Wouldn't we all be a nightmare on a rare ladies only night out?!

cat82 · 08/10/2004 19:27

Thanks Susi- We couldn't decide between Kiera and Willow so we had Willow for a middle name. Different, but not different enough to be resented for!

Kbaby-Poor Ds Hope he gets better soon.

Libb-BTW- you forgot to mention our Dp's working in the same building!! Ooh, and i said i had 33 mundane moments a day-i meant 330 and only just saw my mistake. Sorry!

Bozza- i know, we ALWAYS forget to use them, when we go shopping, but can't for going away. I have recurring nightmares about forgetting Kieras bottles, food and sterilizer, and end up up scouring the streets and knocking on people doors to ask if i can borrow some, with my poor starving child in my arms!! I also thought you meant you were pregnant at first!!

I had a lovely surprise from Dp this afternoon. We own possibly the hugest, heaviest pushair ever (many annoyed bus drivers have refered to it as The Biggest Buggy In The World), and when we go away for a few days, it will not fit in the car, with all the other billions of stuff he have to take, and i HATE not having the pram. We've been jabbering for a while about getting a smaller, nippier kinda pram, and i've been admiring a Mclaren for ages. Well today a knock on the door and a lovely delievery man stood on my doorstep with that lovely shiny new pram!!! Dp ordered it in the week for us to take this weekend Soooo pleased!

Have a great weekend people!

good morning everybody!
seems i wasn't the only one who went to bed early
had a quite good night too. fed ds 9.00 went to bed myself; 10pm DP (!) woke me grmpf - 2.30 ds on his tummy; 3.30 hungry - and then 7.00 - he was not crying or anything; just talking and giggling
although my plans yesterday all fell pearshaped! he fell asleep his usual (6pm) but on the couch; i prepared bath and nightclothes and waited for him to wake up an hour later. guess again!! i even tried to wake him - just like his dad - well, so i put him to bed!

Sandi102 · 09/10/2004 08:20

hi all, a better night and day yesterday. ds had 2 2 hour naps in the day and then went down at 8, instead of 7, and he slept through without a dream feed until 5am, when he babbled and fell back to sleep until 6.45. I hope this lasts!

i gave gluten free rusks for the first time yeserday and this morning he has an eczema type rash on his ankles and backs of legs. I'm contributing it to the rusks but you never really know, so i'll eliminate it for the time being and see whether the rash gets worse or better.

went shopping yesterday, made a list and when i got into morrisons i was looking for the list, only to have forgotton it in the car! I always do that. Feel re-assured i'm not the only one!

Going out to the bullring later today, so Have a nice weekend everyone

helooooo we're back

twas not the easiest of hols. france was pleasant - q warm i comparison, but dd obviously hates the french. she screamed the hotel down both nights, wouldn't sleep until midnight at least and woke loads and loads in the night.....to scream again. dh is still asleep now (we arrived home last night). dd is watching baby einstein.

read all your messages. after the shock of thinking bozza was pregnant....... cat your dh is a little angel.! i want a maclaren. dh says i can have one for christmas [confused face]. but its for dd not me. the crap pushchair that mil gave us is indeed just that. lugged it around paris, even on the metro. put dd in it, then the sling so could pull it down the many pushchair friendly steps on the metro, then back up to push around eiffel tower. grrr,

anyway, dd seems to be happy now we're home. went to sleep at 9.30 and woke just 11 and 3, 6 and 8.30. much better.

Bozza · 09/10/2004 14:03

Sorry for the confusion. Can't believe you all thought I was pregnant. What exactly did I post to make you think that? I know I was getting all gushy about the baby but I was obviously a bit garbled too .

Sorry your DD was not impressed by France, Egypt.

DD has cut another tooth today but seems much happier despite a cold, chicken pox and two teeth in the last week. We were actually pleased that she was sick today. Because we took it as a sign that she had got her appetite back.

Had a big row with DH this morning because I wanted to go out shopping and leave DD with him(having discussed it for the last two days) and he messed about so I couldn't get ready, then cooked some frozen EBM in the microwave so that it had to be thrown away etc etc. Don't think he realises how trapped I've been feeling with the poxy kids.

