Wouldn't we all be a nightmare on a rare ladies only night out?!

bozza i give 7 ozs of ebm for each feed. she empties the bottle. 2 of my friends though havent been able to express any milk during the day at work and have had to do formula at day and breast at night. im keeping this at the back of my mind so that if i cant express at work not to feel guilty.
Sandi georginaa told me that its fine to heat them in the microwave although dont do what i did which was to heat it for 2 mins not 20 secs. i ended up melting my brand new weaning bowl with a lid that holds the spoon
susis your lucus looks lovely i esp like the one with food everywhere.
dd slept from 11pm until 5am last night. this makes me question the needing to wean thing now. after 1 week of waking 2hourly im not sure now.
i always feel guilty that i dont spend enough time with dd. im either doing housework or expressing, ringing the bank etc. i feel that all i do is put her on her mat or chair and leave her there.
her favorite games though are throwing her in the air, blowing rasberries on her belly and pulling funny faces.
she was really good last night. went to bed at 7.30 and woke at 11pm. she was in a really playfull mood though and kept screaching and laughing, i thought i may have trouble getting her to sleep but i just laid her in her cot awake said 'goodnight' and went to bed. she fell asleep about 15 mins later. at least i know she can fall asleep on her own during the night even if she wont during the day.
also forgot a friend has joined a baby swimming group and she said its really good. they dunk the babies and spray watering cans over their heads. they also have to swim under water. she recommends it as she wouldnt have had the guts to do any of that on her own with her lo. were going to sign up for the next one hopefully by then dd wouldbe had her 5in1 vac.

i can't do it [boo hoo]

spots · 12/10/2004 12:11

Maybe you need to do the 'share public' thing Sandi?

Amfs is 'anonymous marmite flavoured snack'... but the girl herself prob. ought to be th e person to give any further clues if needed. Think along the lines of someone who went away (Reggie Perrin style...)

Am near Edinburgh btw.

Kbaby I took dd with me in the shower the other day just to see how she'd be with the water on head thing. was quite fun if a little slippery... soap not recommended. She does have excema, so no soap for her anyway... she has joined the legions of Diprobase children.

spots · 12/10/2004 12:13

Susi, meant to say that Lucas is picture perfect! That really is a cracking photo, that food one. He looks just as you describe him!

Egypt · 12/10/2004 12:38

susi, lucas is gorgeous!!!! and the little teeth!

on your recommendaions, am going to NEXT to get some tights!

as for first foods, i started with babyrice, for about 2 weeks actually, only at lunchtime. she mostly enjoyed it. tried at teatime once, but seemed to be too grumpy to eat then . now have begun to add veg or fruit each time. she loves that alot. still only at lunchtime. may up to 2 meals a day perhaps next week. or the week after when she is 5 months old.

dd's favourite games have to be standing on her feet at any opportunity, mummy blowing raspberries on her cheeks and side of mouth to make donald duck noises and being tipped upsidedown and tickled under the chin! definitely loves the pulling of my hair too. ooooooouch.

been to m&b. am fed up of hearing about loads of babies who sleep through the night. why is mine still waking 2-3 times??? if not more.? one of the mums said i ought to speak to the hv about it, like it oughtn't be happening. makes me feel terrible. surely she'll just grow out of it? i am kind of ok about it most of the time, then people talk me into thinking that there must be something wrong. i know my hv will just say "she's hungry - feed her more" (ie solids) and i DO NOT believe that's the answer.

spots · 12/10/2004 12:49

Egypt, I have decided to chill out about 2 night wakes a night. Any more feels bad tho'. Mother and baby groups always seem FULL of good sleepers!

Sandi102 · 12/10/2004 16:46

spots, you mentioned ur dd has eczema, how severe or mild is it? ds1 had it quite bad until he was about 2. Now he has mild patches on his joints (arms and legs). I used oilutam but since discovered aveeno, which is great. ds2 has very dry skin, and have not used anything in the bath. i am considering using something though, but i just don't know what, because i fear that his skin may react to it. i use olive oil before and after baths, and 50/50 white soft and liquid parafin at other times. and thanks for the tip to share public. i'll have a go. oh and edinburgh is so far for me. I'd love to come, because i've never been to scotland, but when we do go, i'll make sure to drop by.

it would be great to see mumsnetters. Anyone live in the midlands?

egypt, i agree. i don't think stuffing a baby with more and more solids, in order to make them sleep more is the answer. some babies get into the sleep thing straight away (ds1 from 9 weks and never woke in the night since) whereas some babies sleep thro and then stop for some reason (like my ds2 now) and i know of some babies who never slept through the night, until they were 18months. I have to admit i used to speak to my cousin as if she was doing something wrong, but wished i hadn't, as she now suffers with insomina as a result and is also prone to depression.

central heating is nearly done. it looks great! will now persuade DH to persuade MIL to have the fireplace replaced!

Egypt · 12/10/2004 17:16

sandi, i'm in the mids - where are you?

