Parents of girls, what word do you use for vagina? I have a baby girl and can't remember what we used growing up!

My daughter used to call it her front bottom. Used that initially but then called it vagina (though honestly don't think we talked about it much)!

But the “front bottom” (by which I presume you mean the vulva) and vagina are two different things. The vagina is an internal organ!

This is what I always find bizarre about these threads - there are more than a few people who seem confused about what the vagina actually is? Confused

I find it odd that this subject still causes so much emotion. We had had a women get quite cross about being corrected, or sneering and rolling their eyes when told the correct terms.

No other part of anatomy evokes this type of strong emotion - certainly not male genitalia.

What should be a fact taught to all children in a normal biology clas has become something mysterious to be whispered about and hidden.

Even when women think they are being bold and daring to use the word vagina they are using it for the wrong body parts.

This thread has really opened my eyes.

The child abuse argument for me isn’t about allowing a child to disprove their body, it’s about taking the shame out of the fable anatomy. It’s about being able to talk about you vulva in the same was you talk about your elbow. Fifty percent of the population has a vulva- it’s nothing to be embarrassed about.

Describe not disprove!

My dd is 3 and i've always called it her vagina. She calls it her dengo. I have no idea why she calls it this, but she refuses to call it her vagina.

As a kid we used 'privates' and 'winky'. As an adult I still use these terms for DS. As he gets older I'll switch to anatomically correct words.

I heard a story once of a girl referring to her privates as 'cookie' and a teacher not taking her disclosure seriously when she told her 'my uncle licked my cookie' until the teacher heard mum refer to her privates as 'cookie'. Don't know how true it is but giving silly names is a no-no in my book for this reason. With 'privates' everyone understands what area you're talking about

As a child, I said "front bum" and "baby hole" for the vulva and vagina respectively. But really, just use the proper words. There's no need not to.
