Is this a ridiculous name?

We have twin girls due in a few weeks time and are stumped on a name for baby B.
Our name for baby A is Quinn and the names of our other kids are Arabella, Felix and Hugo.
For baby B we've been deciding between Audrey, Eloise and Pippa.

However, the point of this question is to ask, do you think Pippilotta or Pippalotta is a ridiculous name? If we use Pippa, we'd like it to be as a nickname, but aren't fans of the traditional Philippa. So, would Pippilotta or Pippalotta work, or alternatively Ophelia or Josephine with Pippa as a nickname?

Please don't hesitate to share your feedback. I don't want to give my child a ridiculous name and fear that pregnancy hormones have clouded my judgement!

Pippawhata ?

@alexdgr8

dear OP, i think you have been commendably patient and good-humoured through all this. and i think you have chosen well. just one thing, may be more of an issue in UK. Quinn Catherine would probably be nicknamed Queenie here, as it sounds like what Prince William's wife will be, and probably in your DD's lifetime. but that's no bad thing. what's the other middle name. ?swap?
We thought about that! I think we should be alright as the twins will grow up in New York from age 3 onwards. We also won't call her Quinn Catherine from day to day, just Quinn. Great point though that was pointed out by a family member early on so definitely something we considered!

I think I need to step away from the thread.... Pippilotta is starting to grow on me 🤔

Lovely names you've chosen OP.

Sorry OP, I think it's not great. It made me think poopsalot

@Sockmonkeysloth

I have a question (and no opinion on your baby names, I’m sure you’ll be pleased to hear at this point!). How do you pick which baby has which name? Will it be first out getting Quinn?
As they're identical we've had them labeled as A and B from early on so that their growth can be measured accurately (although perhaps labelling A and B is also done for fraternal twins? I'm not sure). So we know that baby A will be Quinn and baby B will be Audrey.

OP I love your taste in names. Arabella is my fave girls name but I was sadly vetoed. I have a Polly, would that work with Quinn?

Becstar90 · 18/03/2021 22:06

I would honestly wonder why. She would just get Pippa and you love that name so why not just name her that. It's fine, the other two, not so much.

Hoowhoowho · 18/03/2021 22:08

Quinn is a perfectly standard unisex name, very popular in the US and not unheard of in the U.K. with nearly 300 boys and 200 girls named it last year. What’s the fuss about?

Audrey is lovely too, only issue is same initial as Arabella.

We've chosen Audrey. Thanks :)

How about calling her Peregrine?

That can be abbreviated to Pip, Pippa, Pippin.... which seems to be what you want.

It can be a girl's name and a boy's name, means wanderer, someone who likes to travel, a pilgrim. It's a real, very old name, as well as being a quirky name - e.g. Peregrin Took aka Pippin from The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and a name of the most beautiful bird of prey the peregrine falcon. A falcon could be her "logo", embroidered on her sports gear, engraved on her satchel, printed on her personalised stationery - she would love you for such a lovely, versatile and distinguished name!

i know people find reading the full thread sometimes tedious, but at least go to the last page after reading the opening post, also you can pick out OP's posts only quite easily, so as to skim through the updates.
just click on, see next, under OPs.
so much of this is irrelevant now. OP has decided.
good luck with everything OP.

bitheby · 18/03/2021 22:13

This made me laugh. I see you've chosen Audrey now. Glad you didn't go for Pippalotta.

Ophelia is a lovely name. Could shorten that to Phil. I think I would've gone for that in your shoes but congratulations on your babies.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 18/03/2021 22:17

I don't live in the UK, but there's some obsession with post isn't there...? Here, post is generally addressed to first name last name. Initials aren't an issue post wise...

lalafafa · 18/03/2021 22:19

Quinn the twin

ghislaine · 18/03/2021 22:21

One day you will tell Audrey this story and she will demand to be called Pippilotta. This will eventually turn into Pippa. Problem solved. First name Audrey, known as Pippa.

I think Juniper works well with Quinn.

Nith · 18/03/2021 22:28

Anyone else now singing about Quinn the Eskimo?

Cissyandflora · 18/03/2021 22:32

Chipolata? Chip for nickname?

CandyLeBonBon · 18/03/2021 22:33

So.....Harley Quin and Pippa longstocking!?

Great choices op.

If you like Pippa, just use Pippa. Frankly a lot of kids spend YEARS hating the names their parents give them do just be prepared!

Fedupmiddleagedwoman · 18/03/2021 22:33

It’s not as bad as Quinn

twinmama2021 · 18/03/2021 22:37

@Fedupmiddleagedwoman

It’s not as bad as Quinn
Please think before posting. Would you say that to someone face to face? It's the name of our baby daughter. Are you expecting us to change her name because you don't like it?

Pippa or Eloise.
No long name for Pippa.

Audrey is the middle aged woman from coronation street, or the carnivorous plant from little shop of horrors. It's nothing like Quinn in style and quite frumpy.

FamilyOfAliens · 18/03/2021 22:53

Sorry, I couldn’t bear to RTFT and the endless posts asking the OP why she didn’t choose Lottie.

But I have to agree it seems sad that one twin gets a family name so special that three generations of women in the family have it as their name, while the other twin gets a name chosen by random strangers on an internet forum Sad

MammaMiaWallace · 18/03/2021 22:53

@COPPER3

My MIL was called Philistine, which I thought was a pretty unusual name for her time. Her nickname was Phil, which is horrible I think for a woman, but I guess Pippa would go well as a shortened version! I'm not overly keen on Pippa though as I know hundreds of dogs called it (sorry). However, I absolutely love the name Ophelia. I think your other children also have beautiful names. Good Luck!
Your MIL was named Philistine??!?? 😂😂😂😂
SleepingStandingUp · 18/03/2021 22:54

As they're identical we've had them labeled as A and B from early on so that their growth can be measured accurately (although perhaps labelling A and B is also done for fraternal twins? I'm not sure). So we know that baby A will be Quinn and baby B will be Audrey. Our midwife begged us not to name them in utero so she wasn't responsible if they came out wrong 😂😂. We did C (first picked name) as first out and Z (very last minute picked!) As second out.

We have Quinn as a middle name 😁

MrsDrSpencerReid · 18/03/2021 23:00

I can’t get over the rudeness of some people on this thread Shock

I think Quinn & Audrey sound so pretty together, great choice OP! All your children’s names are lovely actually!

All the best for the remainder of your pregnancy Flowers
