Wouldn't we all be a nightmare on a rare ladies only night out?!

Egypt- yeah it is olan mills. The pics are nice but they are expensive to buy in a set aren't they?!
Kiera is till wearing dresses, as most of them do kind of cover her legs, and i just add socks and a blanket. And a cardi also.

Susi- Kiera just isn't a giggler or a smiler, so it's kinda hard to tell what her favourite game is! She does sometimes do a giggle when we wiggle her feet franticly, which makes dp and i laugh manicly
Hope Ds is okay tonight, and his temp stays down.

Righty that's it for me as well, i will see you all tomorrow. Take care!

ok I admit I put tights on DD. No frilly or lazy tights mind. Nice ones from next to match her dresses. Im addicted to shopping at next and tend to get the outfits that all match. Apart from a few dresses we've got jeans, pink cords and cream cords.I think DD has nappy rash. Never seen it before but it looks like a friction burn. Its on her bum cheek and its red and weepy. Any of you experienced mums recognise it as nappy rash. She did have a poo after her baby rice so could it be the baby rice in her poo that did it??
Spoke to my HV today as Im still unsure about weaning dd to solids but she said I look knackered and that 6 months is only a guideline. As long as I dont reduce the milk then to start.

Bozza · 11/10/2004 21:51

Egypt I had a thread a while back about the dresses/tights things. I dress DD in her dresses with the woolly tights - no harder to pull down the tights than trousers for nappy changes IMO.

My friend called unexpectedly today with two bin bags of clothes, handed them over and went. So I've been sorting them out. Also been to Parent's Evening at DS's nursery.

Decided to start weaning DD this weekend. Which meal do you think is best? I know lunch is conventional but was considering tea. Opinions Please!

Also because DD is starting nursery (will be approx 8 til 6 inc travelling 3 days a week) I'm having to give her the bottle during the day. I'm going to try and express for as long as possible (hopefully til 6 months) but don't know how much milk she will need. Anyone any thoughts?

kbaby sounds like nappy rash to me.

GeorginaA · 11/10/2004 22:00

Bozza - I've been told that most babies (until about 6 months or so) drink approx 25-30ml breastmilk a day. So, split that roughly between the number of feeds there are in the day, but also be prepared for the fact that babies a) tend to drink a bit more from bottles because it's quicker and they like their sucking needs met too and b) they don't necessarily take equal volume feeds each feeds - that's the average for the day.

So, by trial and error, I've found that ds2 takes about 6oz breastmilk from a bottle at the 10.30 feed.

Does that help?

spots · 11/10/2004 22:27

Georgina, that's also useful for me... thank you.

Tights... I love them!! When we were down in London I bought some green ones, red ones and purple ones. I just think they're the sweetest sight in the world, with her little baby legs and her big bumfly nappy. OK, in Scotland it's a little colder. But I've had DD in tights at the first hint of a brown leaf.

We play loads of games without toys; currently her favourite is me shaking my head against her so that she gets a hair-tickle. She also thinks it's quite funny that I sort of disappear when I shake my head (in a whirr of activity!) and then reappear. Having said that, she doesn't really 'get the hang' of peekaboo. Think Lucas sounds very sociable and advanced! Hope his temp. is OK.

I am planning a baby party for all my friends who've had babies this year. Any of you lot want to come...?

GeorginaA · 11/10/2004 22:34

oh F*CK ... I mean OZ ... NOT ML!!!!! SORRY!

spots · 11/10/2004 22:36

Libb... how did it go today?

GeorginaA · 11/10/2004 22:37

Oh yes libb - I was thinking of you today, hope all went well.

libb · 11/10/2004 22:50

It was cool although my colleague fell over on to her 8 month old twin bump . I am going to text her tomorrow and see how her checkup went . . . It didn't take me long to start giving my lovely mate Tom grief either

Spots, we play the hair game too - although he has learnt that grabbing it makes an interesting noise!

GeorginaA, thanks for the milk amount advice - my childminder wanted to know how much DS gets and was met with a blank face last week. I haven't expressed all today and managed to get out 7ozs this evening (my colleague was concerned about the explosion factor!) - this morning I fed from 1 side and expressed the other, and then did the same this evening. Today the childminder phoned to say that he took Cow and Gate! little monkey, I bought a second pump too . . . although he did bring a lot of it up this evening so I am not relying on it too much. It is all suck and see isn't it? or rather sick it and see. I got some Aptimal so will see how that takes . . .