Egypt · 09/10/2004 14:17

hi bozza. so sorry you are feeling pissed off. did you get to go shopping?

it was just this sentence bozza:
"Well guys - things are looking up. My DN is absolutely gorgeous and I have another due in January."
We knew what you meant, but for a moment......!

dd is still asleep. am a bit worried now. she went to sleep around 11.30, woke about 1.30 when dh was making too much noise. i fed her and she fell asleep again. never usually does after a daytime nap. put her in her cot and she's still there. (2.15) oo dear.

best go and check......paw paw and babyrice for lunch so wake up!

kbaby · 09/10/2004 17:18

Cat82 im impressed my DP would not have a clue when it comes to buying a buggy or anything else baby related actually. He gets to do all the fun stuff like play and bath DD when I get to do the cleaning and washing, umphff..

DD slept ok last night, well compared to the rest f the week it wasnt bad. Bed at 7.30 after feed and then I fed at 11.45, she woke at 1.30 as on belly and then fed at 3.00, she also woke up somewhere inbetween but I ignored her as it was DP's turn to get up and we both fell back asleep so im assuming so did dd. She also woke at 5 again. I brought her into bed but she cried so in the end I put her back in her cot but she cried harder so I got her back into bed and fed her to sleep. Im sure the 3am waking is due to habit as last night I fed her later at 11.45 and she still woke at 3.00

Decided to give her baby rice today. Ive ummed and arrred over it all week and didnt know what to do. Shes 19 weeks old.
She was like a baby sparrow, mouth wide open. I did 2 cubes of baby rice and assumed I would throw most of it out. She ate it all. She grabbed the spoon and put it straight in her mouth. She didnt spit any out and kept opening her mouth for more. I just hope ive done the right thing.

WEve been swimming today which she loved, although her bum kept floating so it was difficult to keep her level in the water.

I also bought a door bouncer. Shes in it at the mo. She was uncertain at first but now shes just turning herself in circles and watching her feet.

Egypt she probably wore herself out in France and is now catching up on some sleep just like your DH.

DD's developed a red blotch on her leg. Hope this wasnt the baby rice. Think it may just be where dp attempted to put her in the bouncer. Ill keep a eye on it.

Oh and DP just shouted to me ' wheres the dishwasher powder' Me 'its in a container under the sink' I bought the dishwasher powder a month ago which just goes to show how long ago he last loaded the dishwasher!!

Is it ok to heat the baby food in the microwave??

GeorginaA · 09/10/2004 17:36

Yes, it's okay to heat baby food in the microwave, kbaby, although stir well and make sure it's cool enough. I tended to heat it a bit hot then wait x minutes until it was cool enough (test a tiny bit on your lip for best temperature check).

Bought some bowls/spoons etc for ds2 ready. I had this bright idea I could have them ready for him to play with for a few weeks to get him used to them. I got this cup from mothercare which is cool - but I'm being a bit thick... for a young baby do you want flow rate to be slower or faster?!!

Going to get those icecube things from blooming marvellous too I think...

I've seen the highchair I want this time around, and it's only £35. It's a really lightweight travel high chair, and the seat bits come off for cleaning. The folding mechanism folds one-handed and I saw them do it in the shop. So hopefully it won't dominate the dining room like the old one used to do! It's this one ... what do you think?

Egypt · 09/10/2004 19:06

i would say slowflow georgina. but i'm not certain. if its the same as teats then it is. i love it! gonna get one! (us lot must have so much similar stuff)

love the chair too. what a fold away. dh's dad bought us a booster seat highchair, so i wont copy you on that one

well despite the 5 hour 'nap' today dd went to sleep 15 mins ago . thank god. hoping she was just catching up on her sleep like you say cat. dh is on his way home with curry and a bottle of wine - his penance for playing golf all afternoon. mmmmm

got me icecube trays too, today. i seem to have ordered 60.!!!!oops, thought i had only ordered 3, but one set seems to be 2, unless they have sent me too many. oh well, lots to freeze then!

