right

  1. this is for any kid over hte age of 2
  2. imo the best age ie 2 - 2.5
  3. there is NO going bakc
do not start if oyu are going ot poof out
  1. remmeber it is hard work - hence hte training - yes life will be more difficult for a couple of weeks
  2. do NOT use pull ups for day time naps or anythin short of a 2 hour journey
  3. night training is a wholey seperate issue

Helly Belly I would advise the "letting it all hang out" method and getting more pants later on Smile.

alittlebitshy · 10/04/2006 12:58

we had a wee IN THE POTTY!!!!!!!!!

loony mummy whooped round the room, with dd joining me shortly shouting "I'm clever"

it's a start!!

fuzzlepelts · 10/04/2006 13:00

Well done! Grin
Just off to collect my wee machine from nursery and will update you in the morning.

Melsy, yeah due 13th September and already massive!!

mistressmiggins · 10/04/2006 13:02

Can I try or is it too early?

DD is 22 mths - she tells me when shes done a wee and wants to THEN sit on the potty but hasnt done anything yet

does this sound like shes ready?

DS wasnt vaguely interested until well over 2yrs.,

fuzzywuzzy · 10/04/2006 13:05

we had a wee in the toilet this morning and dd1 has gone to nursery (where she always uses the loo anyhow...but for some reason does not at home), so will see how it goes when she comes back at 1pm

meysey · 10/04/2006 13:19

we're on day 2 with DS 26 months, who is sadly getting very stressed. he has been performing first thing in the morning on the potty for months now, but taking it that step further is difficult.

we had one wee standing up in the garden like a big boy

and lots of wet pants...

tell me it gets better!

Latz · 10/04/2006 13:33

Well day 1 not going too well.

Wet nappy this morning, changed into pants and she told me all about potty training i.e wee or poo in potty and choccy buttons and sticket.

Weed in kitchen then refusing to go to loo.

Another wet pants episode after her snack - lots of tears.

Now went into loo, took trainer seat off loo and washed her hands only to wee on the floor!

Aaah!!!!!!

Not going back though!

SHe is 2.5 btw

I need hugs though!

wessexgirl · 10/04/2006 14:34

(((latz))), with dd1 the first 2 days were incredibly hit and miss but on day 3 (yesterday) it just seemed to 'click' suddenly and she has been dry ever since. Hope it's going to continue!

lol at alittlebitshy, you sound like me on day 1; I was sooo bored and felt like a flippin parrot: "Let's sit on the potty" "Do you need a wee?" etc. etc. all day long. But when they do a wee in the potty you feel like you've won the lottery. (Well, maybe not the jackpot...a pony, perhaps Grin).

fuzzywuzzy · 10/04/2006 14:35

okaaay havign said dd1 goes toilet at nursery no problems, today she has peed for england and not in the toilet....

Still we managed two wee's in the toilet since then and now she's down for a nap.....

pooka · 10/04/2006 14:36

I'm a graduate (or rather dd is!) of Cod's last thread. Am so pleased that did it, even though first 3 days were pretty dire. keep up the good work - it's worth it in the end!

Flip · 10/04/2006 15:11

Well done to everyone who's stuck with it so far. This is my third and final attempt and I'm not going to give in this time.

So far today we had a dry nappy when he woke up this morning. Huge smelly wee on toilet and lots of praise. He's been in the same pair of underpants so far all day. We went out to the doctors and he had two wees in the doctors. Then we went out for breakfast to the pub and he another two wees in there. Told us each time. Then we went into town to the osteopath because dh put his back out the other day putting ds2 on the potty which is another story and very funny. Ds2 had two wees in the osteopath and then a wee when he got home and an attempt at a nap.

Was up and down from nap claiming he needed a poo and was on the toilet seven times without so much as an acorn until dh finally gave in and is sat with him watching ice age. So no poo sucess yet but weeing has been good today and no misses so far.

