I have just seen the NCT statement admitting that using the NCT Bednest cot with the side half-way down whilst you sleep next to the cot presents a risk of death to your baby!

However, this was exactly how NCT told parents to use it!

Just to respond to the question 'what's my beef' and the silly tin hats comment:

The tragedy was April 2015 and NCT have waited until the end of November 2015 (7 months) before finally warning parents. In the meantime, to NCT's knowledge, Bednest have slashed their prices to sell as many of these cots as possible.

Does it really take take NCT a 'leading charity' 7 months to work out that a baby can get its head over the edge and that the cot is dangerous?

Also, NCT continued telling parents there was no fault with the cot until late October 2015.

NCT now admit they were telling mums to use the cot in a way that risk killing babies (e.g. telling and showing mums it was safe to sleep with the cot's half-fold down - which many mums have done).

NCT have carefully avoided explaining to mums that NCT's original instructions (as per their photos/videos) was entirely wrong and exposed babies to a risk of death.

So - shame on NCT and Bednest!

You are coming off kinda crazy. They sold a product that the experts said was safe. When a problem occurred, they had other experts do more tests and have now told everyone what those tests said and how to make it safer.

A baby died tragically and accidentally, so now the advice has been changed.

you are getting tin hat comments because you do have a very obsessive posting style and it's not clear what you're hoping to achieve

If you read the NCT announcement, the reason for the "delay" was because the NCT were obtaining expert reports from a furniture expert and a consultant paed.

I don't know the ins and outs of the very sad death of the baby but it maybe the case that the coroner did not make a definitive finding about the usage of the bednest. That being the case, further expert evidence had to be obtained.

I remember OP's previous thread and I believe OP has some other issues either in their own mental health or around this tragedy. I don't think it's on to hurl insults like "unhinged" in these circumstances.

My point is that NCT seem to be trying to avoid admitting the fact that as a result of their marketing/instructions, a cot has been used in a way that led to the death of a baby.

NCT have not gone out of their way to inform parents of this risk and Bednest waited a further week before announcing the risk of death to people on their website. This is why I have posted this information.

OP, you're not telling the truth here. The very sad case of the baby who died: the second hand cot had not been used correctly, with it tilted far higher than it was supposed to be. The baby had also been placed to sleep face down, against all general recommendations AND against the instructions on the cot.
Why are you blaming the NCT when someone wrongly used a cot that is made by another company?

I think NCT needed to speak on this well before now but the truth is is that the parents used the cot wrong and against all advise they put the baby face down. A tragic tragic accident. The NCT is not fully to blame on this.

WhatI don't get is how you're meant to wake up every time your baby turns onto their stomach?

Mine would never stay on their backs. It isn't like you put them down a certain way up and they stay there, is it?

I don't understand how it can be a case of having to make sure they are a certain way up or they are in danger from this piece of equipment.

Please do not accuse me of lying. I read the report, the cot had an additional 3cm of tilt and there is no evidence this contributed to the death.

As to the suggestion that the leaving a baby in the prone position contributed to the death, this is the same thing as saying that as soon as a baby turns over the cot becomes lethal. If anyone is saying this they are clearly a moron.

This is a joint NCT/Bednest product. It was known as the "NCT BEDNEST" as part of NCT's Select range. NCT did all the marketing and produced the videos showing the cot to be used in the way that they now admit exposes babies to a risk of them getting their necks over the edge and dying. Which is precisely what happened to the baby who died.

People should be careful for blaming the parents for using a cot in a way that NCT and Bednest told them to use it (half-way fold down) when NCT now admit that using the cot in this way can kill babies. Why is this so hard for people to accept?
