Wouldn't we all be a nightmare on a rare ladies only night out?!

My mum and dad are comming and also dp's mum and friend and weve invited friends aswell. Its just so expensive to get married here we thought why not go away and do it.

dd's finally gone down hoorayy..
Lesson learnt for child no 2. LEAVE THEM TO CRY AT THE BEGINNING AND PUT THEM DOWN DROWSY. Never had the heart with dd but will forse myself with d2. Also been planning when to have a d2 decided on starting to try next may. That way dd will be 2 when its born and I get another summer off work

SusiS · 24/09/2004 21:38

oh! you are planning a 2nd one already? well, i've been asked so many times but ... how can you tell when your lo is only a few months old

and yes - i still remember bedtimes; when i had to hold myself back not to go in and pick him up. - utoh he just cried out loud! i sneaked in, gave him his dummy a stroke on his head and off he went again - good boy!!!

and re wedding - i'd do the same! just really close family - if at all

Bozza · 24/09/2004 22:04

DD is in the 6-18 month sleeping bag (Asda though not grobag) with no problem - just a lot of room at the bottom. Anyway things have improved today because DS is much better and we had friends round - two friends with a DS and DD each who are not bothered if their kids get chicken pox. I think DS was very pleased. And PIL are back from their holiday and are going to babysit while we go shopping on Sunday. So just tomorrow to think about.

Kbaby, that's why Dh and I got married in Canada. It was cheaper for us and dd1 to go away for a two week holiday and get married while we were there rather than get married here. Plus families can be so annoying aunty so and so won't come because uncle such and such is coming etc etc etc. Much easier just to go away and do your own thing, well it was for us anyway.

Dd2 was having a grumble around 3am this morning, she didn't want fed as she went back to sleep but she tossed and turned for a while. So I tried her with some more babyrice tonight and she ate the lot, will see if she grumbles during the night tonight. She probably still will but it's a little experiment on my behalf.

Kbaby I think it's great that you're planning no.2 already. Believe me when you have no.2 there will be so many things that you'll do differently, I certainly have done.
I sometimes catch myself thinking "if we had another one..." but I won't be having any more, I'm all done.

Had a good day today. Dh was off so got to spend time with dd2. and I had my driving lesson. The instructor had me doing 3 point turns. Eeek 2nd lesson. The first one I did he said I did very very well. So he made me do another one which was ok and a third one which I mucked up by stalling, oops. still can't complain I always liked 3 point turns. I'm enjoying my lessons better this time around I seem to have a better understanding of how the car actually works IYKWIM so it's all making a lot more sense. Was a little heavy on the brake today though, he kept saying braking gently and I would press too hard. Oh well I'm sure I'll get it right eventually.

Dd2 hasn't mastered rolling over yet. She has discovered her toes though and likes to bring her legs up and grab her toes, doesn't suck them though, urgh, and then sort of rolls onto her side, always the left hand side, but doesn't go any further. Still doesn't like being put on her tummy though. Also doesn't show much interest in standing up either, but I know it'll happen one day.

Can I ask a question about gro-bags? Is 2.5 tog an ok tog for winter or should I get a higher tog? Our bedrooms can get quite cold during the night and I sometimes wonder if dd2 wakes and grumbles in the night because she's cold. I don't want her overheating though, so I thought I'd ask. the one she has is a 2.5 tog.

kbaby · 24/09/2004 22:11

Think the gro bags only come in 2.5 tog, maybe you could put a sleepsuit on underneath. Weve put dd back in the summer 1tog. I had her in the 2.5 with a long sleeve vest on and I noticed when she woke that her hands and feet were sweaty. The rooms 22c so ive put her ina sleepsuit and a 1tog. Might keep her in that one all winter as our bedrooms get really warm.

Bozza · 24/09/2004 22:30

Gosh kbaby 22 degreees. You must have your heating on - our bedrooms haven't hit that for weeks. DD is in 2.5 tog bag and sleepsuit (no vest) and seems fine apart from cold hands. Not sure what we will do in the caravan a week on Monday.

She has rolled from tummy to back 3 times but normally is too busy being cross about being put on her tummy to bother trying.

Judd · 24/09/2004 22:33

DS is wearing 2.5 tog bag and sleepsuit. He is also tethered to the spot with a blanket!
Hasn't bothered to even attempt a roll so far, would much rather be up on feet...and cracked out his 2nd tooth last night (got me up at 5.30 to celebrate )

linnet · 24/09/2004 22:40

Judd it said on the label of my gro bag not to use any other covers.

Kbaby she does have a sleepsuit on but I don't put a vest on her as I don't want her to get to hot. just nappy, sleepsuit and grobag. I check her before going to bed her hands and her face are sometimes cool but not freezing. and when she gets up in the morning and I take the grobag off she's nice and toasty inside. she's maybe not cold she maybe just likes to wake up and have a conversation with herself in the middle of the night

morning everybody
yep twiglett i was wondering about your night activities - judd aren't they just cute showing off their teeth?? DS has 2 bottom ones and every time he laughs you can see them - i was wondering if anybodys room was around 18degrees (as everywhere suggested)? so far his room was lowest 23 and it seems to me chilly - DS had a normal night, bottles at 12 and 4am but woke up already 6am, normally he goes back to bed he kept whimpering so i took him into my bed; big mistake; he went back to sleep again and occupied all bed and starting snoring too - taking after his dad already - well so i got up and having a cup of tea while my 2 heros are still asleep

MrsDoolittle · 25/09/2004 13:12

Hi, an April mummy sticking her nose in. I am wondering Egypts baby is.

kbaby · 25/09/2004 13:19

Our bedrooms just get warm theres no heating on and theyre still 22c. We live in a bungalow but the loft has been converted to fit the bedrooms which is why I think its always warm upstairs. In the summer some nights it was 27c and me and dd had to sleep downstairs. TBH even 21c seems cold to me and dp and weve got the quilt up to our ears. Cant see how 18c is supposed to be ideal its too cold.
Dont mean to gloat but I will anyway we had a lush night last night. DD finally went in her cot at 9.30ish i woke her at 11.30 for a feed, I gave her 5ozs formula and breast and she slept until 6.30. She did wake at 3 and I went to go and feed her but when I got there she was on her belly so I turned her over put the dummy in and she rolled back onto her belly and went to sleep.
She slept on her belly all night. Im still really scared about her doing it but as soon as i put her on her back she rolls straight over so theres not much I can do.

