 02:58

Hope he is much better come morning

CaptainFuture · 01/03/2025 03:10

How are you both @Snowtimex7 ?
We were similar, turns out was a uti, have they dipped or sent a sample off for this? so distressing so hope you are sorted soon.
