  2. do NOT use pull ups for day time naps or anythin short of a 2 hour journey
  3. night training is a wholey seperate issue

Right, this child needs to be sorted. He has had yet another dry nappy this morning so must have a fair amount of bladder control. Problem is he is like a camel and stubborn with it. DD volunteered to take over sitting on potty duty yesterday as she's hoping for sweets if he performs. He's just got up and sat on, nothing. Nothing, not even with singing "I hear Thunder" and pitter pattering raindrops which I thought might get him in the mood.

He's now just wee'd on the floor 5 minutes after sitting on potty. How long does the weeing randomly on the floor bit go on for ? And how long should they sit on for at each session ?

Flip · 11/04/2006 08:12

We had a dry nappy again last night as well but he refused to sit on the potty this morning. Even with bribery of sweets while sat on potty he refused. So I just picked him up and sat him on the potty regardless of his protests and then distracted him with chatter about what was happening on the TV. Very large smelly wee that I'm glad he didn't do on the rug. Lots of praise and cuddles.

I think it's just if you know they need a wee you have to push it and keep them there as long as possible. Although there's been no poo since yesterday and I'm expecting a present this morning.

looneytune · 11/04/2006 08:24

Please help keep me going, I'm really finding this hard work. Was DAY 3 yesterday and we had 7 accidents (one of which included a HUGE poo in pants) and 3 wees on potty.

I can't stand the thought of another day like yesterday (lots of mess, a knackered knee so killing me to bend down and clean, baby mindee crying lots (teething and got a cold), other mindee who's already trained pretending she has tummy ache, needs a wee etc. to take my attention off rewarding ds AND having to be stuck indoors with all this - yesterday I really felt like I was loosing the will to live!!! I really wish I could have taken a week off childminding so I could concentrate on ds as it was much easier at the weekend!

Anyway, DAY 4 today and within 5 mins of coming downstairs in pants, he started weeing as I mentioned the potty so I put him on it. Most of the wee got in there but there was still a fair amount to fill his pants and trousers! He asked for a reward for getting a lot in the potty and I just didn't know what to do so I let him this time but told him from now on, if he starts weeing in pants before making it to the potty then he doesn't get the reward (said nice and calm - it's only the start of the day Wink).

Questions:

Should I be rewarding when there's a fair bit to show in the potty, even if he starts in his pants?

What do you do about a stubborn 3 year old who insists doesn't need to try on potty and then wees straight after? I've tried just putting him on but as I said, he's stubborn (and strong!). I reckon I could have done this when he was a young 2 year old.

I WILL NOT give in but I really need hope that it will all get better soon!

Thanks :)

Well done Flip! :)

Be prepared for a HUGE poo if your ds is anything like mine. He was a 2/3 a day pooer and help it in until his tummy hurt so much then he pushed it out in his pants - never seen anything like it ShockGrin

melsy · 11/04/2006 08:33

yerrr well done flip , good going there with distraction techniques.

Looney tunes Im a rookie on my 2nd day at camp melsy , but wishing you luck for today!!

I knew it , dd did a geat big poo in her sleep and I had to dream change her at 11:00 last night. Still had the same at 6:20 too bummmmer.

cod · 11/04/2006 09:17

ok right one at a time

  1. Kittypickle - is he wearing pants to wee ont he floor? - ime wearing wet clothes i a big disincentive - wait till eh dos one wee ont heloo or potty then go mad with parise - that ll give him the idea at least. th e weeing ont he floor can go on for a couple of days if not 5

Pruni · 11/04/2006 09:21

Ok have had one wee in the potty at will and one valiant attempt, lots of praise for both. Am really encouraged but in between times ds is obsessed witht he idea of chocolate now! "I want chocolate egg" very regular cry. Lots of relatively distressed behaviour...think he's finding it hard tbh

cod · 11/04/2006 09:22

oh fgs relax! it s ontl y day one!
let him have the egg if he has weed
the choc thin only lasts fo a few days
honest!

cod · 11/04/2006 09:23

Pruni · 11/04/2006 09:29

Sah! Yes sah!

I did give him the egg of course.....

but not lots of eggs in between

but keep bullying me please

Heathcliffscathy · 11/04/2006 09:34

ok, have had one wee in potty and one in loo so far. we are watching a lot of cebeebies today. i tried to take him to the loo again just now and he had a benny....'mummy i don't need to, don't make me go, that is NOT NICE'. does this mean i should now forcibly sit him on the potty?

looneytune · 11/04/2006 09:41

Cheers FISHWOMAN!

I'm glad I agreed to reward him now, and will keep rewarding for getting in potty.

Another mindee just turned up so ds jumped out of seat and sat on potty and forced the tinyist wee out I've ever seen Wink He then shouted LOOK LOOK LOOK so mindees dad could see! Grin Rewarded him for having the control and big dance etc Blush.

Just before they arrived I had PUT HIM on potty and he kicked and pushed and there's no way I could keep him on there.

DOES THIS 'MAKING THEM' SIT ON POTTY/TOILET WORK MORE FOR THE YOUNGER ONES? I really promise I'm trying boss but he's just so strong, i can't make him stay on it!

IS IT VITAL I MAKE HIM SIT ON POTTY?

looneytune · 11/04/2006 09:48

BTW, I have been telling him that he just said he didn't need to go. I tell him I'm not cross for him having accidents but I am not happy that he just said he didn't need to go then weed straight after. Is this right?

fuzzlepelts · 11/04/2006 10:01

Morning all, Tally for Day 1 was 4 wee accidents at nursery and 1 wee in potty so she got a sticker. She then had 1 small wee accident at home and then did a poo in the potty (how chuffed was I??? Grin).
Day 2 started well. Huge wet nappy off this morning and straight into knickers. I offered the potty when she got up and again before we went to nursery and she didn't want it. However, as soon as we got to nursery I offered to go to the toilet with her and she sat on loo (while dolly sat on potty next to her) and did huge wee. She was very excited (not half as much as me!) Update later.....

Kittypickle · 11/04/2006 10:19

Still just the one wee this morning (on floor) He's sitting on every half an hour which he wasn't keen to do but has been firmly stuck on. My Mum is on the way later with chocolate buttons for back up.

He has just got his top on at the moment. Do I try again with pants then and not be in a hurry to clean him up when he wets them ?

cod · 11/04/2006 10:39

ok if he wont sit on the potty then leave it

wait till say an hour then take him hoding egg/choc as a lure

if oyu are finding they wont sit on it then let them wet themselves then gently r emond htem where to go

cod · 11/04/2006 10:41

kitty i owuldnt advocate making kidssit in wet clothes(Grin), BUt if they wee in pants after refusing to go to the loo then that feels more obvuious than on some lino!

i thnk wiht ds3 id take him when i went and see who coudl wee for longest

if he reufsed id sy" i weed for three! bet you cant"

( secret glimpse into a fishy toilet habits

well done all of you you are doig so well!

Normsnockers · 11/04/2006 10:42

I would like to get ds (aged 3) out of daytime nappies soon (have had 2 major, 4 days each, failed attempts so far) but he absolutely fills a nappy with wee every night.

Does this mean he hasn't got much bladder control yet and is just not ready ?

Nursery were very keen to get him out of nappies but took me aside for a chat about "perhaps he's just not ready" after the third day of 8-10 changes between 10am and 5pm.

Should I skip the easter start and wait for the summer boot camp ?

What do people think ?

cod · 11/04/2006 10:42