WOOT! I think I've sussed what the problem is with getting a long extended sleep in the day!

I just have to share so I can be all disheartened tomorrow when the same doesn't work two days running as always

Went upstairs this lunchtime, ds2 hysterical after only having had a 45min nap AGAIN. Noticed that his Cuski (comforter doll thing that smells of me) was over the other side of the cot where he ALWAYS seems to fling it. I put it back in his arms (have never done this before - don't know why it hasn't occurred to me... bad mummy) and he gave me this huge smile, one last shuddering sobby breath, then turned his head to the side and closed his eyes!

All quiet now!

It's so not going to work tomorrow, is it?!

Egypt · 25/09/2004 15:30

oh georgina that's so cute! bless his heart

thats sweet of you checking in on me mrsdoolittle. (i havent been able to get online all day, probs with ntl..... but all is well now). anyway, dd went to sleep at 7pm as usual. woke at 10.15. had a good feed and slept til 4.15. then woke at 7am. this is one of our best nights. is it the babyrice? hmmmmm. havent given her any today so far, and am trying not to. she had a 2 1/2 hour sleep this morning, which is unheard of and is currently sleeping now. i think it was a growth spurt thing, but am experimenting to see if she settles for tonight and tomorrow just as well without rice.

cant believe you are thinking about d2 already kbaby! dh wants to start trying when dd is between 9 and 12 months but not me! too scared to get pregnant right away and be unable to cope with a baby and a toddler. but then again dh wants loads of kids!

highest tog grobag is 2.5 i am sure. they are warmer than you think because they are almost wrapped up in them, unlike a duvet. we use a sleepsuit and a 2.5 although if i cant buy any blinkin' £12 jobbies from kiddicare.com may have to put a vest on too and stick with the 1tog!

SusiS · 25/09/2004 17:40

allrighty, back from shopping! - kbaby agreed! 18degree is way too cold brrrrrr - and bravo to a good night - georgina: sometimes it's just so easy -- funny enough dp started that topic today too! d2! well, not straight away; not as long as DS can't eat and walk - can't carry around 2 littlens! and thinking of the birth doesn't really encourage me either. but i'd like a brother or sister for DS

Egypt · 25/09/2004 20:10

we've had a great day with dd. she slept 2 1/2 hours this morning and another 2 this afternoon! she went down at 7.15pm and fingers crossed, will have another good night. all this without babyrice . told dh that she's normally not this easy during the week. she has been misrepresenting herself again - (cant remember who used that line b4, but i found it funny and it's stuck!)

just watching the x-factor crap and usual saturday night rubbish, until millionaire, with the obligatory glass of wine........ahhhhhhh

Bozza · 25/09/2004 21:24

Hate Saturday night TV - so not watched any. Got my payslip today - I'm now on SMP - only £308 after tax and nursery will be about £200. Because I get paid in arrears next month I will get paid the same put have to pay about £500 for nursery for November of DS and DD. Nightmare!

DD is being really funny these days. Just always making us laugh. She has so many little tricks. Put her in her cot while I made our bed today and she started crying such a cross cry. Only goes in her cot at nighttime because naps in travel cot so she must have thought it was bedtime at 10am.

Also took spotty DS out in public for the first time.

linnet · 25/09/2004 21:30

Egypt I got my gro-bag from Asda and it was only £10. I suppose I shouldn't call it a gro-bag because it isn't actually by them it's an Asda one but it's the same thing.

I don't know what temp our bedroom gets to as we don't have a thermometer.

Lots of drooling and red cheeks here as well but no teeth yet.

Oh and dd2 didn't wake up for a conversation during the night last night, wonder if it was the baby rice or just luck.

GeorginaA · 25/09/2004 21:37

Oooo... I've gone all mushy! Friend of mine has just had her first baby... just found out today (although he was born on Tuesday). I've only seen pictures because we're all cold-ridden and don't want to infect the poor mite, but he looks so SMALL and fragile! I can't get over how big and robust ds2 looks already in comparison!

I'm going to be terrified of holding that baby, and it was only 4 months ago I had a newborn myself, ffs!

Bozza · 25/09/2004 21:38

Just luck I'd say Linnet . I've also got the cheap Asda bags and they seem fine to me.

Bozza · 25/09/2004 21:39

LOL Georgina. Will be like that next month when SIL gives birth.

Me too because I really think DD will be my last. Am trying to cling on to her babyish ways. DH was threatening to put her in her own bedroom last night but am determined she stays in with us until 6 months.

GeorginaA · 25/09/2004 21:52

I think ds2 will be our last too

Mainly from a practical reason - I'm looking forward to starting a new stage of life, knowing that babydom isn't that long - want to get on with writing, getting some more qualifications (just for fun, yes I'm sad) etc. Don't want to move to a bigger house for a while, not comfortable with a bigger car... all pointing towards 2 kids being optimum rather than 3.

Still makes me feel very sad though that ds1 & ds2 will never have another sibling, and I'll never again have a teeny tiny baby.