GeorginaA · 09/10/2004 19:08

I've ordered 2 packs of those icecube trays ... oh well, we're going to have to be making food months in advance, aren't we

SusiS · 09/10/2004 21:16

pheww finally back! spent all day in diy shops and transporting stuff forwards and backwards. ds was not very happy - but i'll make up for it tomorrow!!!
welcome back egypt - dd probably was too much to take in in france! but she certainly is making up for lack of sleep
bozza: don't they just look cute with 2 little teeth - did you get to shop in the end?
kbaby: yes, know the "sparrow" feeling too
and your lo seems to be a secret twin of mine - wakes at 1.30 on tummy and wants feeding 3ish
babybouncer is great! just know now "never put into bouncer after feeding"
georgina: i am after a highchair. can't be very much longer to go before ds can use it! like the one you posted
and icecube trays are great!!! i also got (unexpected) 2x 2trays - but i need more - 1butternut squash fills one tray - go figure!

ds was really great today. poor little boy was almost all the time in his carseat - while we were driving in van (dp drove) i fed ds veggies (didn't want him to miss out on solids again) - was a bit messy
we finally came home at 5.30 and he was quite grumpy - understandably! i just managed to feed him his fruitpuree and soon after he only wanted his bed!! asleep since 7.30 - let's see how the night goes ...
hope everybody is doing well

Bozza · 09/10/2004 21:34

Yes I can see that I was very unclear Can assure you all that the chances of anything like that happening are very remote.

Yes I got to go shopping - but with DH, DS and DD (we decided she is no longer contagious) so hardly my break from family life that I had hoped for. But bought DD two hats which couldn't really have done without her there. Have sort of made up with DH but slightly peeved that there is no problem with him playing golf every Saturday afternoon but its a major thing for me to go shopping for a couple of hours.

Georgina I would say slow-flo too. Did you get rid of your first high chair? DH has made me keep mine and its huge and clumsy and horrible. Having said that it reclines and DD has been sitting in there at mealtimes for a few weeks. Has proved quite handy while she's been poorly and we've been spoon feeding her water.

Egypt - 60 trays???

Kbaby I always used the microwave for baby food. But as Georgina says watch for hot spots.

GeorginaA · 09/10/2004 22:47

No, we didn't get rid of the first one, it's sitting in the garage currently festering. I loathe it as you could never get it really clean and lots of nooks and crannies for food to get trapped down. Trying to persuade dh that £35 isn't that much to replace it with something that would be eminently practical. However, we've just spent about 80 quid today (new shoes for ds1, feeding stuff, blooming marvellous order...) so I might have my work cut out

Egypt · 10/10/2004 07:59

no bozza - 6 trays, 60 individualy compartments. they come out you see and you have to individually wash them! as i now have a dishwasher full of little tubs! i am determined to use them all!

well, unexpectedly after a 5 hour nap yesterday, dd did a good night. she did wake a couple of times until 8pm, then 10.30, then 3.50 then 7.30, so only once in the night really ahhhhhhhhh

SusiS · 10/10/2004 08:07

blimey!!! we had a good night too
ds went down at 6.30; i fed him at 9.30 and he woke only once!!! at 4.30; and was not really keen on his milk - and then he woke 7 with talking and giggling!
also i woke twice at his "normal" wakingtimes; must be my inner clock rolling eyes icon - have to reset it
so i actually got 6 (in words: six) hours uninterrupted sleep!!! first time in about 9 months!?!?! wohheeeyyyy
but no party yet; we'll have to wait and see.

we decided to go out later and have brekky out (big english one) then dp wants to go to a computer fair (once a month here in town) and then we need to go shopping (need bigger nappies ; after 3 nights in a row he woke up in a wet suit ) - and i also want to go to johnlewis; saw them faboulus hipseats!!!!!!! he is just getting soooooo heavy exhausted icon

hmm, maybe i should get started then

Sandi102 · 10/10/2004 10:17

hi all, terrible night again of ooohhhh and aaahhh's. Do you think he's in some kind of tummy pain? I only give fruit puree for tea.

kbaby, your baby is leading you and showing she's ready to wean. ds was exactly the same. He's crap at taking his milk, but loves his solids. yesterday i had to practically force the daily min. amount into him. He only had 4oz at breakfast, 1oz at lunch, 7oz at 3.30 and 5 oz at 7.0. I then decided to give 5oz at 10.30 which he drank. this morning i gave him half a jar of cereal and strawberry fruit and he took that all and wanted more, but i am limiting his intake. Should i be doing esp. since he hardly takes his milk. When do you think they can start taking a full jar? 6 months?

georgina, i looked for large ice cube trays everywhere and i got lucky with a pack of 6 small pots with lids (ideal for small meals and large meals from morrisons. and they were buy one get one free. The lids are in different colours too, so i colour code his meals.

susi, great ti hear you had a good night. ds just doesn't seem to settle through the night, like he used to.

bozza, when ur dd cut their tooth did she keep you up at night? What did you use to soothe the teething pain?

