I've been scouting around the site for a few weeks, looking for info on parentnig issues (soon to be stepmother) and I was wondering how do you bear to talk like this about your family members? What's wrong with you all??

yeah, shocking isn't it? Sometime I actually call DS "darling" to his face! Anyone would think I actually love him... Hmm

It's quick and convenient. Obviously.

Bluegrass · 07/12/2012 14:21

Do you think the vast majority of people actually think "darling husband" when they read (or write) "dh" or similar? Really?

It is shorthand, and 2 letters together like "DH" is easier to spot and interpret than random single letters in a post ie just "h", or "c".

I'm sure you all love your precious sprogs dearly but you don't have to broadcast it in every flippin message, surely? Barf-fest.

I call them darling, sweetheart etc to their face as well as use the shorthand on mumsnet. dont see the problem..

HECTheHallsWithRowsAndFolly · 07/12/2012 14:27

Not all of us do. (I don't, for example. Although I'm tempted to start now...)

And probably many of those who do, just use the shorthand without actually thinking that much about it.

And the whole 'd' whatever thing isn't unique to mumsnet.

And - it doesn't matter. Not one teeny tiny bit.

Seems like you haven't read too many threads on here if you think all posts are us broadcasting our sickly sweet love for our children. I might suggest a venture in to AIBU instead of parenting.

monsterchild · 07/12/2012 14:28

When I use it, it also stands for Dang, Damn, Deranged...

Mumsnet isn't for everyone, Andula, but if I were you, I'd read a few threads first, before judging. You never know, you might like it!

Andula · 07/12/2012 14:32

Er. It's ironic.

Innit.

We don't acksherly use 'darling' thingy in our heads - it's just shorthand so that we can try and remember who we are talking about and make sense to others through our (and their) gin and fag addled haze.

If you want to insult luvlies, there's plenty of that to be had over on hunsnet.

Don't let the door, etc etc.

Tistheseasontobedramatic · 07/12/2012 14:34

^^ What Sanity said.

Andula · 07/12/2012 14:34
