explaining gay sex

My nearly 10 year old ds has just asked me how 2 men can have sex bloody Coronation street I explained the sex thing to him a couple of years ago, I subtly cowardly changed the subject, but I could see he was pondering the 'mechanics' he then seemed to have a 'light bulb' moment and hit the nail on the head, I confirmed he was correct, he didn't seem particularly perturbed and has gone to bed to finish Gangsta Granny!

Has anyone else had this question at such a young age? I feel like the very basics of sex is enough at 10 but it seems like everything is happening younger nowadays Hmm

helenMN when you say "a bit bonkers" what do you mean? One poster has ridiculously uninformed views... Not trying to cause trouble, but why does the whole thread need to go? The poster has form for posting offensive comments!

Agree with AP, and with usual.

Deleting this thread - and the next, and the next - just seems like putting a tiny useless plaster on the grand canyon of wounds. Not really addressing the problem.

Why's everyone gone nuts about Nigella? She's not referred to paedophilia or suggested that all gay men have public sex, she's just said that she'd be concerned about sending a small son alone into public loos.

"and i am sorry to have offended anyone too, nonetheless it does happen."

Whwt happens? Gay men anally raping 8 year old boys in public loos? In Carnaby Street or anywhere else? As I said, wha do your "gay friends" think of your views?

Of course she has referred to paedophilia. She suggests her son would be at risk of rape from any man in a public loo, he's 8.

Confused

WTF

If somebody were to try do something to my sons, they would scream so loud and so piercingly, that all mirrors and windows within miles would shatter.

My 9yo knows- due to questioning, and my 6yo DD knows that they can and VERY vaguely. After my best friend had a civil partnership with his partner, DD and DS were talking about the baby bit together, DS knows the male/female sex. The younger two (both 5) have no idea or thought about it at all.

If the thread is deleted all it means that some of the very scarily reactionary and homophobic attitudes on here are swept under the carpet.

Glucose you also suggested that your friend's little boy was gay because he is "quite feminine".....

I think you got it just right OP. Perhaps if/ when he asks about lady love you could explain that sex, betweeen couples of any gendr, doesn't always involve penetration.

If only Corrie producers knew, eh?!

Martorana · 17/03/2014 21:57

Oh, and that I have "issues around my sexuality" because I object to homophobia!

If the thread gets deleted the message should make it clear it was nothing to do with the OP.

I was surprised that such a sensible woman seemed to think that their are men hanging around toilets waiting to pounce on children.
The child in question is feminine. Two issues..please feel free to have a sense of humour over my heterosexual tendency...I am sure gay people have humour about straight folk...I know what do gay men and single mothers have in common...married men.

Yes she has, knickers. i told mine when he was 8 and wanted to know why he could not use the public men's loos alone. he was so insistent and so argumentative and so questioning that in the end i just told him

Why can't her son use the toilets alone? Because of gay sex, that's why

Confused

MN, leave the thread. There's a fine line between deleting all racist, homophobic posts etc and leaving one side of an argument and not allowing people to discuss or berate anything.