Egypt · 10/10/2004 11:41

i keep getting myself muddled up with you two, sandi and susi. ! anyway, glad you had a good night susi. despite it i am knackered![confused face] - must ask tech to put one of those on here. went back to bed at 10 when dh got up!

dd asleep now. one hour later than usual. anyway, sandi i dont know how to answer your q's re; food, cos i have no idea myself. but i do know that milk should still be the main part of their diet and the solids extras at this stage. not replacments. you're doing good to get him to take his minimum requirement of milk and a good idea to give him a feed at 10ish just to take more. do you feed him during night much? dont forget that counts.

dd loved her pawpaw with babyrice yesterday. she got v excited each time she saw the spoon,, shoved it in her mouth, hands too. food up her face, over her eyes.....love it!

i'm still giving just one solid feed a day, is that ok? and varying tastes every few days though. should i be giving her 2 meals now? (am aware that advice is not to wean until 6 months so somehow trying not to give more).

Sandi102 · 10/10/2004 12:47

hi egypt, i'm giving 2 meals, only small amounts (2-3) cubes and had just started giving breakfast. I checked with HV and she said this was ok. Just be led by baby. but in my case ds would not know when to stop with solids. wheras with milk he's so stubborn!

i gave up feeding in the night, because he just didn't want to feed.

isn't it fun though? i used to get so depressed because he wouldn't drink his milk in my arms, but since taking solids we're both so much happier. So i don't mind getting messy. (but my MIL does!)

Sandi102 · 10/10/2004 13:13

i'm supposed to be working on my dissertation proposal, but have no motivation.

Egypt · 10/10/2004 13:51

what's your dissertation on? what do you do?

SusiS · 10/10/2004 15:19

pheww finally back! these weekends getting stressy!!!

re solids: i gave one feed for about 2-3 weeks (various tastes), then dinner too - and just recently started on brekky (4wks later) - he loves whatever i shove into his mouth
just diff. sometimes esp. when you are out to feed solids! but i still try to stick to it! he eats about 3 of them big cubes; yday i didn't have any fruits so he got a jar. he demolished one of them small jars at once - well, he doesn't look so well from nothing
bought some frozen berries today; might give that for brekky; with ricecereals.

i think ds is teething again! always chewing on hand and lotsof dribbling!! a few times he even had watergushes come out of his mouth
using bonjela atm but not sure if it helps. heard some use a powder or oil?

besides that ds is ahappy chap - still cant roll back and still finds it funny to call me every 2 min to turn him over rolling eyes icon
he also tries to grab everything he can get hold of ;/l,k,;.//k.,0-,llm gbn m c fbs he just typed that

so, have to order a few things online
still need bigger grobags, more icecube trays and that hipseat

Sandi102 · 10/10/2004 15:36

egypt, i'm a librarian, managing mobiles and housebound library service. I used to manage the toy library and Bookstart too, but my role has since changed and the Early years services are now grouped together under one section. My employers are funding my degree in information studies. I'm in my final year and my dissertaion is on recruitment and retention in public libraries. The last 5 years have been a real hard slog. ds1 was only 10 months when i started and now ds2 is nearly 6 months. It's not so bad now that i;m on maternity leave, but dreading going back to work in a way, because i'll have less time to commit to the dissertation. i can't wait for it to be over though, so that i can really spend some quality time with all my family, without having to worry about coursework and exams.

Sandi102 · 10/10/2004 15:40

susi, i just bought the next size grobag 6-36 months. how much does your ds weigh and how many weeks is he? I was contemplating whether or not to give a full jar, as i've only been giving half. I know he'll take it, but must consider his milk intake, as he's just about only taking the min. amounts.

Amfs · 10/10/2004 15:43

blimey o'reilly .. I just used that pregnancy calculator thingy (remember that one guys from pg threads ) to work out how old DD is in weeks .. and she'll be 23 weeks on Tuesday ... wow .. where did the time go?

So 3 more weeks to weaning

She's still fat and content and just delicious .. I really want to eat her

Egypt .. I've only used calgel on DD (and DS) and it seems to work .. the powders are Ashton & palmers teething powders I think

Sandi102 · 10/10/2004 15:54

and you can nelson's teetha granules.
