whn oyt dont take a potty
i always htink parents luggin pottys around look mad

alittlebitshy · 25/04/2006 12:49

i've started taking loo seat and porta potty now- the 2 together are, amazingly, less hassle than normal potty, and easier. hopefully can dowm grade agains oon, lol.

frogs · 25/04/2006 12:53

I take the potty out with us. Dd2 is far too small to reach the loo, and a boys' style standing up wee-wee clearly not an option.

I just pick my son up and put him on a toilet, hes tall but it would be hard for him to get up by himself. The I make him spread his legs wide so hes less likely to fall in but hes good at holding on now.

Had 2 poos in pants before 10am today. Had to bin one pair of pants. He has been to playgroup a few times since this nightmare began and they watch for signs too but today they missed it and he evidently weed then took all trousers and pants off and didn't say anything and carried on playing! Just avoiding the puddle.

alittlebitshy · 25/04/2006 13:06

lol at avoiding puddle.

i'm hoping soon dd will be ok without loo seat when out. i think at the moment the big hole of grown up seat is a bit scary. she is tall, but evidently not tall enough, bless her.

Heathcliffscathy · 25/04/2006 13:10

really pleased. still occasional accident (mostly with dh...hmmmm) but he's really cracked it: wees standing up aims really well, and will do it outside in emergency, and poos on toilet. won't use toddler trainer seat, would rather hold himself up, with a bit of my help. i use bog roll to wipe not kandoos so am not paranoid about blocking toilet. he' not big enough to wipe himself yet, but thats fine with me....and normal???

sure there will be loads more accidents etc but really pleased...did a wee accident on senday but other trhan that nothing for a week...v prouid :)

cod · 25/04/2006 13:10

well done soph

its such a cgreat thign to have done

Heathcliffscathy · 25/04/2006 13:11

:)

alittlebitshy · 25/04/2006 13:14

no poos today so far but am not holding breath for it being in correct place Grin.
is this ok for this stage? ( 2 weeks after started training, a week after she has been completely dry)

sarahlou1uk · 25/04/2006 13:17

Hi everyone. DS tummy is now better and am going to resume potty training tomorrow. I've then got until next Tuesday when he goes back to nursery to get him sorted. We were doing OK until the stomach bug started on Saturday with only 3 accidents and one successful wee and poo down the toilet. Refuses to use a potty though and insists on his padded seat on the toilet. He keeps saying he'll fall down the normal seat! Will keep posting on this thread when we start tomorrow. May need some encouragement!!!!

alex8 · 25/04/2006 13:17

well its way better than I'm doing! we are on 3 weeks tomorrow. Buts thats really not saying much

Passionflower · 25/04/2006 13:32

DD is going on toilet when out and about, agree with cod about lugging stuff about. She says "wobbly, wobbly", but will sit fine if I put my arms around her and support her. Much easier than carrying a potty around. Smile

alittlebitshy · 25/04/2006 17:08

yup, today's poo was in knickers. GRRRRRRR.
about a minute after i asked if she needed a poo (response negative). she walked off and came back saying "mummy i've done a poo".

how on earth do you get them to work out they need to do it? I thought it would click like wees did, but so far it hasn't.

Passionflower · 25/04/2006 17:27

Eh what?? [puzzled emoticon] What on earth happened to my inoccuous post about potty carting?

Never mind, poo in pants here too alittlebitshy Smile. Likewise straight after doing a potty sit. Grrrr

Passionflower · 25/04/2006 17:29

Now that is blooming weird. The words have reappeared!

melsy · 26/04/2006 09:07

well dd is now doing poo poo dance all over the kitchen and conservatory , wont sit long enough on loo,(even with me singing sheep go meep song) , and keeps running back and forth to the loo, wont let me come in and says she wants go aloooone. Fingers crossed everyone , we get it on loo and not floor as nothing on right now.

robin3 · 26/04/2006 14:26

Just thought I'd reassure those in difficulty that DS has regressed. Yes my early smugness having achieved complete success for nearly a week has come unstuck. Nursery is very hit and miss and the past two days at home he hasn't used the potty successfully at all.

Still perservering and putting the past two days down to tiredness as he's been awake during the night for 2/3 hours. Can't explain this either.

HandbagAddiction · 28/04/2006 08:44

Right then - a quick update from me...following a bit of absence due to a 24 hour stay in hospital last week with the consultant's threatening me with early delivery of no 2, etc. etc.. Anyway that's a whole other story....

With respect to Potty training however - we appear - despite my initial misgivings to be making some headway - particularly at nursery where for the past two days we have had no accidents whatsoever on the wee front. They are still putting her in a nappy for lafter lunch sleep and she's obviously timing her poos to perfection as these are always done in this nappy - however, it looks like we might have cracked the weeing! In fact, they went out for a walk yesterday - dd remained nappyless throughout and went over 2.5 hours without needing to go! Naturally I'm delighted and glad that I decided to perservere.

However - we still need to crack it at home...which is still very much hit and miss. I'm faced with a real reluctance from her to use the potty at home and in fact she's still getting quite upset. So.....Cod - font of all knowledge - is this just back to her being manipulative and stubborn given that she's getting there at nursery but is still very much against the whole idea at home????

looneytune · 29/04/2006 08:25

Haven't been around for a bit as up to my neck in other stuff plus we're pretty sorted now. I'd like to thank everyone for their support and advice on here. Thanks to Cod and her no nappies at all boot camp! :)

Just been having a catch up and wanted to mention something about ds when it comes to poos as Alittlebitshy was asking about this.

Ds doesn't have poo accidents any more, hasn't for a while now but we do have a problem when using public toilets.

He now has his wees on big toilet, legs apart so wee doesn't go all over floor Grin and me holding him as he can't hold himself and is scared of falling down. We do however have to use the padded seat when doing poos.

Worked out a while ago that ds doesn't like to actually poo in front of anyone so the way we do it at home is him on padded seat and I leave the bathroom until he shouts me. This works fine but of course we have problems in public toilets because I'm holding him without a padded seat and he just won't do it. The other day we were out at a country park and we'd tried the toilet and he was in a right state, painful tummy etc so I actually gave him permission to poo in his pants and then I'd change him. He hated the mess and said he didn't want to do it again which is good, just need to get him to do poo on toilet without padded seat.

Alittlebitshy - have you tried leaving her on the seat to see if she needs to do a poo? HOw old again? My ds is now 3 so he's able to tell me he has tummy ache/needs a poo etc but maybe your dd can't?

Anyway, just wanted to see if this helped. Keep at it, it will 'click' at some point! :)

PugDog · 29/04/2006 14:53

id tell nursery that you so not want you dd in nappies adn to put a care mat underher when she sleeps
think they are holding her back and sheis using it

PugDog · 29/04/2006 14:54

im so glad oyu all feel you got soemowhere - am alarmed you woudl have givebn up!

looneytune · 30/04/2006 11:42

Finally got ds holding on himself yesterday without padded seat. Did his first poo this way this morning so fingers crossed he won't need to poo in pants again! :)

sarahlou1uk · 08/05/2006 17:15

Think we've cracked it!! DS has now been dry for 7 days - even at nursery! He now tells me when he wants a wee and a poo. Our sticker chart is full and my purse is empty from buying prizes! Next stop - no nappies at night but I think that may be a few weeks off yet.
