I've been scouting around the site for a few weeks, looking for info on parentnig issues (soon to be stepmother) and I was wondering how do you bear to talk like this about your family members? What's wrong with you all??

I call my family members 'darling' quite a lot. But I don't like the DH etc stuff on here either and I find that the minute someone discovers I use this site there is loads of mocking just because of this one issue, just like the mocking of the sparkly 'nethuns' that takes place here. When I post I try to avoid the 'D's but feel like I am lacking manners because that is what is customary and I am a guest. Oh D

InNeedOfBrandyButter · 07/12/2012 14:53

Well well well OP don't get your knickers in a twist, no need to be so angry you need to resort to violence is there? Smile

tethersjinglebellend · 07/12/2012 14:56

Hang on, are you really cross with parents on a parenting forum for loving their children? Or with shorthand? If it's the latter, I'd give the rest of the internet a wide berth if I were you.

I think we should be told.

wtaf there's an acronym for you

oh I really can't be bothered.....

zoobaby · 07/12/2012 15:56

Haha - my DarlingPartner saw a Mumsnet page once and commented "DH? Why is she calling him a D*Head?"

GreatCongas · 07/12/2012 16:00

It's Internet wide though innit
I used 'd' as a prefix before I ever came on mn and I've been here ten years.

Fairylea · 07/12/2012 16:03

Doesn't have to be darling... could be dickhead partner... diabolical children... disdainful mother...

Can be whatever you like as long as we all know who we are on about !

Andula · 07/12/2012 16:15

haha, perfect!

andula is a funny one with a head like a pickled onion a nose like a squashed tomato and flat fish for feet.

SuzySheepSmellsNice · 07/12/2012 16:18

what a D

feel free to interpret that as you will Wink

tethersjinglebellend · 07/12/2012 16:23

Arf at 'bell end' Grin

CaseyShraeger · 07/12/2012 16:24

You do realise DH, DS, DD, DC aren't actually MN terms, don't you? They are pretty constant across parenting sites all over the Internet, dating back long before MN was invented.

But as D also stands for devilspawn it works for me.

For your own safety, please stay away from Other Parenting Sites, though. They tend to talk about "babydancing" (having sex), "babydust" (fuck only knows) and so forth, and I'm guessing that isn't entirely your cup of tea. MN is far less tolerant of twee acronyms than most other places.

VisualiseAHorse · 07/12/2012 16:25

I say LO rather than DS - but I do actually call him little one sometimes anyway.

It's just an abbreviation.