My head hurts from all the thinking but I feel oddly rejuvenated. Thanks for asking and for thinking about me, I was like an octopus when I got home trying to sort everything out for the next onslaught tomorrow (plus catching up with the day's comments!) so any tips would be ace!

we're getting our new central heating today, which will free up some space in the kitchen so we decided to get a dryer! Hurray!

rant, rant, rant at MIL last night. She tells me off for warming up baby foods in the microwave. Can someone please confirm that they'res nothing wrong in doing this.

susi, i hope the temp. stayed daown last night. ds only got up once at 2.30 had a feed and went back to sleep an hour later.

bozza, i started on baby rice and ds became v.windy on it, so gave pureed carrot and then introduced apple mixed with formula milk.

hope all have a day

Amfs · 12/10/2004 07:34

well technically you're not supposed to use the microwave because of the chance of hot spots

But .. microwave cooking actually retains more vitamins than conventional boiling (not steaming though I believe)

and as long as you stir it properly there's no problems

just smile sweetly at MIL and say 'oh thanks for advice' then continue doing whatever you want to do .. you cannot get other people to butt out of how you want to raise your kids, whatever you do

Amfs · 12/10/2004 07:39

Libb ... so glad work went well .. and at least he's taking down a formula feed

I wouldn't worry about the sicking it back up yet ... one thing I did once .. yes actually did it ... was take an egg cup full of milk and poured it out on a tea-towel just to see what kind of spread it got .. and they're right, it always looks a hell of a lot more than it is

Can't you log on at work?

One thing I did do when I went back to work with DS is start relying on the organix jars of baby food .. although I did at the beginning used to empty them into a plastic pot so it looked like I was a good mother still cooking .. didn't harm DS any .. also he got loads of different varieties that I'd never have got round to cooking

Amfs · 12/10/2004 07:40

BTW .. everyone here knows who I am don't they??? (not in RL .. old posting name?)

GeorginaA · 12/10/2004 08:26

No.... who are you again?

spots · 12/10/2004 08:51

Complete blank here too Georgina.shakes head in puzzlement

spots · 12/10/2004 08:52

shakes amfs' big toe under muslin

spots · 12/10/2004 08:54

..........peekaboo!

SusiS · 12/10/2004 09:07

you ladies have been busy

just put ds down for his morning nap now i've got time to catch up before i start with housework

temp stayed down (thx everybody) and we are back to normal! fed him 10; woke up 2/4/5/7 - don;t know which one i prefer hmmm
nawww; i rather have a often waking healthy baby than a sleepthrough ill one!!! - then at least i get a huge smile in the morning when i go and pick him up

re feeding: can only tell you how we did it! started with lunch though, cause i thought tummy has to get used to a lot and didn't want him wake up all night. but even when i did tea too didn't make any difference
milkwise: ds gets formula so a bit easier with oz! guidline on package says 35oz in total! then again ds gets only 30oz (with 3meals/day but i don't think they make much of a difference) - he seems happy and he certainly looks healthy

lucas{http://www.photobox.co.uk/album/thumbnails.html?c_album=948648} hope it works this time!

foodwise: started off with babyrice; he didn't like it at all!!! he had jars in he beginning and he absolutly loved "carrot/potato" - still does - now i do my own purees and he likes carrots, sweet pot, broccoli, butt.squash, and any fruity one - i started with veggies though cause fruit he will always eat and i wanted him to get used to veggies first!!
but agreed on jars! i do both now! basic veggies myself and any fancier i buy - tried puree chicken once but it just looks weird confused icon - and jarwise ds loves cottage pie, anything chicken but no beef! -
and soon he won't need it anymore anyways! another month and he can start having "normal" food.

spots: would love to come to party but me things you are just a bit too far away for us - we are in b'shire

and you are right, lucas is very sociable. he just loves having people around and being talked to! he talks all day and sings too. and just laughes at everybody who pays attention to him - you think he's starting off with "male behaviour" already?????

since i've got longer hair it's always tied back but he still knows how to get hold of it grmpf
thinking about getting it cut now!
but i just look ridicoulus with short hair

libb: glad you had a good day - always nice to have a mate to wind up ;
and preparation is just everything!!! good girl pat on your shoulder - don't expect any tips from me! having a hard time to get everything sorted for going shopping
oh and hope your colleague is allright!!!

sandi: good call getting a dryer!!! dang, i am not looking forward getting our heating changed - we've got "warm air heating" at them moment and it's just &$%^£& - but have to overcome this winter and hopefully right after!
i wouldn't worry about warming up food in microwave! i do it and as everybody tells you: just check carefully of hot spots! and it's supposed to be healthier - pfffffffffff, bottlewarmer just takes aaaaaaages!!!

amfs? hmmmm amfs?? heard that name somewhere but can't remember. or have i??? i always thought there was something "doubleT" but might be wrong ...

btw, are you a sahm now?
ohh, and loved that "put jarfood in plastic ones...

SusiS · 12/10/2004 09:11