SusiS · 12/10/2004 17:58

had a very nice relaxing bath!!! (1hour and very hot ) - put dp on "babywatch"
result: i am not allowed to go out on sunday with my friends; "he can't handle ds for so long alone" grmpf - we'll see

agreed! no sense of stuffing babies with solids. i don't think that makes them sleep through neither! they are just individuals and stick to their own schedule - well my ds seems to use the england train one

feeding went well though; ohhhh bought that "apple peach fruit puree" from organix - yummy!!!!! - mixed it with a bit babyrice and was gone in a mo

now i am getting him ready for his bath - he really enjoys that!!! all that splashing about - can't wait for him to sit on the big bath
and then soon after he'll fall asleep

talk to you in a mo

GeorginaA · 12/10/2004 18:15

"mixed it with a bit babyrice and was gone in a mo"

Eaten by you or the baby?!

SusiS · 12/10/2004 18:30

have you got a camera installed here???? looking around
nawwwww, just a spoonfull to check if it's "good enough"

Amfs · 12/10/2004 19:02

She won't sleep during the day ..... arrrggghhhh ... don't know how she does it .. 20 mins in the morning, 30 mins in the afternoon ...

wouldn't mind but am beginning to think sleep is for the weak .. last night was dreadful ... with a mixture of DD and DH waking me up / keeping me awake

Rant Warning *

phoned DH at 4.40 to say 'come home now, I'm not asking, I'm telling' cos DS is a whinge-bag (even though he'd been at a friend's house for 2 hours cos she could see how tired I was, he came back and whined and whinged)

.. so DH gets home at 6pm .. I go upstairs to feed and put DD to sleep (had already bathed and massaged her) which means lying on the bed and bf'ing for a good 30 mins normally

and 5 minutes later DS comes upstairs and whinges as me for the next quarter hour (come downstairs, get me some juice, please can I have a biscuit)

.. DH is meanwhile sitting on the couch downstairs

when I professed my angered (ee I've gone all posh ) he said, and I quote 'what did you want me to do about it?'

well getting off his ar$e would've been a start

sorry rant over

libb · 12/10/2004 19:12

Amfs - I hear you loud and clear - on all counts.

Lack of naps (not so much my concern now), lack of proper sleep and a DP who needs clear and obvious directions tatttooed on his forehead. Would brand his buttocks with them but he'd never see them . . . .

OP posts:
Amfs · 12/10/2004 19:14

mmm branding

Amfs · 12/10/2004 19:15

oh bugger

GeorginaA · 12/10/2004 19:30

Oh Amfs I am sorry - and being sleep deprived makes it a million times worse doesn't it?! I have to say that ds2 is following ds1's pattern of being CRAP at sleeping in the day and 2 x 30 mins nap in the day is the norm here too, although by the sound of it we get off more lightly at night with only one or two wakings now (either 2am ish or 11pm & 4am ish).

Ds1 has been a whingy ratbag today as well... perhaps due to the weather? Ds1 always seems to go slightly mental when he hasn't had a run outside. I assume due to the weather the kids stayed in at playtime today.

GeorginaA · 12/10/2004 19:31

LOL at your slip

Egypt · 12/10/2004 19:32

who's twiglett? i see no knobbly brown thing around here........

i totally understand you matey

GeorginaA · 12/10/2004 19:37

Egypt - meant to say about the sleeping thing - perhaps their babies just haven't gone back into the awake all hours stage yet? I'm sure people only mention the sleeping at night thing when they've finally come through the other side and are feeling smug. Those who still have babies who wake just keep quiet!!!

I think this thread shows quite plainly that even those of us who had babies who "slept through" quite young have now gone back to night wakings again (and oh god, it's a killer... mind you it would help if I didn't somehow get into a rut about not going to sleep myself until gone midnight).

GeorginaA · 12/10/2004 19:38

I'm south a bit of the midlands ... I'm in Worcester.

(sorry... working my way back through all the posts I'd only skimread while trying to cuddle an annoyingly awake baby earlier)

GeorginaA · 12/10/2004 19:39

Oooo... beautiful baby pics of little lucas

libb · 12/10/2004 19:45

My sleep through-er has decided to strike too - hope it is only temporary whilst he dreams of the strange woman who has made mummy disappear . . .

Sorry, Susi - your Lucas is lovely, just as you described him, the cheeky scamp!

Smirk Amfs! you just can't help yourself can you?!

OP posts:
Judd · 12/10/2004 19:47

Thank goodness that I log on for the first time in yinks and don't find you all having hearty, wholesome, playful hours with rosy cheeked children and placid babies!
Actually DD has been fab today ...just the young man who has been as whingey as a bag. I know its teething, I know he has a cold - could he not be ill quietly though???? Just like a bloke!
On a brighter note (sorry for rant!) DS is normally very happy and jolly - had a proud moment in Tesco at the weekend when a lady complimented me on my well behaved children! Have also put DS's name down for Tumbletots in January and DD for the next class up which is the one where they DO IT ON THEIR OWN !! And its at a posh tennis club with a coffee bar attached - my joy is unbounded!
KBaby - have used Medised for the first time tonight. It tastes awful! No wonder DS wasn't happy.
Libb - glad going back to work has been OK. Just enjoy the small pleasures like going to the toilet without somebody either following you, or sobbing because you have left them (unless you work in a really needy office where that actually happens )and eating lunch with people who don't "bib suck" between each mouthful!