Thinking about possibly attempting dry at night at the same time. What do you think cod?

looneytune · 10/04/2006 15:17

HellyBelly again - just changed my name Wink

I'm having a very messy day today and it's really bothering me but probably because I am looking after another toddler and baby so in constant demand for one thing or other.

Ds has finally done a poo - the HUGEST I've ever seen!!!! He held it in as long as he could then (by choice) did it in his pants - what a mess!!! After chatting for a while, I finally found out why he wouldn't go to the potty (as this was not an accident!). He said his reason was he was worried about getting poo all over the carpet - I have told him not to worry about that as it would just go in the potty but he obviously thinks his bum hangs outside the potty!!!

Going to start seperate thread about this as worried about him holding onto poos but please let me know if you have any experience of this! Is it normal?

Also, feel really bad as every time ds wees himself, the wee goes down his leg and reacts with his skin immediately so he screams for cream :(

Not a happy mummy today :(

maddiebean · 10/04/2006 15:34

Hi girls

I'm on day 9 of potty training (dd 2.9 ) so a bit of a late entry on the thread but hope you don't mind if I crash on! Wees seem to be ok, she will go if you put her on before we go out, often says she needs a wee but has 'started' a little bit in her knickers. The big problem is POO, she seems to have no idea to go to the potty when it is happening but is getting really upset when she sees poo on herself - not as I was upset to find two poos on my bedroom carpet this morning (holds hand over mouth to prevent gagging)

I've told her we have special present for her if she does a poo in potty but nothin' doing. Any ideas PLEASE!

Maddie

Flip · 10/04/2006 15:56

I spoke to soon earlier. Knew it would happen! Ds2 took himself off to ds1's bedroom and did a wee in the toy box. I'm sure he found the most distructive place he could. So dh told him off before I got there to talk about it.

Then dh berates him twenty minutes later for not telling him his socks were wet. FFS, stands to reason that if you wee your socks are going to be wet. Obviously only mums use that common sense.

Still no poo but will no doubt be on ds1's bedroom floor later. Still trying to bribe with special present. I think pooing or lack of it (holding it) is fairly normal. Ds1 is seven and still holds onto his for as long as possible. It can be a week to ten days and then dh has to get a stick to beat it with.

Cod I'm in but need clarification of fine detail so can you mark my essay below please. I've taken 3 days off work (starting Thursday) so we will have 7 consecutive days to focus - boss just gone to Barbados for his hols - I must be doing something wrong!

Anyway...starting Thursday I was planning to -

  1. Sit DS (24 months) down and explain that as we're a big boy now we will be wearing pants from today and using the potty of toilet (yes?)
  2. I've got the potty on stand-by and carry it in to each room as we move round house, and millions of pairs of pants with cars on
  3. I'm putting tracky bottoms on him for easy up and downage (yes?)
  4. I've got chocolate buttons on stand-by but I bet he starts to make a fuss about wanting one before we've finished the conversation in point 1!
  5. Then I start to ask him every 15-20 mins if he wants to use the potty (yes?)
  6. When he has an accidents I say 'never mind darling - next time you think you want a poo or peepee see if you can sit on the potty and I'll give you a choc button (yes?)
  7. I don't go anywhere very far away
  8. Lunchtime nap I ask him if he wants to use potty then when he says no I resist using nappy and put him to bed (yes?)
  9. So for a day I'm cleaning up and changing and DS is starting to think that it's a hassle having to get wet and dirty and keep getting changed (yes?)
  10. I keep going every day until he eventually uses potty whereupon I celebrate and reward exstatically
10. I keep going and going accepting that no progress may be being made THEN

Day 8 and DS goes back to nursery....my understanding is they use nappies even during potty training and I can see why but I HAVE to say - would you mind terribly if he just wears pants and I've brought lots of changes of outfits (yes?)

Potty has been around the place for a while now and I reckon the main issue is going to be getting him to sit on it for more than a nano-second. Tried TV and bribes but so far no luck.

Thanks in advance.

Latz · 10/04/2006 16:41

Still nothing in the loo or potty and stroppy mare that she is she wont sit on loo or potty now - just throws a wobbly - going to stick CBeebies on now and bribe her that way.

