Honestly now. Do you? In what circumstances?

OP posts:

That is so true Greensleeves - I say inappropriately harsh things to dd and ds sometimes (and I do regret them) but because most of the time I am their most vocal and ardent admirer they dismiss it as mum being grumpy and barely turn a hair

NorksBride · 02/03/2007 23:59

Yes I do. Quite often probably. We are a big outdoorsy shouty family. I also say 'oh do be quiet' and 'shushh' but only if they're close enough to hear me.

People in big houses have their own rules [stick-out tongue emoticon] I blame my parents.

handlemecarefully · 03/03/2007 00:00

sunnywong - we like being blunt and direct in our household. It's feels honest and real. We are quite raw and open with our emotions - good and bad. I see that as no bad thing tbh

dd2 has a twirly habit, thing is she will often throw herself on the floor and do it just where i am walking and i have tripped over her so often (its literally quick as flash one minute she is standing upright next she is twirling on the floor). i did shout at her the other day as i had a hot cup of tea, and i have asked her not to do it when i am walking. she got really upset as i shouted, i felt really bad so i pointed that if i did fall on her she would be flat as a pancake as mummy has a big bottom. that made her laugh and we had a hug.

Pann · 03/03/2007 00:02

yes, but 'shut up' is just plain rude.

handlemecarefully · 03/03/2007 00:04

No, it's not plain rude, it's just 'plain' (as in unadorned, to the point, unequivocal)

heya123 · 03/03/2007 00:05

ok now you will say "wait till he gets older" and all that stuff he is only 11 months old but he is my life and i love him more than i ever thought it was possible to love another human being.
Yes everyone has bad days bu you can choose how you deal with them, i just dont believe i would say things like that not even "shut up" to him as hes growing up.
i would be totally mortified if i ever said it and yes we are human mothers not machines but you can discipline a child for doing wrong in positive rather than negitive ways.
just my opinion you dont have to agree withme! lol!

pirategirl · 03/03/2007 00:07

Have said it, and not liked the way it sounded, but it has only ever been when i am at the end of my rope.

Have been know to walk away from her mouthing 'oh just f off to myself after being TOLD to get something or bring something for her or when we have had a picky debate about soemthing.

Did this in front of my friend the other day and she fell about, and just 'knew' where i was coming from.

Sometimes my dd makes me feel like saying 'yes your majesty', curtsying and running out of the the room to a waiting cab bound for the airport. ooh just imagine!!

NotanOtter · 03/03/2007 00:07

wait till he gets older

misdee · 03/03/2007 00:07

no i dont agree with you lol. nobody is perfect.

misdee · 03/03/2007 00:08

pirategirl, have also muttered choice words to myself.

handlemecarefully · 03/03/2007 00:09

Rest assured I don't agree with you heya

Sorry, but I really do think that you can't know how you will react until you get there. Your 11 month old is pre-verbal / pre-tantrum / pre- hugely testing behaviour!

handlemecarefully · 03/03/2007 00:10

Not that it will matter to you, but you would have hugely more credibility if you posted that as the proud mother of a 3 year old.

Greensleeves · 03/03/2007 00:10

Guess what, heya? We ALL love our children as much as you love yours. Honestly

You'll find it quite difficult to live up to this model of perfect motherhood when he's older.

hunkermunker · 03/03/2007 00:10

Heya, we all love our children utterly.

But...wait till he gets older

misdee · 03/03/2007 00:10

its only now dd3 is 2 that she joins in with the screeching. at 11months she was all sweetness and light. ah i would love to go back to those days.

misdee · 03/03/2007 00:12

i love all of my children with all of my heart. they are my life, reason for getting up in the morning (even if dd3 does it by sitting on my head yellling POO POOO).

hunkermunker · 03/03/2007 00:12

Heya, I do think it's good that you want to be a good mum to him - but I've read a couple of other posts from you on other threads and I do think (and I mean this so kindly, you'll never know) that if you keep referring to him as "advanced" for doing things many, many other children his age manage perfectly well, you won't have a happy time on MN.

I really do mean that kindly - please take it in that spirit.

Greensleeves · 03/03/2007 00:13

DS1 this evening, tucked up in his little bed after two chapters of Faraway Tree, kisses, cuddles, Eskimo kisses, hair-stroking and the promise of a nice day out tomorrow:

"In the morning, Mummy, I am going to hit Daddy. Before breakfast."

Bless

misdee · 03/03/2007 00:13

lol GS!

handlemecarefully · 03/03/2007 00:14

Honestly, she does mean it kindly - she generally is quite kind (with the occasional lapse)

(talks about hunker as if she isn't there)

hunkermunker · 03/03/2007 00:14

Aw, Greeny What a poppet

heya123 · 03/03/2007 00:14

i know all that and i know hes only a baby yet but hes my son and i never want to upset him by telling him to "shut up" or anything like that.
maybe i am being slightly naive but it just fills me with horror because i never want to be anything like my dad was with me and my brother because i have no happy childhood memories from home life and i want to give my son the best childhood so that when hes all grown up he will look back at the memories and remember all he good times and not any bad.

handlemecarefully · 03/03/2007 00:15

Snort! I love that image Greensleeves

heya123 · 03/03/2007 00:16

greensleeves;
that what your little one said did make me giggle!
