right

  1. this is for any kid over hte age of 2
  2. imo the best age ie 2 - 2.5
  3. there is NO going bakc
do not start if oyu are going ot poof out
  1. remmeber it is hard work - hence hte training - yes life will be more difficult for a couple of weeks
  2. do NOT use pull ups for day time naps or anythin short of a 2 hour journey
  3. night training is a wholey seperate issue

how do i do it
you go COLD TURKEY - this is vital

you stay in for the first couple of days

you take them to the loo as oftne as you see fit - say every 30 mins

DO NOT ASK THEM -TAKE HTEM

distract them byt a story or sweets for weeing int he correct place ( or telling you at anytiem they need it even if they then miss the loo)

mine wer e never bothered by pottys - try the loo it makes life easier and more hygenic imfo

It's hard work at first but so satisfying when it clicks and they get it Smile.

I'm sure I wouldn't have stuck to it without knowing cod was there to tell me off Grin.

Ah ha, looks like I've been following most of this advice - dd1 has been put on the potty every half hour or so and is now mentioning when she needs to do a wee/poo about 1/3 of the time.

We haven't been out but might go for a quick walk around town tomorrow if weather is fine.

I am using a potty this week but mean to buy a trainer seat and stepstool for next week. Dd1 is finding it hard to pull knickers up and down atm although we've practised, so that's my next target.

JoolsToo · 08/04/2006 14:25

happy days! - not Grin

good luck mummies!

4blue1pink · 08/04/2006 14:29

Bingostingo - very good list.
i am actually quite a good potty trainer ( my only good parenting point!)
I have trained mine at 20 months - 19 months - 26 months and 24 months all quite easily.
Its no fun but in my book the main rule is once out never back in - rather a wet car seat than a nappy!
Good luck all of you!

kidstrack2 · 08/04/2006 14:30

glad i'm past this stage now, good luck everyoneGrin i had a thread somewhere when dd was trained, if anyone wants a wee look at it!

Not this time Cod - DS only 18 months but I'll be right there on your next one!

wessexgirl · 08/04/2006 19:47

I'm in, but things are going pretty well so far. Day 2 and no wet knickers at all today, yay!

Anyone got any tips for dealing with potty training at the same time as caring for a younger baby (who is bf 3-4 times a day)? It's hard going and dd2 has been a bit neglected these last couple of days.

fuzzywuzzy · 08/04/2006 19:49

me me me, actually dd she's 3, we've got pooh's in the toilet fine, it's just weeing, she wont go until physically hauled onto the toitlet

HellyBelly · 08/04/2006 20:38

I'm in. Ds has just turned 3 and as mentioned on another thread, have tried before but had problems with him screaming for a nappy in panic so was advised to leave it.

Today was day 1 and we were actually out for most of it (unplanned). Staying in tomorrow so will keep putting on potty! He did 1 tiny poo in potty earlier so made a huge fuss but he does seem to have a problem with wees. On potty for ages, gets off and has one or I advise him to sit on potty for a bit, he said doesn't need to go and then 2 mins later, wees on sofa Grin

As we're now in tomorrow (cancelled plans!) I will make sure he keeps sitting on the potty until we have a result!! He really wants to wee in the potty as he wants his chocolate button Wink

He was quite upset tonight as pull up was not comfy but I said we have no nappies (I refuse to go back to the nappies we had, want the nearest thing to pants but JUST for night time!!!). Tbh, I think it's more that big boy pants are more comfy Wink.

Suppose I need to cancel toddlers etc. next week? Bit of a bugger as I'm a childminder and usually take the kids out and about. Sure parents will understand :)

Passionflower · 08/04/2006 20:48

Count me in to start on Monday.

I'd like to put my name down, with monkeytrousers - that's name down, not trousers down,
for the next one - presumably summer ?

TopBanana · 09/04/2006 18:04

Hi, can I join? Dd is 2.7. Started on Saturday but not doing too well. Could do with some help!
She will happily sit on the potty but will hold it in for hours. When it eventually gets too much it will start to trickle out little bits at a time and she’ll run and sit on the potty. But, after about 20 mins there will be a huge gush!! She doesn’t tend to make for that.
Have tried making her sit on it for longer but she gets bored very easily. She goes to nursery Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday so will tell them not to put a nappy on her but if she has too many accidents I think they will.

HellyBelly · 09/04/2006 19:19

Can't really offer advice as my ds only started on Saturday and although I've also trained one of my mindees (she was 2.5 at the time), she was very easy and 'got it' straight away. Having said that, when the novelty wore off she did go through a phase of having to be changed lots.

Would a nursery really put nappy on if you asked them not to??? I am a childminder and would never do this without permission from the parents as I'd hate to ruin what they are trying to do with their dd. Plus I would have thought that it would be easier for a nursery to deal with this as (correct me if I'm wrong) they are on site rather than out and about all the time.

By the way, it's VERY early days yet. I wouldn't be worried yet, it's only day 2! I'm at the same stage as you and my ds is now 3. I'm expecting a lot more accidents before it clicks into place! Wink

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress :)

Flip · 09/04/2006 19:24

Need the boot camp!!!!!!!

Just had a lovely turd on the floor of ds1's bedroom courtesy of ds2. Ds1 is not a happy chap and lucky for me daddy was around to deal as I throw up emptying a potty. Never mind picking up a warm steamer with a piece of toilet roll.

He's fine as long as he's naked. Will go to the potty for a wee and then come and tell me it's done. Put him in trousers and it's a whole other story. Pooing is also a big issue for him. He won't do it on the potty or the toilet. He get's a sticker/sweet for getting it right but so far, no poo sucess.

Help me please. He's going to pre-school very soon.

Flip · 09/04/2006 19:29

Forgot to mention. This is my third attempt and I'm serious this time. Even went to a toddlers on Friday where he weed in the ball pool. Lucky for me my friend helped out while I cleaned up. We're on day 5 of attempt three and I'm trying to strengthen my resolve.

TopBanana · 09/04/2006 19:42

Thanks HellyBelly Smile
Feeling much better now, dd came into the kitchen and gave me a potty full off wee Shock
Although now shes asking for a nappy to do a poo!

wessexgirl · 09/04/2006 20:22

Good luck to all starting tomorrow. First two days are GRIM but hang on in there! Day 3 and it's really coming together now.

ROFL at cod's pretending to phone people. I got the grandparents to come round in the afternoon and make a big thing about coming to see if it was really true dd1 was such a clever girl etc.

alittlebitshy · 09/04/2006 20:26

thanks!!!!

said bye bye pull ups at bed time, chose fairy knickers for the morning and has potty in room (her choice lol). oh, and knows perfectly well where the reward choccie butotns are Grin

and i am sooooooooo blinkin nervous. what if she won;t go in potty/on loo? what if it's wet knickers all the time? helllp (but i know not to go back, just doing the what ifs)

Flip · 09/04/2006 20:26

We send the wee wee down the toilet to granny and then phone to make sure she's got it.