But I WILL NOT GIVE IN!!!

BingoStingo · 10/04/2006 16:44
  1. Sit DS (24 months) down and explain that as we're a big boy now we will be wearing pants from today and using the potty of toilet (yes?)YES OR LET HIM GO SHOPPING TO CHOOSE OWN PANTS
  2. I've got the potty on stand-by and carry it in to each room as we move round house, and millions of pairs of pants with cars on YES OR LET HIM USE LOO - I PUT THE POTTY RIGHT NEXT TO HIM ALL THE TIME FOR THE FIRST FEW DAYS
  3. I'm putting tracky bottoms on him for easy up and downage (yes?) YES OR "NIKKID" AS DS3 SAID
  4. I've got chocolate buttons on stand-by but I bet he starts to make a fuss about wanting one before we've finished the conversation in point 1! WELL DONT INTORDUCE TILL EH PREFORMS
I MEAN DONT LET HIM KNOW IN ADVANCE THAT THIS WILL BE HIS REWARD
  1. Then I start to ask him every 15-20 mins if he wants to use the potty (yes?)no DONT ASK!! JUST TAKE HIM FOR A LOOK TO SEE WHAT IS IN THELOO - DISTRACT W IHT TOYS OR STORIES ,TKAE HIM LESS IF IT GETS HIS GOAT
  2. When he has an accidents I say 'never mind darling - next time you think you want a poo or peepee see if you can sit on the potty and I'll give you a choc button (yes?) I WOUDLNT BE AS DETAILLED JUST SSAY" WHERE DO WE WEE? ON THE LOO ( GRITTE D TEETH OPTIONAL)
  3. I don't go anywhere very far away YES
  4. Lunchtime nap I ask him if he wants to use potty then when he says no I resist using nappy and put him to bed (yes?) DONT ASK - TAKE - PUT A CARE MAT UNDER HIM
  5. So for a day I'm cleaning up and changing and DS is starting to think that it's a hassle having to get wet and dirty and keep getting changed (yes?) YES 5 ACCIDENTS IS NORMAL
  6. I keep going every day until he eventually uses potty whereupon I celebrate and reward exstatically NO YOU REWARDAND WHOOP EVERY TIME HE GETS ON THE LOO ADN WEES
10. I keep going and going accepting that no progress may be being made THEN

Day 8 and DS goes back to nursery....my understanding is they use nappies even during potty training and I can see why but I HAVE to say - would you mind terribly if he just wears pants and I've brought lots of changes of outfits (yes?)

NO WAY DO YOU EVER LASTE THEM PUT NAPPIES ON my ds regressed a bit at nursery adn so i gently todl the manager that he wasnt being taken often enough - maintina a sens of humour though

Potty has been around the place for a while now and I reckon the main issue is going to be getting him to sit on it for more than a nano-second. Tried TV and bribes but so far no luck.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks...will get myself some rewards for effort...reckon from experiences below that I'll need them.

Heathcliffscathy · 10/04/2006 16:57

am dreading it cod. di dyou use trainer seat on loo or just balancing? i feel down toilet aged 4 and got stuck so bit traumatised re this!

he has been using potty for months but only before bathtie when he is naked (or now when he is in his pants which he parades around in a does a 'pant dance'...it's like being in a toddler gogo bar or something if you'll forgive the dodgy analogy) which is why i think he is totally read and i am just being lazy. planning on staying in for rest of the week and see how goes. do you recommend sticker chart?

Heathcliffscathy · 10/04/2006 16:58

ha, must be your influence my typing seems to have disintegrated!

alittlebitshy · 10/04/2006 17:13

had 2 out of 5 on potty. well, last one, she seemed to start on potty (with knickers still on bless her) then ran to tell dh she was doing a wee. bless her little confused heart. so gave a button for that cos we think she took self to potty then realised we (naugghily) not there!!!

god, this has to go on and on. it;s not just a day. keeps sinking in.

do they EVER ask to go?????

wil read and reply more when dd in bed.
