Honestly now. Do you? In what circumstances?

Yes, too much probably.

Yes, when theyb won't shut up, and I've asked them to be quite, I say, shut up! What's wrong with that? Why should I beat myself up about it? There's a lot worse you can say, which I don't

Or even quiet

And surely it's not the words you use but how you use them that matter. I normally say "shut up, please", not yell it across the street like a fishwife (whatever one of those is.) I really don't see the problem.

i say please be quiet to dd, or just ignor her, she has learnt shut up from her aunties and uncles (5 of them ranging between 17yo and 9yo) and it drives me up the wall. shes only 2 and if shes in a mood she shouts shut up! at least its not swearing but i hate it!

I'm not yet in a position to say what I do as DS is only 1, but I can imagine it might slip out under pressure. I'd try to avoid it. However, I shall be much more conscientious not to do what my sister-in-law does which is tell her children (11 and 8) to get lost or bugger off. And she wonders why her dd has a terrible attitude problem.
