Parents of girls, what word do you use for vagina? I have a baby girl and can't remember what we used growing up!

Vagina.
That's its name.

Seafog · 14/11/2021 23:10

We just used vagina, it wasn't a big deal

Vagina/Vulva. Use the correct anatomical names so as not to confuse.

I call the vagina the vagina and the vulva the vulva. Correct terminology, even at a young age, is really important.

Jojobees · 14/11/2021 23:11

Vagina. It’s already got a name. We don’t think of euphemisms for any other body parts.

TurnUpTurnip · 14/11/2021 23:11

We use the correct terms

Bimblybomeyelash · 14/11/2021 23:12

Vulva and vagina.

Embracelife · 14/11/2021 23:12

You don't need another word.
Use the one you know already.

Mybalconyiscracking · 14/11/2021 23:13

@Beachtrip

Vagina. That's its name.
Oooh, almost straight in there with the PC answer, well done!

We called it a “minny” but you will get your arse handed to you on MN if you do not have your three year olds spouting the anatomically correct terms.

WorraLiberty · 14/11/2021 23:14

If you're not comfortable with the word vagina (or vulva, as some MNetters will be queuing up to scream shortly) Grin Just pick a twee name that's common enough for people to understand.

It's possibly area dependant though.

Rainbowsew · 14/11/2021 23:14

Use the proper terms!

ncnewbaby · 14/11/2021 23:15

Oh God. I already anticipated the 'vagina' replies. I get there's nothing wrong with the word but I would rather use a more childlike term when they're babies/toddlers. Looking for any other terms.

Use vulva, it’s the correct term as there aren’t many occasions you actually need to refer to her actual vagina!

It’s now advised that you teach toddlers the accurate anatomical terms as this helps safeguard them against abuse and helps them be confident in knowing about their own bodies and boundaries.

Little girls in particular deserve to learn about their bodies factually and not as something coy or euphemistic or shameful.

You get used to saying “now you need to wipe your vulva” pretty quickly and then it doesn’t seem strange! (I also alternated it with “your bits” but made sure I also used the correct term too).

Bloodypunkrockers · 14/11/2021 23:17

Mybalconyiscracking. What is PC about using the correct term?

What an odd view

Political correctness?

Helpstopthepain · 14/11/2021 23:17

My awful ex used to refer to our dd’s ‘bits’ Confused he was an absolute twat though.
He hated that I said vagina.

ThesecondLEM · 14/11/2021 23:17

Foof or mini, because it sounds nicer and easier to say than vagina. Pretty much, call it what you want. Can't be doing with people getting airiated about what someone calls their genitals.

What are you going to call other body parts? Like head shoulders knees and toes?

Can them all what you like if you really want to who cares?

@ncnewbaby but god forbid something happened to your child (sexual assault or inappropriate touching) and they tell a teacher that they've been touched on a insert childish name for vagina how do the police or you know exactly where the touching has happened? Muffin could mean anything etc

Trixiefirecracker · 14/11/2021 23:19

I don’t understand people not calling it what it is. I mean you don’t have another word for nose do you, it’s just a nose.
